Taking a taxi to a grocery store?

Has anyone taken a taxi to a grocery store? There will be two families (4 Adults & 4 kids all under 4 yrs old) traveling to SSR for the first time and we (the wives) want to go to a grocery store when we first arrive. We decided that we will be taking the ME and other Disney transportation during our 10-day stay. We feel that we don't really need a rental car and don't want to use the grocery store delivery services. Is this a practical approach? Any other ideas?

Unless you are going to Goodings which has a lmited selection and high prices (and IMHO is dirty) you're going to spend a lot of cash on a cab to a grocery. Why not rent a car for a day to run your errands?

Use www.wegoshop.com, recommended by many DIS members including me. (Just do a search on the DVC board and you'll find many with experience.) A nice couple runs the Orlando franchise. The cost for their services for one delivery would be much cheaper than a Taxi. The fee is based on the actual cost of your groceries; you can find the info on the website. We used them once this past May and the charge for groceries that totaled over $100 was around $20. It was great to be able to send them a grocery list in advance -- and I kept emailing them with additional items up until the day before we left. They delivered the food to our unit (we were staying at an offsite timeshare) about an hour after we checked in (as I intended) and it was GREAT not having to take the time to go shopping on arrival day with a tired toddler. We would have had to spend a good amount of time at the store because we were stocking up for a week for five people. We plan to use them again for our December trip when we'll be staying at BCV.

I forgot to mention that wegoshop will use any grocery store you want. We requested Publix because we know their prices are reasonable and comparable to the store at home. I know folks have posted that they will also go to SuperWalmart for you. We had them buy everything from groceries to diapers and everything we wanted was delivered. (Some substitutions were made but we had preapproved that.)
