Anyone else notice that RRBB, ohanafamily, and the dragons are avoiding our questions re: their big announcement/secret?

Hmmm?

Hey guys! We're not going away! What's the big secret???

And Barb, why wasn't I in on that part of the email?? I got some forwards with a subject line having to do with a secret but couldn't figure out what that was referring to....was thinking....what's so secret about tickets?!? :confused3

I never said I had a big announcement/secret. I'm just trying to get all caught up on all your chattiness from the last week. Boy am I in trouble if I don't get through all your posts in the next couple of days since I'm leaving town again on Friday.

Have I ever mentioned how much I love staying in a 1-bedroom villa when we go to WDW? ::yes:: We came home and I have NO laundry to do. Do you hear me, I got all the wash done before packing to come back home. :cheer2:

Kadaten, I'm sorry, there were so many replies going back and forth that the email got really long, so I just deleted it when I changed the subject to tickets. You really didn't miss much. :teeth: Next time we'll be sure to include you in all our gossip. ::yes:: ;)

I've got some pictures for you guys. This one is really bad. My in-laws would kill me if they knew I was posting it. As you can see, we are all in our camping finest. Dig the sneakers? The sun was setting, so we went over to someone else's property and took this picture. It was really windy too.

(Edited to remove picture, because I was told that it looks like I am missing some teeth in that picture. Okay, it was pretty bad, but I didn't realize it was THAT bad...:teeth: )

I'm amazed people guessed me so easily! My natural hair colour now is actually dark brown but I have it died blonde as I think it looks better like it did when I was younger!

I agree with you RRBB I love the villas too, I got my washing done too before we came home on our last trip.

I can't remember what I put down for the swap, but I think I thought RRBB was ohanafamily too!!

Here ya go. I thought I'd throw this one in for RICK. ;) You know, when I took this pic, I told Rob to tilt his head forward so that it wouldn't look like he has a double chin. Now why wouldn't he do the same for me? No fair, his pics come out great, mine look like Jabba the Hut. (or maybe he is just aging more gracefully.)

Welcome back ohanafamily & RRBB!!!!!!!!!!!:teeth: :wave2: :wave2:

I'm blasting "This Love" by Maroon 5 on the computer!!!:teeth: Now "Echo" by Trapt!!! Next is "Kryptonite" by 3 Doors Down!!:teeth:

Practice was fun today!!!:teeth: At the end of practice every day, we each shoot a free throw. If we make it, we don't have to run, but if we miss, we have to run a sprint. {which really isn't all that bad, but I enjoy the satisfaction of ringing it} Well, Heather, Ashley, Jala, Brandie, and I missed it. So he let us go double or nothing. We all chose to.....and we all missed it:rolleyes: :teeth: !! Well, we had 2 sprints. We lined up, and obviously ran really hard. He said that we put forth an excellent effort, so we only had to run one!!!:teeth:

Tomorrow we play the boys:rolleyes: I'll be guarding Chris:rolleyes: I'd rather guard someone I get along with.::yes:: But oh well. We play the boys tomorrow, Thursday, Friday, and Wednesday? and Friday of next week:rolleyes: 4 periods each game, so it's like it's for real. I'm dreading it::yes::

what a handsome devil. He kind of looks like Alec Baldwin. Don't you think??

One more...at least until the pics I took on the Olympus get developed and e-mailed to me...this is the beach after the winds finally calmed down. That's the boys in the 48 degree water and Nancy's oldest daughter (who has Downs) on the beach. That's one of SIL's friends in the kayak.

That's funny you say that. My best friend's 8 year old was watching a movie with Alec in it and said to her "He looks just like Uncle Rob". It's those evil eyes. The whole family has them. ;)

Oh, speaking of handsome guys. My 8 year old niece Abbie asked her mother if cousins could get married. She said "NO! Why?" And Abbie said "because Eric is so handsome." Of course I wouldn't dare tell Eric that. My kids are too full of themselves. They went to the arcade, and with all the tickets they earned, they got themselves the most obnoxious fake gold necklaces with a four inch dollar sign attached. You know--a little bling-bling. OMG! They are so ugly.

Sorry, a little kid bragging there. I'm even making myself nauscious.

Ok, so here's a situation for you to ponder and offer your opinions. I love my job and really enjoy what I do. I also like the challenges that pop up on a seemingly weekly basis. And the good that the organization does for the community is such a great bonus. Here's the thing.

I got a call from one of my contacts that I'd been working at from XYZ financial company. They have a great community services/affairs department and work with agencies like ours all the time. I presented a workshop with her in the past, plus gave a presentation onsite at her company. Developed a great working relationship.

Now, she's leaving the company and suggested I send my resume to their company to replace her. On a whim, I did so, thinking that they'd never call me because I don't have ALL the requirements they're looking for. Lo and behold, Joe called me from home and told me that they left me a message to call them back. I've since done so, leaving a voice mail message.

