Taking the laptop on the plane- will we have trouble?

We want to take our laptop on the plane with us, so that the boys can play games during the flight ( and we can download our pictures while we're there). Will we have any trouble with airport security? What about the power cable? Should we put in the case or keep it in hand luggage? We don't need it, so would prefer it go in the case, but we are worried this will prove a nightmare for security...
Anyone got any experience of taking a laptop on the plane to the US? We are flying Gatwick - Orlando with Virgin......

you may have to turn it for UK security, i don't know....
in the US you just have to take it out of the case, not turn it on...
but either way , it's not big deal going through security...

as for using it in the US, do you have the proper plug for connecting it to US electric outlets? ....you'll need that...
and of course it needs to be able to be operated on 110 electricty, but i think all laptops can do that....but that plug is a must....

We take our laptop and have had no probs! You will have to swtich on for UK security but not US. As long as it has some charge in the battery you won't need the power cable.


The laptop should have a worldwide power supply so the only thing you will need is a travel adapter to convert the 3 pin plug to 2 pin - just a standard adapter you would use for a hairdryer etc.!

i am taking the laptop on the plane also.

have done this a couple of times and had no problem.

my question is, i'm travelling premium economy for the first time and was wondering if you have a power supply by your seat?

any info much appreciated

Thanks for your answers. we've got an adaptor. We were just worried about the looneys in security in the USA!!!!!!!!!!
