Tackiest thing ever seen at a Disney Buffet

When we first boarded the Disney Wonder for a 4 day cruise last February, we went to the Beach Blanket Cafe (buffet) to eat lunch. The guy in front of us, who had a really bad, flaking skin issue, insisted on touching everything whether he took it or not. He was literally poking his entire finger in the rolls, bread, etc. and just kept going down the buffet, touching/moving... I wouldn't have cared if he'd taken them, but to do that and leave them there was just gross. I made sure to take food from the back of the trays from then on.

When we were at the Crystal Palace last April, a large group were seated right between and in front of us in 2 tables. They were on dessert when we got there and were still there when we left. They had zip locks and were stuffing entire plates full of cookies and fruit into them. They also were loudly talking about getting away with out paying for a 3 year old (saying she was younger) and for paying a child rate for 2 other kids that should have been adult rates. My 7 year old couldn't get why we wouldn't let him take a boat load of cookies for later on. We let him know that it was inappropriate and not allowed.

Ohana isn't a buffet so perhaps they got it from the snack shop across the lobby from Kona?

I saw this at PONDAROSA. I went to sit down and the waitress was cleaning the table for us and it was a big mess allover the floor ect( I have 4 kids and I have seen messes not like this) I said to the waitress wow what a mess and she replied " can you imagine what there house looks like" I have always thought of that and I make sure we clean up in any resteraunt!

tackiest by guest...little kid licking the serving spoons for a little pre dinner taste before putting it on her plate or moving on . her parents were right with her but evidently found it acceptable...main reason i shun buffets

tackiest by cm, asking me if i wanted more fried potatoes from the same pan i just got the fried spider along with my potates at CP...second reason i shun buffets

tackiest non disney...my own mother cramming almond cookies (which she could afford to buy )into her purse at a local chinese buffet but the look on her face when we told her they had security cams. was worth it ( no cameras really but she Bought the cookies next time to take home :rotfl: ) guess honesty skipped a generation hehe

Finally one of the woman left the table and walked off. When she came back a few minutes later, it was with a bowl of cereal, some breakfast pastries and a banana, apparently from the Ohana character buffet. I'm still wondering how the one managed it.

i'm not sure about cereal but i think they sell the other things at the coffee counter right around the corner from Kona( by the mono. entrance)

The tables all had nice baskets on them with the suger packets and Sweet n low packets and they would take all the packets and sometimes the baskets as well.

:rotfl: :rotfl:
That's my great-aunt Alice!!!

Cheers!

This is a non-Disney moment...

Two children (between 7 & 10) were at our local Wal Mart. The older one (a boy) held the Icee lever down while his younger sister stuck her face under it and drank for a minute. They then swapped roles. We all just stood there, dumbfounded, and all the cashier could say was, "It happens all the time."

My mom had told me that while she is in Atlantic City years back, she was at a buffet and a bunch of elderly ladies were stuffing food in there purses that were already plastic lined. My mom couldn't believe it but we both thought it was kind of funny.

This was not at a Disney buffet, but it sure shocked me: I just recently was at a sit-down, nice, expensive restaurant with a friend. Across from us was a young family, kids maybe 5 & 7 or so. Everything was normal until dessert time. The restaurant has a tray of desserts that they bring around to show you so you can see what you want to order. The tray of desserts was sitting on a table caddy corner to us, while the waiter was taking the order of another table. The dad from the young family went over and took a fork full of two of the cakes to 'taste'. Then giggled. He encouraged his kids to do the same & then they did! I could not believe it. The mom just sat there like it was no big deal. Ruined all those pieces of cake/pie and they didnt even order dessert. Really bugged me. :crazy2:

Just subscribing because I want to show this thread to DH in the morning.
OOOPS! It already is morning. Maybe I should get to bed!

Never been to WDW, I have some stories about buffets at DLP:

- Most horrible one was people changing their babies diaper ON the table

- At the breakfasts (buffet, included with you Disney-hotel stay), they arrive equipped with ziplock bags and tupperware boxes. They take enough rolls, yoghurts, butter, cheese, ham, tea/sugar bags, fresh fruits, ... with them at home to survive at least 3 other weeks!

- Cafe Mickey character breakfast: they tried to get away taking large pieces of cake, pie, salmon, ... but management caught them and made them pay for it, after explaining the all-you-can-eat is only for breakfast, if you want cake in the afternoon, you can come back, pay and eat cake at that moment!

- Cape Cod buffet at Newport Bay Hotel: they take enough dessert with them to last another 3 weeks + Tupperware boxes for the salmon, ham, ...
However, since we always need lots of time at restaurants (I am a slow eater, and the slower you eat, the less you gain weight! ha!), we were about the last ones to leave the restaurant, and the waiters said we could take as much candy as we wanted from the dessert buffet. I still eat from it! (and I went first week of January... that's more than a month ago!) (Note: don't put that candy in your mouth just before the train of the Indy ride takes off. The loop + candy in your mouth = you almost die!)