My conflict is that I know if I were to leave, I'd be leaving the company in the lurch big time. There are so many big probjects coming down the pike in the weeks and months ahead and they don't have anyone internally who would want to handle them (lots of nights and weekends).

I know this is really putting the cart before the horse but if they XYZ dangled lots of money in my face, I'd probably snatch it up.

Why would I be looking you ask? I'm not really. Like I said, I love my job. But the one big problem I have is the complete and utter lack of respect the higher ups have for the volunteers. It's like pulling teeth to get them to acknowledge them, let alone say thank you. It's to the put of absolute insulting behavior.

Their only interest is in our development depart, i.e. the money people. There have been a couple of people who were hired well after me that loudly complained that they needed a raise and a promotion. And they got it!

If you bring in money, you get the notice. You bring in volunteers to do the grunt work, you get a brief smile and a pat on the head. Insulting I tell you.

But I love the company that notwithstanding. But I want a raise and a better position. Which I know they didn't submit for the new FY04 budget.

What would you do?

First of all, I'd say go and talk to (interview with?) XYZ, because you don't want to have any regrets. Who knows, it might be something you have absolutely no interest in, and then you won't always wonder.

It stinks that you are not given the respect and pat on the back that you so deserve. I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that they aren't throwing money at you either. Does the lack of respect overpower your love for the job?

Don't you wish!!! hehehe

Wait Rick, I just thought of something!

Go after the new job with the provision that you can take off October 9th through the 13th. :teeth: ;)

Seriously, this is your life and you need to think about your future before you think about whether you'd be leaving them shorthanded.

Well, now, I don't know...how do your feet look Rick?
:rotfl:

I'M JUST KIDDING FOLKS!!!!

Well, interesting you should mention that. There have been a number of occasions where I leave the office filled with nothing but anger and disgust at particular individuals. ALL of whom are the higher level executive team members. I go to a middle management person or lower and give them a gentle reminder to say hello, and they fall all over themselves saying "thanks" to the volunteers.

I do the same with the e-team members (especially the individual who is the highest on the food chain) and they give me a weak smile and say "oh, just say 'thanks' for me, i'm kind of busy." Point of fact is I threw a HUGE volunteer appreciation party last year and only two the eight e-team members came to show their gratitude. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.

Finally, those same e-team members who are just too busy have never come in early or worked late or over weekends in the entire time I've been here. Nor do they actually go to events or anything else unless it's a definite that it'd get the organization some $$.

You know all those times I've been on TV, in the paper and on radio? That's actually our high muckety muck's responsibility. She's supposed to do all the media for obvious reasons. But more often than not, it's me. Not anyone else on the e-team. And I'm not on the e-team myself!!!

Our p.r. people, when I asked, told me that they frankly don't trust anyone else to do it.

what the???

But, all this notwithstanding, I still love my job, love our volunteers, and love our mission. And my coworkers are great. It's just the higher ups that truly disgust me.

Well, I thought RRBB was ohanafamily, too. Congrats llebrekniT!!! Maybe only people whose screennames begin with an "L" win these Island pools.

Bichon Barb - your DH is a hottie! Was he a blond in his younger years? My DS was a blond, but now he's more light brown.

Rick - That's the tough part of being in the non-profit world. It feels a whole lot worse to "leave them in the lurch" than if they are a capitalistic entity with tons of resources. First question, can you be happy not working in non-profit? If the answer is yes, then my next question is, do you need to move, or do you stay put in that dangerous city? Third, would your current company hesitate to leave you in the lurch, say, if they had a budget crunch and needed to save some $$ by cutting staff? I suspect they wouldn't. Can your friend tell you what kind of notice you'll be able to give if you were to be offered the new job? If you have enough time to train a new person, then be on call for questions for a while, seems like it's fair for you to go for more responsibility, more $$, and a chance for advancement, IMHO.

I'm going to post a picture of my kids ... don't faint now. It's the one we sent out last Christmas in our cards. I haven't seen DS since late March, and he had lost weight since the picture was taken in November. I've been told that he's lookin' even thinner than when I was there. Can't wait to see for myself when we go down at the end of June. Hey, the preview makes DS's eyes look weird and everyone's kinda blurry. Why is it distorting the picture? I'm using the ohanafamily formula for picture revision. Oh, well, you'll get the idea of what they look like!

iluvtink, if I were working for a normal, for profit company, I honestly wouldn't hesitate to leave for more money or a promotion. But because this organization (and all non-profits seemingly) foster and cultivate such a familial culture, it'd be tough to leave behind.

In any case, I know that I'm really counting my chickens. Who's to say anything would come of this anyway? I only just sent them my resume and letter on Friday at around 4pm and they called me this afternoon.
