Tables in wonderland card

I am assuming you have to use one method of payment. If I want my friend to have the discount I have to pay for hers and she reimburse me later correct?

yuck... so I'm assuming this means you have to carry the credit card as well and cannot room charge it?
You can charge it to your room. We've used TIW for several years and always charge the meals to our room. They will bring a portable reader to the table that can read your magic band.

ETA: The TIW card is in my name so I've always presented my room keycard (in the pre-magic band days) and now my magic band when paying for the meal.

As other poster mentioned you can go to Downtown Disney to get TIW card. It's because they have no way to verify you are DVC member over the phone (they are not allowed to go into your DVC account). If you have an AP/PAP, you can purchase over the phone and that's what I did in Dec (since we weren't going into parks before our 1st TS meal and our schedule was too tight to allow for a run to Downtown Disney). Also, I think you can get TIW card before entering park at the CS window.

We're staying at AKV without a car, so getting to DTD just to get the TIW would be a pain. We are hoping to eat at Boma that first night (I have an ADR for later in the week if we can't get in as a walk-in on arrival night). Just seems like it would be fairly common for people who arrive later in the afternoon/evening to want to eat at their resort. We'll have 6 Disney "adults" (including two kids ages 10 and 12) so that extra 10% savings using TIW instead of DVC would be nice!

That was exactly our same situation in Dec...staying at AKV, arriving late, dinner at resort. We, luckily, had PAP and could get TIW over the phone.

If you arrive soon enough, I would just take the bus to the AK theme park and go to the guest services window there to buy the TIW card and then ride the bus back to the resort. It's not too far. Good luck!

I have an AP. So u can purchase over the phone? How do i get the actual card or do you not need the card? I ask because we leave for Disney in a couple days.

Wait until you arrive at WDW to purchase, phone orders take 3 to 4 weeks for delivery of the actual TiW card.

And, remember, when buying over the phone it gets dated from that purchase date. We bought ours over the phone in Nov so ours expires Dec 31, 2014...if we had waited until we were on our vacation it would expire Jan 31, 2015...so we lost a month (but had no plans of going to WDW in Jan 2015 anyway).

I have an AP so I can buy over the phone closer to our dates but I was wondering would they deliver to our resort? We get in at approx 10pm so would not be able to get one til the next day and I have res at Boma for breakfast. Or do I need to mad dash over to AK before?

Great idea! I hadn't thought of that. Our plane lands at 2:30pm and AK closes at 5, so it will be close, but if we're there in time I'll send DH to get the TIW card. Does guest services outside of the park stay open until park closing? Or does it close earlier?

good question.. I will be there before rope drop and I hope they are open prior so I don't miss it :)

Guest Relations outside of the parks will be open 1 to 1.5 hours prior to any guests being let into the park and will remain open as long as there are guests still inside the park.

You could call and ask, but I don't think so. I think they'll need to mail it to your home and it takes a couple-few weeks.

According to the rules, the TIW cardholder has to be the one paying the bill. You could use 2 payment methods (such as cash and gift card, or cash and credit card, etc.) but strictly speaking, not a card in your name and a card in your friend's name. However, on the trips I've taken with friends, I'd say about 80% of the servers were willing to split the bill among friends. Some were strict about the rule and then I'd pay and my friends would pay me back.