Ah yes, and I almost forgot...This one happens at EVERY buffet...
People use one spoon to get everything that they want, instead of using the spoon designated for that food. I guess it's not so tacky as it is unsafe. It annoys me immensly because I am a vegetarian and don't want to have someone putting a meat spoon into my potatoes (or what have you), but I always feel awful for someone who may have food allergies, and could get really sick from it. That's a pet peeve of mine, I suppose...

I was at a breakfast buffet in Disneyland Paris one Christmas day.
I saw a woman with 2 young children, take a tray and fill it up with about 20 rolls of bread! The tray was packed so high with bread, then she sat down. She began to butter each piece and put it in her bag!
My mother and I just sat and stared. We were so shocked! Haven't seen anything like this at WDW yet!

AHHHH! I HATE THAT!!! :headache:

i am a vegetarian also and i dont think people even THINK about the "untesil contamination"!!!! :rotfl2:

i will starve the whole day if i even EXPECT there has been a "cross contamination" i also get nervous (this is OT but) when you get a sandwich somewhere and they cut the sandwich WITH THE MEAT first and then you see them going for yours and you have to scream WAIT!!! i understand there are things that go on "behind the scences" that you dont see- but if it is right in my face-- i need to react.

i think i may start a new thread in the DISNEY RESTAURANTS forum to inform people not to do that-- i will ask politely of course, but i am sure i will get some FLAMES!

No flames from me, how about an apology instead?
I'm sorry.
That is to all vegetarians and people with food allergies who eat at buffets.
I had never thought that these things could be issues for people.
I admit that as an omnivore I forget than not everyone can or wants to eat it all.
You have given me something to think about and I will definitely watch where the spoons go on buffets from now on.
Let people know- most of us who have mixed spoons probably never thought about it.

The food allergies and veggie portion of this thread really caught my eye. DD has several friends with severe (life threatening) allergies and I alsways wonder how their parents can even relax at a restaurant. I would guess no buffets for them!

FIL is so tacky at buffets in general, in fact he considers the grocery store to be one! He has been 'talked to' by produce and bakery managers for helping himself to food while MIL shops. Even for tearing into a loaf of bread and eating the middle and putting it back on the rack! At the last buffet we went to with him he tried to get me to put pats of butter in my pockets -the kind between the two pieces of wax paper, not even fully wrapped in foil! Another family function in a restaurant and he took all the cookies he liked off of the tray at our end of the table and then swapped the tray for the other one on the table and emptied that one too! Lastly, he is not a drinker, but get him near an open bar and he gets so plastered that he has passed out at every wedding I have seen him at! (He is 76 years old and diabetic too!) He got so mad that he missed a family photo from being passed out that MIL had to cut out a different picture of him and paste it into the picture of the rest of us. :rotfl2:

In short - all of the stories combined add up to my FIL! Did I mention that he paid cash for a Lexus SUV recently. I don't think the ones doing these things at buffets are doing it because they have no food to eat, do you?

Not at WDW and not at a buffet..but as a server one of the worst things I saw was a mom letting her 9-10 yr old son lick the inside lid of a ketchup bottle and then SHE put the lid back on the bottle!!! Disgusting! I went straight to the table, picked up the bottle and dumped it right in the trash..not a word to either of them, but I made sure the trash can I used was within their line of sight.

Thanks guys for thinking about us veggies (and allergic people too) :worship:

i understand that people who are not vegetarians would not even think twice about "double dipping" not that you dont care- but i am sure you are not even thinking about it.

when you are a veg (or allergic) you are constantly aware of everything that is going on with your food and making sure your order is correct-- sometimes if meat comes with say, breakfast- i will ask for it on a whole different plate so DH can have it for himself. when i ask this- a lot of times i just get a stare. i am not one to constantly say-- I AM A VEGETARIAN AND I WANT SPECIAL TREATMENT - but sometimes you have to explain why you are making "odd" requests or people dont get it.

THANKS AGAIN---AND I DID POST A SEPERATE THREAD ON THIS FORUM-- NOT SURE IF ANYONE WILL READ IT THOUGH. :thumbsup2

:dog2: :cat: :fish: :snail: pug: :dog:
LOVE ALL THE LITTLE ANIMALS!!
*******************************
OMG!! the ketchup thing is disgusting-- you know my DH will NEVER use the ketchup when he goes out- only if they are in packets. he thinks its gross just when people put their knives in the bottle to "get it going" :crazy2:

Oh thats so GROSS! I used to work in a restaurant and I know the desserts on the tray have been out on that tray and not a fridge all day and sometimes several-they are only for show and should never never be eaten! Ill bet they got so sick! :crazy2:
