We have a long flight soon with several layovers - I wanted to pack some Crystal Light powder packs, crackers, gum, mints, individually packed cheese, such as string cheese and fruit[like apple slices pre packed] - can I take this stuff on my carry on????

If you want to keep that stuff cool, you can just bring a bag of frozen peas with you and stuff it all in one large baggie!! Much nicer than warm stuff.

As long as it isn't liquid or gel your fine - so your list looks ok.

Things like cream cheese or peanut butter are fine on a sandwich but in a container on their own they need to be 3oz or less and in your 3-1-1 ziplock.

I always pack snacks and sandwiches in a soft side cooler and use frozen grapes as a ice pack. Then we purchase drinks after clearing security so we can have the brands we like and don't have to wait for the FA. I also like to have reclosable bottles!

We generally will stop and pick up stuff for the flight at the terminal (bagels, muffins). Also we take left over snacks on the return flight. The only warning I have is if you have anything with nuts and there is an allergy on the flight, the FA will announce that it can not be openned or eaten while on the flight (that actually happened to us when we picked up some cinnamon nuts at EPCOT before we left--boy it was hard not being able to munch on them as planned). The hardest thing is is when folks stop at McD in the airport and bring french fries onboard. The little kids just don't understand why they don't get them too. (just a warning). Also before we head home, we pick up sandwichs at one of the deli's and take them onboard too.

Just keep in mind other passengers when deciding what to bring onboard with you.
Some people have issues with heavy odors. Perhaps it's best to bring only mild types of food on board...no sardines or salami!!! You don't want those around you to be nauseous due to your lunch!!

Yes, you can take what you have suggested.

So true. I have seen people bring on an 8 piece chicken box (with 4 free biscuits) for a flight once. I'm glad they were in the back of the plane, b/c I could still smell it near the front....
