Can you? Just curious. DH really wants to go on this. It is a source of pride to me that I have never been on it. Seems like a time waster, but if I can double duty by taking my lunch, then I might consider it.

I could be wrong, but I don't think you can take food or drink onboard. They would have to clean up the boat every time it docked. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

i'd also be pretty sure not. there's a quasi-famous story about Walt once allowing drinks on the Mark Twain during a party and how people kept throwing away their trash into the river.

Thanks for the responses y'all! Maybe I can just get over it and actaully relax and enjoy the ride!

They made us finish our funnel cake before they would let us on...so my answer would be ..NO

I don't know about the lunch idea but on my first solo trip (may of last year) I finally went on the boat. Some neat photo opportunities. I enjoyed myself.

Give it a try. You get to see a totally different view of BTMRR, the indian village and HM.

I wouldn't do it if I only had one day at MK but if you have time enough to take some breaks, take one on the riverboat.

Since you have never done it,I don't think you will be bored. As has been said, you get different views of the Park(you can wave to Guests in Frontierland and Tom Sawyer Island)and there is a "narration" that is played during your trip. One of the most "magical" Magic Kingdom experiences I have had happened on the Riverboat. As we passed by Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, the Walt Disney World Railroad was also passing by.The WDWRR "blew" the first 5 notes of "Shave and a Hair Cut,Two Bits" and the Riverboat responded by blowing the final 2 notes on the boat's whistle. It was really great.:)

We did it finally after a lifetime of skipping it--- it was right there at dock, not crowded--- I left ds (12+yr) wander from front to back. I was able to get some different photo perspectives.... and I have a personal fondness for Mark Twain (who born in CT btw and my dd shares his b day 11-30).....

Takes a relatively long time to get going and do the ride, but we had lunches in backpacks and everyone ate on the boat. Rather nice way to do lunch. I don't recall any CM's even being on any of the levels (other than driving) to supervise guest activities while underway.

There are trash cans on the boat, and we've had a snack (banana and peanut butter from the backpack). However, I think that it would be difficult to eat a real lunch there. There are not many benches, and no tables at all. The ferry to the TTC would be a better lunch spot, for reference.
