Table for Humina, Humina?_____completed! 7/30

Another day, another EMH rope drop.

front of the line again. I win!
DSCI0430.jpg

If you have never been to an Animal Kingdom rope drop, then you have been missing out. Those precious few early hours you can speed through the park gathering FPs and get on the early Safari where the animals are actually active. Just a few hours later, right before lunch you are dealing with this mess:

look at them run from me muhuhahaha
DSCI0489.jpg

I had never eaten at Tusker House, in either it's CS or TS/buffet incarnations. I had an ADR for 11:35, which is right about when the place opens up. I was looking forward to it, as all signs pointed to a good meal.

all signs... get it... well at least I'm amused
DSCI0485.jpg

Having already rode Expedition Everest 7 times Praise be to thee, our Blessed Lady of Single Rider Lines , I was seriously hungry and looking for a nice meal.

See, here I am so famished that I'm falling asleep on EE.

I need forty CC's of fried potatos- stat!
DSCI0531.jpg

Tusker House is tucked around a corner, so basically it's like you enter in the back. There is a podium up front, but that guy pretty much just directs people to the back podium. I have no idea what it's so so flubbed up here, but just bypass the first guy and head on toward the back and make a right if you have ADRs. Aim for this thing:

like a lighthouse for foodies
DSCI0540.jpg

I was early, as always, but that's just how I am thanks to years of band-geeking. Early is on time, on time is late, and late in inexcusable! I seriously only waited like 7minutes, and then they started calling names.

it's like they don't want people finding the entrance, this ain't club 33 people!
DSCI0541.jpg

When you enter the restaurant you are in the food room. Then you get lead off to the seating area. It's a pretty nice set up, but it can get bottlenecked at the doorway between the food and eating areas.

DSCI0548.jpg

DSCI0542.jpg

I didn't get anything boozy for lunch, since I was planning on doing some more EE or dinosaur and I tend to get a might motion-sicknessy. I didn't know how long the dramine would hold out, so instead I got something I never ever get at home. A coke:

what is this strange new beverage?
DSCI0550.jpg

I'm sure that sound weird, but I don't really drink a lot of soda at home. I am partial to a root brewski every now and then but when I'm getting my nonalcy on I usually drink iced tea. My Mom is a hardcore "coke"fiend so when I have one it reminds me of growing up.

Why look, now it's time to fill my plate and my tummy

sorry it's blurry, I was shivering with antici.............................pation
DSCI0559.jpg

Up first we have a plate decked out with pretty much half of the buffet

the scary thing is my eyes are rarely bigger than my stomach
DSCI0551.jpg

Plate # 1 going clockwise from the top:
Marrakesh Cous Cous, Curried Vegetable Samosa really good , Peri Peri Marinated Baked Salmon super tender and tasty, Spiced Vegetable Tandori, Pearl Cous Cous w/ Sweet Basil, Kenyan Coffee BBQ Pork Loin ohhhh sweet yummy piggy, Green Bean Red Onion Salad, and Curried Rice Salad.

Next up we have plate #2:

I think I really did try some of everything on the buffet
DSCI0555.jpg

Plate # 2 going clockwise from the top:
Cape Mala Curried Chicken, Saffron Infused Root Vegetables w/ cabbage, Basamati Rice w/ Almonds, Spice Rubbed Roasted Chicken, Seafood Stew (clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops) this was the hands down winner of the meal, Orzo pasta w/ Feta, Fresh Green Beans w/ carrots, Spit Roasted Beef Top Sirloin, Red skinned Mashed Potatos that's under the beef, and oven roasted potato wedges.

