Hi all...

I've had quite an evening. DS11 had a run-in with a neighborhood kid. As a mom I've never felt quite "right" about this kid; maternal instinct or what I don't know, but we've had problems with him on and off for the last year or so. When things are going well I try to let them all play together, because our neighborhood is isolated and you hate to take away the ability to play with the only other kids around. But tonight I've put my foot down and it's all over. I didn't see the incident in question, but I was within ear-shot so I heard enough to piece it all together, and I have no reason to doubt what my son is saying. He's a mischeivous kid and I'm not one of these moms who just automatically sides with her kids, thinking they never do wrong (yeah, right!!!... ). Anyway, my son was on his bike, the chain fell off so he pulled over to fix it, this kid was nearby, came over and pushed my son over and off the bike, pushed him to the ground and started grabbing his neck and hitting him! My son came home absolutely covered in sand and grit and you could see where he'd been grabbed.... Fortunately this kid is smaller and weaker than DS11 so he wasn't really hurt, but he was shaken up. One minute these two are riding bikes and playing together, the next he's getting beaten up. WTH????!!!!!

I just want to say that's it's reeeeally hard to talk to your kid after something like that, and talk calmly to him and try to explain stuff and let him know that getting back at the other kid is not the answer, when you want to walk outside and beat the livin' snot outta the little brat yourself!!!

Sorry for being so long-winded! Wow, between the air-horn-bear-chasing neighbor and the bratty kid, y'all must either think I really live in East Overshoe or that I just can't get along with people....

That is terrible~! My youngest had that problem with a boy and I just had to put my foot down as well. It made it easier on him as he didn't have to be the reason. His mom said... So sometimes it is good to step in and they appreciate it. I told him that he did not have a right to hit someone but that did not mean that he could allow himself to be a victem. He was afraid of getting in trouble for hitting back so he allowed it for weeks until I found out. Such a fine line we make them walk sometimes.

Today is DD's birthday. She is finally 19. I say that because for the last few months I have been refering to her as 19. ​

So, what do girls do on their birthdays? They go shopping of course. And then out to lunch. And probably more shopping. ​

My cat is afraid of a crane fly..... (you know, those things that look like a big mosquito). We just had one on the kitchen cabinets, he went to investigate, was about to touch it with his nose when it took off, and he jumped a MILE!! So funny but so, so sad...!
