Taking walk ups at Skippers Canteen today?

We ate there today for lunch. The cm was fantastic and definitely in skippers persona. For people that are not fans, the jokes will go over their head there was a lot of references to the ride. Out of mugs which is upsetting. I would really like to know who is in charge of ordering because clearly they dropped the ball. We loved the atmosphere and the food was a great change from the typical theme park food. We will go back. I think we discover our new favorite restaurant in the mk.

If anyone eats there - can you just buy the empty mug? With no drink in it? I guess you could just go to the bathroom and rinse it out....

Can't wait to hear some food reviews - especially the desserts :)

Oh, ate 3 of 4 desserts. Am on road heading home (8 hr drive). Will post when I get there with pictures.

Not sure that we will get to try it if they don't open ADR's for January 2nd weekend…we have an ADR at The Plaza that I would like to swap out - but don't want to cancel it just yet since from what I read above somewhere they're only taking walk-ups to 6:30 (we typically eat later & have FP's booked around when we usually eat). I only have 1 other day that's a possibility to try for a walk-up - but we'd have to leave another park to come over & not sure if I want to deal with the waiting or just make a reservation in Epcot somewhere. This may have to wait for our June trip….still watching tho for firm word on ADR opening.

When are they getting more mugs?? So disappointed. We are going to try and eat there tomorrow!

This all sounds reminiscent of BOG menu-disappointment.

I was strictly a hot dog kid with restaurants until I hit around 8. Now I'm a try-anything-once foodie. Ditto for hubs and toddler son (phew). While we plan to eat here because the menu looks decent and we like trying new TS places, I would not be upset over skipping it if only the atmosphere/newness was the only draw. The price points are high enough that something on the menu has to appeal. If it was, say, a burger-focused menu with a mile long topping bar (not our thing at all), we would not be interested or upset that we were not interested. No one goes hungry in WDW.

This place does scream for rum cocktails, and the the zero-proof offerings in copperish mugs is just a tease, but it's not as though I'm surprised. No one goes thirsty in WDW either.

Does not look like there will be alcohol. Too bad. Wine would go so well with this menu

You're right! If I had to make a choice in the end where to eat, that may be a deciding factor since I would love a glass of wine with dinner.

Well it's been just over 8 hours since we first saw the menu, and I'd say the responses have been typical, and fall into the following groups

1. Yay! Love the look of the new menu. So glad to see items that aren't the usual boring American dishes.

2. Boo! There's nothing on this menu that my family or I would eat. Why can't they have all the usual boring American dishes that my snowflake will only eat?

3 It's too expensive.

4. Other ( or a combination of 2 of the first 3).

Our family would fall under #1. Did I miss one?

#2 is hysterical! I actually did a spit take on that one!

We are currently waiting to have lunch at the restaurant now. Not that many people here surprisingly. They are not taking reservations for walk up guests at this time and they said online reservations will be at least another few weeks most likely but that could change.

It's not even 11:00 yet. Do they serve breakfast? Who eats lunch at 10:30 in the morning? I'm betting that has something to do with the short wait?!

They officially opened for lunch just now. No breakfast.

apparently, as of yesterday, Skippers Cantina has also dropped participation in Tables in Wonderland, although they were accepting it for the past couple of days. A friend says he confirmed this yesterday. If true, this would make Skippers the only Disney-operated table service restaurant (other than Victoria & Alberts) that does not accept Tables in Wonderland at all.

I could say the same thing about people who have allergies, but you see Disney bending over backwards to accommodate that population. Selective eating due to developmental disorders is just as limiting. Why don't they seem to care as much about that population?

Because allergies are potentially life-threatening. There is nothing life-threatening about refusing to eat a certain dish at a WDW restaurant for any reason. Multiple options exist to just get acceptable food items somewhere else, possibly order off -menu (not going to work everywhere) or bring them in yourself (WDW allows guests to bring in their own food). If one has a child who will eat only burgers, they will not starve before the parent is able to locate a burger in MK.

Also threads that support it too....

ADR's are out for now... looking like they want 30 days to get settled at least.
Table in Wonderland is out - multiple guest at the restaurant have confirmed this, and it's not listed on Disney official Skippers page.
Dining Plan - Not on the official page either, but multiple guest have confirmed they are accepting it.

My take... this is a new restaurant - things aren't set in stone and will be evolving as time goes by.
ADR is more a result of needing to get a feel for the flow of the restaurant, as guest interaction is suppose to be part of the experience. Will it take 50 min to turn a table or 90 min?
TIW is more a result of not wanting locals showing up during the busy season just to try a new restaurant.

oh, and if you want a MUG.... of course you can get one on EBay already.

had a friend who was there yesterday, claimed he "triple checked" with management, and as of yesterday, no TIW. They DID accept it before yesterday. Skipper's is also not listed on the TIW website as a participating restaurant. Could that change, maybe, if they can't pack the place every single day in the future.

They are at this point still accepting the dining plan, don't see that changing.

I used TiW on Monday. It is not unusual for NON-Disney restaurants to still be negotiating for 2016 and not be on website for that so maybe Skipper's management wants to negotiate a better deal as well.

All I know is that at no point on Monday was it crowded, we went by multiple times and looked. Each time they had 2 or more CMs outside with menus trying to get folks in. What happened to the mad rush of everyone who would be at MK this week wanting to eat there? We were there at 6:30 pm, dinner hour, no conflicting shows and it was dead empty. Decor is well done and has much potential ..... just wish they had a plan when they opened. Disney has enough dining experience to be more fine tuned at this point.
