Taking braces off...

If they are so uncomfortable, talk to your ortho and see what he/she can do. They might can move a couple brackets or maybe you using wax creatively might do the trick? :confused3

I had braces for a year as an adult and I know your pain! As far as the picture goes, if it bothers you so much definitely have them photoshopped out. It's nice to live in the year 2005!

Why just a year?

I got mine when I was 26 and had them on until I was 30. They still weren't quite ready to come off, but I'd had enough and requested they just do it then. Married life isn't quite as much fun with braces, if you get my drift. ;) :rotfl2:

Soon I think. Actually my bottom braces are just so close to my gums that I can't get them clean. They bleed a lot. I just wanted a weeks' respite. Oh, and if they happened to be off to have our family Christmas picture taken... :rolleyes1

This has happened to my dd a few times. It's so hard to clean around her braces that her gums got infected, swollen and would bleed alot. It looked as if her braces were pushing against her gumline. Her dentist finally had to cut her gums back. She's had this done 3 times. It's really not that painful, and we were so surprises by how much teeth we could actually see after she had it done! Her dentist says it's a common problem in those who wear braces.

You could just smile with your mouth closed. And I agree that would be a stupid thing to do. That's not to say you're stupid--just a bad idea. Having braces taken off was no picnic. Your teeth would probably even regress (if that's even a viable orthodontic term--but you know what I mean).

A girl a year ahead of me in my graduate program did it. She was getting married and chose to do so. I can't say I blame her. To all the people complaining about getting them off-I don't get it! I remember being SO scared about having them removed, but it was SUCH an easy procedure. I left in no pain at all.

Marseeya-I had mine just a little over a year, if I'd worn my rubberbands properly it would have been less than that. It depends on what needs to be moved and how much resistance your mouth gives in the moving process.

I have had braces about a year and a half now.
I read the subject line and had to see what the story is because....I sort of took off my braces last week! Not the brackets but the little (very little) wire ties (colored elastics that hold the wire on to the bracket), the power chain and pulled the wire out, but not off. LOL.
I was sitting in front of my magnifying mirror looking at my skin, tweezing etc, when I got the bright idea.
Anyway, I couldn't remember how everything was supposed to go back in and my teeth felt wiggly and funny all weekend. I had a regular adjustment appointment today, thank heavens, and no one mentioned that things were not right.
I will NEVER do that again. :teeth:

Yeah, those bands get so gross inbetween visits. I really want them off. I thought I'd be getting them off before our WDW trip. :guilty: Nope.

I got married in my braces too. I wouldn't want to go through that and I don't think it would be good for your teeth anyway.

I guess I must be "stupid", but I did have my braces removed for my wedding back in 1989. I did not want them on for my wedding day. The orthodontist removed the brackets that were visible. All of the bands on the back teeth stayed in place. I didn't want my teeth to move so they were put back on the Monday after our wedding and we went on our honeymoon on Tuesday. I had no pain at all and the removal process was a piece of cake. It didn't hurt either when the brackets were put back on. My orthodontist was a dream and didn't charge me any additional fees.

Thanks hon! She is always so cheerful. :)

OK, I am not going to take them off...so thanks for your time. I will look in to a better toothbrush. I just don't want to LOSE my teeth after spending all this money on them. :teeth:

Thanks!

MY SIL used a waterpik. I just suffered for 2 years :(.

I did have my wires removed for cleanings so that the hygeniest could get in there and clean me up good. I'd return the same day and have it put back on. :teeth:

well i went to the dentist and they said that i need braces and so i got them and i had them on for five years and they hurt really badwhen they titen them and if you wish you could have braces say no you dont want them they hurt for two weeks and after 6 months you can almost eat enything after a year you can eat enything and if you ask the dentist to put you to sleep when they put your braces on they will say no they say you got to handle the pain and they say it dosent hurt but it really does hurt and when you get them of it realy hurts bc your teeth are usto the braces and they get los when they take them off and theres lots of things that you have to do when you get braces you have to floss your teet evryday and you have to brush your teeth when your done a meal cause the food gets stuck in your teeth.and the bad thing is you cant chew gum and cant eat candy so it really suckes to have braces and to me after they took my braces of they said i need them when im twenty :confused3 :teeth:

Alex can I buy a clue please

My friend did it for her daughters wedding. Her daughter worked at the ortho office though so I am sure she was already getting a good discount. I could NEVER do it. I don't know how I survived having braces in the first place.

Well, I don't know who this 'newbie' is, but I find it quite odd that she posted on this thread on the day I had my braces removed. :teeth:

Everything is fine. I have no idea what s/he is saying. I look like this. :teeth:
