Good morning everyone!

Yes, SadieDog's right, I've been spending less time on the computer due to my dad being here. He leaves tonight, but then I'm back to work tomorrow! Although I may have more time in the evenings (when I'm usually on anyway).

Life is not good here, my friends, life is not good. I try to start each day by offering up a prayer of thanks that my family is whole and healthy. THAT is huge. Money, on the other hand, is going down the toilet. DH seems to be losing hours at record speed. Thankfully I have all the hours I want at my old job, but that will last until Christmas. His situation is much longer term than that. I am putting out fires with the bills and wondering how I'm going to make the mortgage payment next month. The kids will be returning to school because of DH and I having to work all we can. We all love having them home, but there's no point in them being home if there's no house, kwim?! I know y'all can't relate to that aspect of my life but I'm really struggling with that one. I'm not so worried about DS8 and DS6 at the elementary school, but our middle school is awful....:headache:

Well, that's enough of the sob-fest. Just wanted to clue you in on where I've been and what's going on! The only real bright spot to the whole mess, is we may end up in Florida sooner than later!!!! Flat broke, but in Florida! :rotfl:

.

LegoMom, I'm sorry for the financial worry. Believe me, I am right there with you. I know how difficult it is and the stress that it causes. There are plenty of people that say they understand, but they really don't. They may comment of their need to cut back on extras, but that is sure not the same as worrying about paying your mortgage and feeding your family during the same week. Sometimes when it's time to pay the mortgage, I joke with my husband and say something like "well we have enough to pay the mortgage as long as we don't eat this week, you didn't need to eat this week did you?" :lmao:

There is no such thing as going out to eat, going to the movies, renting a movie or ordering pizza in this house. My big extra is having basic cable and internet and sometimes I feel guilty about that. My daughters cell phone contract runs out in Dec and unless she finds a job, we can't renew it. Another major worry is trying not to be cold this winter. So take comfort in the fact that I do understand and you are not alone in your struggles. Hope things get easier for you soon.

I just remembered I have a $20 gift card in my bedroom for The 99. :woohoo: My husband and I can go out to lunch sometime. :woohoo:

You'll fit right in with the majority of us! If it wasn't for the generosity of my in-law's, we'd be in a real mess. That's one reason I'm trying so hard to go back to work. DH and I admittedly are a bit financially irresponsible. :rolleyes1 We have champagne and caviar dreams on a beer and cheese whiz budget. But my in-law's, they have a champagne and caviar budget and are generous enough to help us out with what they think is necessary. (Sadly, they don't think Disney is necessary but a golf club membership is.) :confused3

:rotfl2: That's a good way to put it. Oh and we could all use a set of those in-laws. :thumbsup2

Depends on the attitude that comes with them!! My in-laws aren't rich, but they're pretty well off. DH and I have stopped going to them for help (heck, we try to not even let on when things get bad) because they hold it over your head FOREVER and watch every penny you spend and then make no bones about speaking their mind when they think you shouldn't have bought something....:headache: What a headache!

Also, I would like to know, is there such a thing as beer and Cheez-whiz dreams on a hard-tack and old rum budget?!

So you know my in-laws? :rolleyes1 Yet another reason I want to go back to work. The money they give us is mostly from an inheritance from DH's brother. But since he didn't will it to us directly, they control it.

I might like that old rum, just not the hard-tacks.

Dear Laptop,
I knew you well
with your silver color
and your sign that said Dell.
You helped me do my work
and a lot a bit of play.
I spent hours on you,
sometimes all day.
Sadly, it wasn't enough
for me to say ouch,
when I saw you fall
so quickly off my couch.
You beeped and you chirped,
fighting for your life.
But alas, you are no more
for this computer addicted wife.

Hi Tink!!

We knew you well.
Kind of.

:rotfl2: Oh I'm so sorry but that is the funniest sad thing I've ever read!!! :rotfl2:

I just figured out that we can list our house next spring!!!!!!!!!!! Nobody's going to make a tidy profit off it but at the current average sale price for a comparable house around here, we can list and take an offer that will pay all the associated expenses and give us money to move AND have plenty "left over!" WOO - HOO!!!

Florida here I come!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good news for you!

I tried to see if my laptop would heal itself and it didn't. DH said I ruin every Christmas because I always manage to find a reason to get my big present early. He was going to get me a new laptop. I use it for my freelance and will still use it even if I don't go back part-time too. But until then, I have to use our desktop that we use mainly for email, finances, graphics, and editing video. I do my writing on the laptop because I have high hopes one day that I will be able to sit in a Starbucks and write scripts on it. Plus, I can carry it on the job with me.

I'm right there with you. I'm a single mom and I work 32.5 hours a week, 182 days a year, make less than $11.00. And, I have no health insurance. I have no flipping clue how I do this.

The transmission had totally gone on my car. It was a $3500.00 dollar repair. Thank God for extended warranties. I paid nothing. The powers that be look after idiots and kids. I got a kid and I'm an idiot.

Good Morning.

PaMom, I feel for you. I hope some good luck is heading your way. I'm glad your car was under warranty. Our transmission went last year and we had to charge $3,000 to pay for it. I'm sorry about your lack of health insurance and I hope your state is able to help you out. You deserve it.

When my mother divorced my father, she still had 3 kids under 18. She worked cleaning houses part time and my father didn't pay any child support for as long as he could get away with it. He worked under the table for a while to make his income appear very low and keep the child support as low as possible so when she did receive child support, it was not nearly enough. This experience really makes me feel for people who have to struggle on a daily basis to make ends meet. My heart goes out to you and I wish you easier days ahead.

Morning all! I am heading out to a local consignment shop to take in last year's "winter" clothes and get some new ones for this year. Since our cold weather clothes get the least amount of wear, you can usually find some really good stuff. Unfortunately, my oldest outgrew the shop we go to. I need to find another one that sells tweens and teens clothes.

Oh Mean Queen - what a funny little poem about your laptop. Very creative and brought a smile to my face. Last month hubby broke our laptop on purpose. Yes - on purpose. He was upset about the Cubs losing a game and smashed the LCD screen. We have accidental protection so he sent it in for repair saying he dropped it. Yeah - he dropped his fist on it. Anyway ... they kept it for about 3.5 weeks and I was miserable. I have a bad habit of surfing the net in the most comfortable places, bed, recliner, etc. I rarely use the desktop - just when I'm paying bills or when hubby is using the laptop and I have to. So for 3.5 weeks I had to sit at a desk to use the computer. The horror! ;)

Hope you can find a store with larger sizes. That's my kind of shopping. :thumbsup2

Sorry about your laptop, but the poem was great.

I'm the same way! I like to sit in the comfort of my bed and surf the web, chat on the DIS, or play Pirates online. Now I have to sit in the office/playroom which isn't as comfortable. DH looked at the laptops I'd want and said they were all too expensive. :headache: I think that's just cause his dream of a new flatscreen TV for the living room is out if I get my laptop. But I need this for work. I'm just sad that I lost a lot of pictures I hadn't uploaded yet to Shutterfly and all my iTunes music. :sad1:

Ok, I guess the consignment shops see the value in the rarity of winter clothes here. Most of the stuff was just about a dollar less than what I could buy brand new at Target. The owner wasn't there for new trades, so I just used up my existing credit. I'm not paying those prices for used clothes. But I'll happily trade for them.
