For any of you that haven't heard AMC Entertainment and the Autism Society of America have joined together to present "Sensory-Friendly" showings of movies. Today, Saturday 11/21, was Planet 51, December 12 is Princess and the Frog and January 9 is Alvin and the Chipmunks 2. They charge the regular admission price but I believe all of theatres are morning showings and the price is from $4 to $6 depending on where you live. For us it was $5 which is the usual before noon price. If you get on ASA's webiste they have a link to participating theatres. I took DS today and it was great. We took him to see Cars when he was 3 and haven't been back to a theatre with him since. They don't turn the lights all the way down, and they don't turn the sound all the way up. If your kids talks, squeals or runs around, no one cares. You are also welcome to bring in your own GF/CF snacks. We don't do GF/CF but we do watch food dyes so we brought cheerios. We will be in Disney when Princess and the Frog is being shown and the Theatre at Downtown Disney is a participant.

Just thought I put this out there for anyone that was interested and may not have heard about it.

Thanks so much for posting this!! I looked it up and there is a theatre near enough to us that we are planning on going to the January showing. We will be driving to DisneyWorld on the date of the December showing. My daughter is 5 and we have never been to the movies but I wouldn't mind going to this one and not have to worry if we are bothering anyone!! Thanks again!!

That's great! Never heard of that but am sooooooooooooo happy! Maybe now we can start going to the movies again!! Thanks so much for posting this information!

Just wanted to put out another plug for this program. All four of us went to see Alvin and the Chpmunks - The Squeakal Today. It's the first time we've gone to the movies as a family since DS was 3. There was a bigger crowd then when we went in November. Kids were wandering, kids were talking and no one cared.

If you have an AMC theatre in your area check out next month's movie "The Tooth Fairy" on February 6th. All movies are shown 10am local time. The cost is $4 to $6 depending on your theatre. Our theatre charges $5 for all movies starting before noon.

That's wonderful - thanks so much for posting the info! :goodvibes

Wow! I can't believe a theater chain actually understands this issue and is accommodating.

I know so many adults that would probably venture back into movie theaters but stay away because of the loud volume. Why or why does movies and television shows have to be so loud and have so much background noise?

I know I am not the only one that would love to see the volume reduced on a permanent basis and I do not have any disorders - just don't like the noise!
