Taking Down Holiday Decor

I thought the process would begin tomorrow or Sunday but I just went upstairs and DW & DGD have stripped the ornaments and they are boxed and almost ready to go to the garage for a long winter's nap. That means the tree will need to return to its storage bag tomorrow and we'll be done.

I have an extremely hectic work schedule and have to plan around that. That said it’s convenient for me to put the tree up Thanksgiving weekend and take it down by New Years. If I let it stay up after Jan 1, I’ll never get it down.

We do it when we have time. So that means that the tree and ornaments went down today, also the outside lights because it's supposed to rain a lot for the next week or so. I imagine the rest of the decorations will go down in the next day or two simply because I don't have that much else to do.

I woke up (slept in late) and Hubby was taking down our tree(fake tree). He had all the ornaments and decorations put away. He even took down the house lights. I like leaving it up and put decoration away but I wont argue, less work for me :)
Plus I've been feeling like poop trying hard to not get the throat and cold going around but my body is exhausted.

We always have a real tree, so I don't leave it up for too long after Christmas. We took ours down on the 27th this year. I always hate to see Christmas go, but I do like to have the house back to normal before I start back to work after the holidays, so it's nice to have it done now.

We have taken down a lot of it over the course of this week. Trees are still up though, just haven't gotten around to it.

Decorations go up mid to late November, tree goes up Dec 1st. I leave some decorations up till after New Years but the tree comes down on Dec 27/28.

For those with fake trees how do you store it? We went to a fake tree this year. It is a pre lit tree in three pieces (7 or 8 foot tree). It will never get back in the box it came in. Not sure what to do with it - lol

We bought the exact same tree this year, (7 foot, pre-lit, in three pieces) and I'm wondering the same thing! It is currently the only "decoration" left out while we decide what to do. We have the original box but I'm afraid it'll get all smushed in there. We are thinking maybe we should just find a nice spot in the basement and cover it with sheets? I'd love to hear what other people do.

As far as the original post, We are totally undecorated as of yesterday. It's a little early for me, but I will be at work 12 hours/day on 1/1-1/4 so I wouldn't have time next week and I didn't really want that job hanging over my head. I am a little sad to see it go, but glad it's done.

We typically put the tree up over Thanksgiving weekend and take it down at New Years. That's mainly because we have an extra day off work and the kids are around to help. It's not as fun when you have to do it by yourself.
As much as I love Christmas, that's also about the length of my patience for the disruption in my space as well. I love to put the decorations up, and I love to take them back down.

e.

The storage bags pictured above are more roomy than the original box. But if you've got enough space in the basement, leave it together. That's what I do, but I have DH put it in the "bonus room" above the garage. (accessible inside the house at the top of the stairs).

I've heard of some people who leave the decorations on the tree while being stored like that, but I always take my ornaments off and store them separately.

We have a 3 piece tree that 7 or 8 ft, we store it in this. It's still a beast to cram into the bag but once you get it in it zips-up and you can store it upright (ours stays in the garage.) Just do a search for Christmas tree storage bags.

We have one of these, too. I got it at Costco a few years ago and it works great!

We still store our tree in the original box. It has always straightened out nicely. It bulges out a little on the sides but the box holds so far. We store it in the attic.

Now that all the kids have moved out, I am thinking of using one of the closets as a place to put the standing tree and boxes of ornaments.

The 9ft tree we have is a Balsam Hill one that came with a storage bag. However, my husband didn't want to deal with it last year so he just took it apart (it has 3 pieces total) and reassembled it in the basement which is currently unfinished and just barely fit height-wise. Once the basement is finished the ceiling will be just a tad too short. If we do that again this year I want to put something over the tree for dust and whatnot. You may look into a storage bag. There's different kinds and different brands that could be budget friendly.

The 6 1/2 foot tree we were using before we got the 9ft one just had a box and it never did go back into the box perfectly but we could get it back in decently enough.

I took everything down today. I don't take the tree apart. My son takes it to my basement for me and I cover it with a vinyl tablecloth.
