Taking a break from some of the parks until new attractions?

I don't even know how much they really cost cause it's always just a must for me. I just click the add Park hopper option and see the price go up and don't really pay attention haha. But my group is usually only two working adults so I can imagine it's much more difficult in large groups with children. I always feel like I'll be missing out on something if I don't Park hop. I have to get both parks at Universal too.

I also love hoppers because sometimes I just want to go to epcot at the end of an animal kingdom day and go shopping or ride figment. I like that freedom.

I'm the same way, we have always done hoppers and I can't imagine for us any other way would work. I used to crunch the numbers and since we would stay longer than 5 nights, the hopper actually worked out less money. That may have been years ago, though, like the above poster I don't even pay attention for the same reason, all working adults. When my son was little, we did do hoppers as well, but like I said the numbers made sense then.

We just returned from our 7th trip in 6 years. All of our trips have been good, but we found ourselves kind of bored this trip. On several occasions, we were just wandering around asking "what do you want to do?" and ending up going back to the resort. I just think we need a little break, so we are planning a bookend resort only stay and DCL cruise (1st cruise ever) in the middle.

Hopefully, in 2017, some of the new stuff will be complete.
After DCL, WDW seems like seconds to my kids. Have a blast!!!

I agree and God forbid - I love FP+
That does not seem to go over well here.

I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm glad you love FP+.

It doesn't work for us, but when I say that I'm told it's because I hoarded FP's; I only wanted to ride headliners again and again; or I don't like change. None of these apply to me or my family's touring style. I just don't like feeling managed.

But I am reporting on my perceptions. Just as you are reporting on yours. IMO they are both valid.

The one thing we do have in common is a passion about Disney. I think sometimes that's the fundamental thing that is lost in these discussions.

Well beyond in what way? Has someone done something to you off the boards?

If you'd like to discuss this by pm, you're welcome to msg me. I think it's encouraging the behavior to get into details publicly. I'm fairly confident you already know what I'm referring to so not sure why the question, but it's better discussed by pm regardless.

Saying you love FP+ and it works great for your family is one thing. Saying you love FP+ and you can't possibly understand why everyone doesn't LOVE it the way you do is another. The first part is no problem. Some posters use the second part to squash and poo poo any opinion that doesn't agree with theirs.[/QUOTE

I would never do that. We are a unique family and I know that. We are not RD to close people nor do we take breaks, nor do we stay every night for fireworks and late shows, my fam just can't handle that. So the FP+ is perfect for us as we are more like the 10-7pm crowd.

Agreed! Love Disney and it all depends on the person, their family and touring style 100%
I felt FP+ allowed me to be less managed but I get how people don't want to be tied to a park 60 days out by picking FP+ then. Of course that rule flies out the window for us personally because we are first shackled to our ADRs at 180days out LOL.
I just like knowing I have the fams 3 fav rides buckled down and the rest of the day is whatever we want. Now ask me again after the next trip lol.
We had back to back to back FP+ last time if the timing doesn't go that way this next trip, all hell could break loose...LOL

You brought it up so I thought you were ok talking about it.

I actually don't know what you're referring to. Your comment made it sound like something happened "off board" so to speak, which is fairly upsetting.

Yeah - there's an awful lot of blame-assigning on both sides of that argument. It seems difficult for people to accept that not all people feel the same way about things.

No, sorry to upset set you. I will say it was not off the boards- at least as far as it concerns me and I can only speak for myself.

I could see that. I think if it was my husband and I traveling I would more inclined to buy them. Because the increased cost wouldn't hurt as much and because we would be more likely to use them (even just to go to Epcot to eat dinner, etc)

We always did hoppers til the last trip. I couldn't imagine not doing them all those years. And that was as off-sisters. But the difference for us now to add them is $450+! We'd only gain maybe a few extra EMH as we have onsite reservations this time. We just can't justify the expense anymore. Thats two TS meals.

Ouch! Just looking at the prices now, so it would add $256 dollars for us. About a 20% increase in ticket costs. That's quite a chunk of change.

The only time we ever got enough use out of them in my opinion anyway was when we stayed at Beach Club. We used them every day to go to Epcot for something whether a meal, see Illuminations, just stroll around. It was nice to have them there.

I don't get to go very often and have only been twice in my life. This trip will be a first for my BIL and we will not be skipping any parks. I can deal with construction, I'm just happy to be there. It was a mess when DCA was under construction and I was an AP holder.

Thank you for pointing that out. It sadly has become the reality on this board. Doesn't stop me, though. :)

Oh come on! :teeth::teeth::teeth: People say negative things all the time here. People give less than positive feed back about trips. There are countless I hate fast pass or whatever threads that are pages long and it's been like that for a couple years now. And lot's of people on those threads are agreeing with the dissatisfied sentiments. ( and justly so if their trips are no longer what they want).

But please - let's hold off on the "oh I'm so persecuted if I don't like something Disney does" attitude - maybe a couple of posters in particular may say something, but the majority won't. It used to be like that here, but not anymore. I can remember when Universal would never be mentioned!:teeth: Now it's not only mentioned, people discuss, plan and give great advice on going there.

(and I'll say the same goes for anyone who thinks they can't post something positive - sure you can and many people will agree with you)

Getting back to the OP question, I'm not sure I could go to WDW and not go to all 4 parks. That being said, while all the construction is going on, my plans may be different. This year in January I did a mostly non WDW trip with a 1 day whirlwind tour of all 4 park using a day off an old no expiration ticket I have. While it was a blast, I'll admit I'd have liked more WDW time.

For my next trip, I'm considering going out to California and Disneyland again. My first trip out to Disneyland was in 2011 and I had a great time. Since then, Carsland has opened, World of Color has been revised, construction for the most part is done at DCA (when I went, Buena Vista Ave was still torn up from DCA's rebranding), and I might get a chance to finally ride their Haunted Mansion (It was closed for the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay when I was there).

If my next trip takes my back to Florida before most of the construction in complete, a lot of it depends on Disney what I do. I'm a DVC member and if the offer a 4 day/1 park per day ticket again at a great price when I'm going I'll probably jump on that. If not, I may figure a longer trip and split some days between the parks under construction and Universal. Maybe spending a couple of days onsite for a full day each at MK and EPCOT. Then a Morning-Early Afternoon at AK before moving over to Universal for the evening to stay onsite there. Then spend a whole day and a couple more half days at Universal combined with evenings at DHS and another evening at MK.

Adds a chunk for us as well. I keep wanting to do hoppers to add something different to the next trip, but I can only see 2 days (out of 6 or 7) where we would hop, and it's just not worth it for that (but I'm still thinking about it ;))

And yes, when we stayed at BC, it was amazing to stroll into Epcot for dinner every night. If we were staying there for the next trip, I would for sure do hoppers - even at a steep increase in cost.

When we have considered hopping just a couple times, we left off the hopper option with the intention of adding it at the gate if we decided to go for it. Each time we've been too tired to hop anyway and passed on it.

And it's harder to wait now because it messes with the advanced planning for FPs and park days and all that.

That's something I dislike about fast pass- you can't park hop with it. So you still can only plan your fast passes for one park per day, so it doesn't really matter in that aspect if you wait to buy your hopper. :) (unless that changed?)

Actually, for us, quite the opposite is true. It's actually enabled us to hop and still have headliners to ride in our afternoon park.

Mornings are relatively easy to tour with no fp+'s. We schedule our fp's for the evenings or afternoons when it's more crowded. This doesn't work for everyone, but I'm reading more and more people who are using this method.
