DH and I are doing the REAS package when we sail next on May 29th (:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc ) and from reading these posts, it looks as if many are being hit up again w/the products sales pitch.

We KNOW we don't want to buy anything, and DH is hoping we don't receive a lousy massage if we tell them up front we don't want a sales pitch.

I've thought of saying in a nice way ahead of time, 'we don't wish to buy any products today.' I would think that since they still want to receive a decent tip, that they'll do a good job?

What's anyone else's experiences w/this?

We have had an assortment of treatments, on both ships, and never once have we felt the pressure of a sales pitch.
Yes, they quick run through the items they used on you during the massage, tell you they are available. Sometimes we get them...sometimes we say thank you, we don't need anything today.

We really don't need anything now..since I found out..you can purchase all your favorite products from the wonder/magic spa at
timetospa.com.

Works out perfect for us.

Let them sell away during the massage.... At the end, politely decline by saying. Thank you, but I'm not interested... If they persist, tell them you have more spa products at home than they have here- I don't need to add to my collection.

I did have one person once that would not stop, so I ended up saying-"What is about No you don't understand?' That did the trick. Usually they will stop right away as soon as you say no thanks, not interested.

Have fun!

JMHO but I wouldn't want anyone selling away during my massage. I'd want quiet or soft music or the waves crashing in the background but definitely not someone pitching their overpriced products. Having to listen to a sales pitch would ruin the experience for me.

Before the massage, they ususally have you fill out something or ask your questions. IE, injuries, sensitive areas, etc.

This is when I specifically inform them of what I need and how I like a massage.

I say something like, "I really like absolute quiet, I even like the music low."

This time, we are doing the couples package (REAS) and I am a little wary of sharing my quiet massage time with my husband. He is SUCH a chatterbox and likes to strike up conversation with the therapist. I am going to ask him to indulge me and enjoy the peace and quiet.

I let my therapist know how much I have been looking forward to this QUIET time.

Afterwards, if they give me a pitch, (my last trip was very soft sell) I just say, "No Thank you". I do like to know what was used on me, because I may change my mind later.

I suppose you could always write on your form ahead of time, "No product sales please"

I had the spa taster and the hot stone massage last week and no one ever talked during it! At the end they leave the room while you get dressed, then they come back with a glass of water for you and a paper with a bunch of things checked off that they recommend you buy. They asked "would you be interested in anything" I say no and that was it. No heavy pressure and no selling during the treatments.

well I usually just decline at the end but i will say that on the wonder in feb i had fac/body treatment/massage and the girl did not stop talking the whole time asking me questions saying i shuould really try this/ have i herd of that..etc... it really ruined it for me so nexttime i am gonna tell them i really like it quiet.. FYI that is not th enorm usually i have no problem with the spas on cruise lines i think maybe this girl just needed the sell orsomething...

When you walk into the spa you could say
"Spa products! We don't need no stinking spa products"

Opps, I forgot you wanted something subtle and polite;)...sorry.

 Good one jrabbit!

Even though I wouldn't, it's definitely what I FANTASIZE about saying! LOL!

As soon as we wer done with the massage, the CM's left to let us get re-attired. As soon as they come back in the room, you can expect their speil. I just told them that I was not interested as soon as my CM started with the pitch and stated that I was only borrowing this body and would be returning it in about 30 years and that I could not justify the cost. Of course my wife already knew the products she wanted before the pitch, so she was also spared the pain (Not the pain from the bill though). - Mike

I honestly don't mind their "suggestions" - I haven't felt any serious pressure to buy. They also haven't ever tried to sell me on anything during the procedures themselves, I've just had them offer some advice after the fact.

In my experience, it's never been overly pushy. What I have asked them to do is write down the names of what they recommend on the receipt (and the prices) so I can take a look at everything toward the end of the cruise to see what I can't live without. This way, if you are having multiple procedures on various days, you can decide at the end of your cruise if you really "need" any of the products they offer.
The staff have always been very curteous in this regard.

I am in sales, so maybe it doesn't bother me as much as others but it hasn't ever hampered the relaxation provided and a simple "no thank you" has worked ok in the past.

All in all, my experience was really good. I wish I was there now!

We wrote on the bottom of our paper work "Thank you but we are not interested in buying any products" It worked! They didn't say a word about anything! I figured if we wanted to buy something we could come back & not have to deal with ruining that relaxing feeling you get after massage!
