Hello, I'm out from my hiding. :) How is everyone? I've been incredibly busy...as usual! Mean Queen, looks like you had a great day trip! We're trying to find a date next month to go to Epcot and try out the new SE and walk around WS. Well, we always say we're going to really walk around WS, but we never really do, if you know what I mean. It's such a cool place!

I'm still here!!!! :scared1:

I also just discovered how we're gonna pay for 90% of our trip!

In other news, we had a Short-earred Owl in our yard this afternoon, the 2nd time in about a week! It's so cool, and with the binoculars we could see it really well. Kids had a blast watching it.

So DeterminedOne, since it appears we are the last ones standing, what are you up to this weekend? :confused3

I think I will finally get my hair cut. The last time I did was in June at the Grand Floridian for my vow renewal. I loved it so much I've been worried another hair dresser would not be able to repeat it. So instead, I've let it grow and stuck it in a pony tail. Yeah, that looks great.

I'm working Saturday. <---- me pretending to be happy.

The new SE was wonderful. This was our second time trying it out. I really wish we had lots of time after to check out the play area. It was lots of fun.

LEGOMOM - Glad to see you still hanging around. Just be careful with that tax refund. The last time the government did that, it really was just an early "tax refund" yet if you aren't due a refund you just owe that back and whatever else you owed. Since my work is all freelance, that money will just go straight back to the government.

We had Italian tonight too, but we went out to eat with friends. I'm just getting in a little Dis time before heading to bed.

Morning everybody! I hope Smiley Bug, Master Gracy, Metro West and others can join us real soon. :flower3:

For those of you still here I need advice and support about work. You helped me a lot last October when I was deciding to take the job I have now, so I know you will help me with this one. I'll warn you, it's a long story.

Just a few months after I started working for this company I was promoted to a supervisory position. It upset a lot of folks in the department who felt I am inexperienced and undeserving. My employees, who at the time were all male, do not like me because of the promotion. They worked hard to get the job done, but gave me a hard time whenever and wherever they could. I knew they were trying to get the best of me, never played into their game and constantly reminded them of who's in charge.

Last October, our 3rd shift supervisor was promoted out of the department. His departure was significant as he played an integral role as the department's inventory management guru.

I was surprised and excited when my boss asked if I was interested in the position. After everything I went through with the 2nd shift team of males (who act like boys), I was happy to know that my light still shines and the hard work was noticed - despite the naysayers. I was nervous about working 3rd shift but you helped me and gave me great advice. I knew in my heart (gut) :) that taking the job would be good for my career with the company. It was a lateral move, but came with more responsibility so I was able to negotiate a raise.

Ooh!....I like it! Give people cliff-hanger stories to draw them back into the thread and make them come back for more! :rotfl:

No, seriously. How does it end?!.....what's your big dilemma??!! Tell me!!! :scared:

Well, my Sunday is off to a shining start [sarcasm].... I tossed and turned from around midnight until 2:15 with a stiff neck/headache. Finally got up and took Excedrin (my never-fail cure) and went out to the couch. Was awake until after 4:00.....:headache: (there is caffeine in that stuff but normally it doesn't bother me). Now I wake up at 7:30 to find SNOW coming down. What the - ???? Where did that come from?!! It doesn't look like much but I can't have it interfering today because we have two house showings and need to leave! We would normally be at church during that period but if the weather is too bad we won't go that far.

Meanwhile, my dad and his wife are on their way to Ft. Lauderdale to go on a cruise for a week.... :sad2:

I am so tired of snow. I keep telling myself think spring. Good luck. I hope everything works out with the house showings.

I will post more about the work situation shortly. The battery on the laptop is dying.

I am so tired of snow. I keep telling myself think spring. ....

The way I see it, we're almost out of January. Feb. is short (even with one extra day this year!) and March is the home stretch! :yay: I agree with you, though, I'm DONE with the snow!!

Hmmm, sounds so far like the ol' boys club was rearing it's ugly head about a woman being promoted over them. I'll reserve more comment until you finish the story. Darn laptop batteries!

LEGOMOM3 - Sorry about all the snow. I guess you can consider it another day to spend inside scrapbooking. :confused3

We're shopping for carpet today. Our 2nd bathroom flooded our office so now we have to recarpet that area. Home remodeling is like a never ending chain of events. It started with our bathroom and the plumbing, then added the windows, then our other bathroom flooded so now we have to do that, plus the office that was flooded, and now the lawn that got dug up because of all the plumbing. I'd really love a way to get my kitchen done, but all that other stuff is taking up the money. And since my in-law's are doling out the money, we don't get a choice in any of this. So it's nice, but still a bit annoying to have so much done with no say.

