Ok, so here's a situation for you to ponder and offer your opinions. I love my job and really enjoy what I do. I also like the challenges that pop up on a seemingly weekly basis. And the good that the organization does for the community is such a great bonus. Here's the thing.
I got a call from one of my contacts that I'd been working at from XYZ financial company. They have a great community services/affairs department and work with agencies like ours all the time. I presented a workshop with her in the past, plus gave a presentation onsite at her company. Developed a great working relationship.
Now, she's leaving the company and suggested I send my resume to their company to replace her. On a whim, I did so, thinking that they'd never call me because I don't have ALL the requirements they're looking for. Lo and behold, Joe called me from home and told me that they left me a message to call them back. I've since done so, leaving a voice mail message.
My conflict is that I know if I were to leave, I'd be leaving the company in the lurch big time. There are so many big probjects coming down the pike in the weeks and months ahead and they don't have anyone internally who would want to handle them (lots of nights and weekends).
I know this is really putting the cart before the horse but if they XYZ dangled lots of money in my face, I'd probably snatch it up.
Why would I be looking you ask? I'm not really. Like I said, I love my job. But the one big problem I have is the complete and utter lack of respect the higher ups have for the volunteers. It's like pulling teeth to get them to acknowledge them, let alone say thank you. It's to the put of absolute insulting behavior.
Their only interest is in our development depart, i.e. the money people. There have been a couple of people who were hired well after me that loudly complained that they needed a raise and a promotion. And they got it!
If you bring in money, you get the notice. You bring in volunteers to do the grunt work, you get a brief smile and a pat on the head. Insulting I tell you.
But I love the company that notwithstanding. But I want a raise and a better position. Which I know they didn't submit for the new FY04 budget.
What would you do?
