Another day, another EMH rope drop.
front of the line again. I win!
If you have never been to an Animal Kingdom rope drop, then you have been missing out. Those precious few early hours you can speed through the park gathering FPs and get on the early Safari where the animals are actually active. Just a few hours later, right before lunch you are dealing with this mess:
look at them run from me muhuhahaha
I had never eaten at Tusker House, in either it's CS or TS/buffet incarnations. I had an ADR for 11:35, which is right about when the place opens up. I was looking forward to it, as all signs pointed to a good meal.
all signs... get it... well at least I'm amused
Having already rode Expedition Everest 7 times Praise be to thee, our Blessed Lady of Single Rider Lines , I was seriously hungry and looking for a nice meal.
See, here I am so famished that I'm falling asleep on EE.
I need forty CC's of fried potatos- stat!
Tusker House is tucked around a corner, so basically it's like you enter in the back. There is a podium up front, but that guy pretty much just directs people to the back podium. I have no idea what it's so so flubbed up here, but just bypass the first guy and head on toward the back and make a right if you have ADRs. Aim for this thing:
like a lighthouse for foodies
I was early, as always, but that's just how I am thanks to years of band-geeking. Early is on time, on time is late, and late in inexcusable! I seriously only waited like 7minutes, and then they started calling names.
it's like they don't want people finding the entrance, this ain't club 33 people!
When you enter the restaurant you are in the food room. Then you get lead off to the seating area. It's a pretty nice set up, but it can get bottlenecked at the doorway between the food and eating areas.
I didn't get anything boozy for lunch, since I was planning on doing some more EE or dinosaur and I tend to get a might motion-sicknessy. I didn't know how long the dramine would hold out, so instead I got something I never ever get at home. A coke:
what is this strange new beverage?
I'm sure that sound weird, but I don't really drink a lot of soda at home. I am partial to a root brewski every now and then but when I'm getting my nonalcy on I usually drink iced tea. My Mom is a hardcore "coke"fiend so when I have one it reminds me of growing up.
Why look, now it's time to fill my plate and my tummy
sorry it's blurry, I was shivering with antici.............................pation
Up first we have a plate decked out with pretty much half of the buffet
the scary thing is my eyes are rarely bigger than my stomach
Plate # 1 going clockwise from the top:
Marrakesh Cous Cous, Curried Vegetable Samosa really good , Peri Peri Marinated Baked Salmon super tender and tasty, Spiced Vegetable Tandori, Pearl Cous Cous w/ Sweet Basil, Kenyan Coffee BBQ Pork Loin ohhhh sweet yummy piggy, Green Bean Red Onion Salad, and Curried Rice Salad.
Next up we have plate #2:
I think I really did try some of everything on the buffet
Plate # 2 going clockwise from the top:
Cape Mala Curried Chicken, Saffron Infused Root Vegetables w/ cabbage, Basamati Rice w/ Almonds, Spice Rubbed Roasted Chicken, Seafood Stew (clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops) this was the hands down winner of the meal, Orzo pasta w/ Feta, Fresh Green Beans w/ carrots, Spit Roasted Beef Top Sirloin, Red skinned Mashed Potatos that's under the beef, and oven roasted potato wedges.
Yes, I ate it all. I then rallied myself to the dessert offerings.
once again purely in the interests of trying to keep my fellow dis-ers as informed as possible
Dessert Plate going clockwise from the top:
Karrot spiced cake, Pecan Chocolate Bar, Lemon Bar, Passion Fruit Tart, Strawberry Mousse, Bara Cinnamon Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce YES!, Chocolate Volcano Cake, and in the middle a Macaroon.
also there were these
And now for some shots of the buffet area. It's mostly the desserts because I took these before I ate, while everyone else was crowding in on the lunch areas:
This meal rated pretty highly with me. I don't like to do a ton of buffets, but this had so much varity and wasn't your usual meat and potatos thing. The seafood stew itself is worth the price of admission, as was the Bara Cinnamon Bread Pudding.
I've had more authentic ethnic cuisine for sure, but this was delightful. I'm trying Yak and Yeti on my next trip, as I've never been there before, but I look forward to eating at the Tusker House again on another trip. yet another reason to plan another trip
Next food box: Raglan Road part 2- this time it's personal!