It was October. I had a whole new team of people (men AND women) and an entirely different set of responsibilities. The most critical thing to learn was coordinating and conducting the monthly and end of month inventory. I won't get into it, but it is at times a long and arduous process. :headache:

It was early November and the boss still had not replaced the supervisor on 2nd shift. On top of that, the 1st shift supervisor was going out for maternity leave at the middle of the month. The boss asked if I would cover 1st shift and that we would use move-up supervisors on 2nd and 3rd. I agreed since again, it was an opportunity to learn something new. The 1st shift supervisor is responsible for a team of what we refer to as "floor" people as well as a team of office folks. Whereas 2nd and 3rd shift supervisors are responsible for floor folks only.

The supervisor on 1st has been around a long time. She was there back when the department was small, before there was a 2nd and 3rd shift supervisor. Because she works during the day and is responsible for the office folks, she is allowed to make many of the decisions about how the office is ran. (This causes a slight level of irritation to the 2nd and 3rd shift supervisor when she doesn't make the best decisions, which is often. I'll just leave it at that because I'm digressing. :rolleyes1

The point I was trying to make is I wanted the challenge of 1st shift. It would give me the opportunity to learn the office and floor side, in addition to allowing me to change a lot of what was wrong in the department. The folks in the office were supportive of my bosses decisions to move me and I've been on 1st since mid November.

I swear there's a point to this story. TO BE CONTINUED ...
:)

It's mid November and about time for an inventory. Remember, inventory is normally done on 3rd shift, but since I'm on 1st shift and the only one trained, my boss now tells me I have to get the inventory done on 1st. This is something that was never required of the 1st shift supervisor. In fact, if I understand the story correctly, she pretty much refused to do it which is how it ended up on 3rd. She has wielded a lot of influence over my boss. He listens to whatever she says. That's a whole other story.

But to be fair, I understand why she resisted the inventory. Imagine for example, if Walmart tried to do a complete inventory of their store while the store is open for business. It would be nearly impossible since they would have inventory going out at the same time they were trying to count it. Which is essentially what happens when 1st shift tries to complete an inventory while we are "open for business" so to speak.

One of the first things I recognized when moving to 1st shift was that the 1st shift supervisor was not well liked by other departments. (And here I thought it was just me who doesn't like her.) Okay now, one thing I have learned in the workplace is to have allies in other departments. You never know when you will need them. From the moment I started with the company I began cultivating those relationships. I should mention that I work in shipping and receiving and that our department and facility is in a seperate location from the main facilty. Of course the main facility is where all the important people are, which is another reason why I knew it was important to build good relationships there. Building those relationships helped me to establish a good reputation, which is something that pulled me through when my employees tried to give me a hard time. So anyway, I picked up on the fact that the 1st shift supervisor has a bad reputation and used it to my advantage. Manipulative? Perhaps, but sometimes it's what you have to do to succeed in the workplace. One of her biggest flaws is she is difficult to work with. You ask her to do something and she will take her sweet time getting it done or won't do it at all. Therefore, everything that is asked of me from another department I take care of it right away. They of course think I'm great to work with. :)

Once I had a plan for completing the inventory during business hours I called on my allies at the main facility. I was new to the process, and any mistakes that were made I didn't want them to be because of something I didn't know. They offered me help, suggestions - everything I needed. Since then, I have completed three mid-month inventories and two month end inventories - including YEAR END inventory in which the auditors were there. :scared: Not to worry, they have all been successful. So of course, people are looking at me like WOW - you did it, as a way to cheer me on. But then there are those who still doubt me, talk smack and think it's a fluke that I continue to produce good results. Over the last several weeks, I have heard from numerous employess, supervisors and managers of how they are rallying to keep me on 1st shift. The regular 1st shift supervisor returns from maternity leave on 2/12. Something big transpired within the last couple of days. That is where the drama begins... TO BE CONTINUED!

Are you KIDDING me?!!! You left off there??!......what happened?!!!??

C'mon, D.O., fire up that ol' laptop and let us know!

ETA: Hey, this works!! We all need to come up with suspenseful stories of our own and tell them in little increments with cliff-hanger endings!