Yes, I ate it all. I then rallied myself to the dessert offerings.

once again purely in the interests of trying to keep my fellow dis-ers as informed as possible
DSCI0557.jpg

Dessert Plate going clockwise from the top:
Karrot spiced cake, Pecan Chocolate Bar, Lemon Bar, Passion Fruit Tart, Strawberry Mousse, Bara Cinnamon Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce YES!, Chocolate Volcano Cake, and in the middle a Macaroon.

also there were these:rolleyes1
DSCI0556.jpg

And now for some shots of the buffet area. It's mostly the desserts because I took these before I ate, while everyone else was crowding in on the lunch areas:

DSCI0558.jpg

This meal rated pretty highly with me. I don't like to do a ton of buffets, but this had so much varity and wasn't your usual meat and potatos thing. The seafood stew itself is worth the price of admission, as was the Bara Cinnamon Bread Pudding.:goodvibes I've had more authentic ethnic cuisine for sure, but this was delightful. I'm trying Yak and Yeti on my next trip, as I've never been there before, but I look forward to eating at the Tusker House again on another trip. yet another reason to plan another trip

Next food box: Raglan Road part 2- this time it's personal!

Wow Laura,

Everything looks great there. I'll be trying Tusker House for the first time in September. Now I can't wait. :jumping2:

Another great review, Laura! We loved Tusker House as a CS restaurant, and when I first heard that they were switching to a TS, I was upset, but we ate breakfast there last May, and absolutely loved up. I totally agree that they offer some more interesting offerings than the regular WDW buffets.

Hi Laura, I am angelmav and I am a fan!

You might remember me as a fan of such films as The Revenge of Abe Lincoln and Dial M for Murderesnous!

Seriously great reviews!

I havent been this excited since they invented Brew 'n' Chew!

Last time I ate at Tusker House, I was able to get the basic rotisserie chicken meal as counter service. I really need to get my rear and gear and eat there. (I rhymed. Heh.)

I'm sure you'll love it! There is so much to choose from, and I found it all to be tasty. The chefs are helpful too.

Breakfast must be so much fun there! I'd love to eat with Donald, he's my fav.

You had me at Joss Whedonese. Bully reviews!

Yes, I minored in Whendonese in college.:lmao:

 MC Briar Rose! You should totally give it a try, the variety is great.

After my lunch I spent a little more time in the Animal Kingdom, but I done about all that i had planned to do there. I took a bus to the Animal Kingdom Lodge so that I could try out a certain treat that the boards keep tittering about.

DSCI0564.jpg

The lobby is great, similar to the Wilderness Lodge and the Grand Californian- but African themed obvs. You could spend alot of time here looking at the artwork... and trying to find where the restaurants are. Trying to figure out how to get to Mara was quite the experiance. I had never been to the Animal Kingdom Lodge before and it's layout is a little weird. Boma and Jiko are off to the right, and then down some stairs. Mara is the counter service choice at this resort and it's down by the pool. Here there be Zebra Domes.

Oh, glory of glories. Oh heavenly testament to the eternal majesty of God's creation.

Holy macaroni!
DSCI0578.jpg

I ate two before I thought, oh yeah, trip report. These were great! They were cold, kinda slimy, but sweet jebus they were tasty. It's kinda of a custard, on top of a little bit of cake, covered in white chocolate. This is something that probably isn't up everyone's alley, but I drove up that alley, parked my car, and am living in a cardboard box there it's so good.

DSCI0574.jpg

After spending about an hour around the AKL I took a bus to the Magic Kingdom. Then I took a boat to Fort Wilderness. I wandered around taking pictures, then walked the trail to Wilderness Lodge. This is the great part about solo trips. You can just do what you want to do, even if it might be seen by some as a waste of park time.

After wandering around Wilderness Lodge for a bit, I took a boat back to the Magic Kingdom.

DSCI0637.jpg

Even though I had already had a big lunch, and a snack, I was hungry again after all that walking. I made a left at the hub and headed for Adventureland.

it's only a model
DSCI0649.jpg

And so I got my second iconic park snack of the day: Dole Whip!

whip it good
DSCI0650.jpg

I am not a fan of dolewhip floats. Too much :crazy2:. The dole whip by itself though, I find to be a perfectly balanced tasty treat. It's not too sweet and is perfectly refreshing after hiking around for the better part of the afternoon. I don't get these very often at DL, maybe 1 out of every 4 trips or so, but I always get one at WDW. They also have other softserve flavors too, but when in Adventureland, do as the Adventurlandians!

Next post: Raglan Road 2- Celtic Boogaloo

That's pee your pants funny!

AGREED!

I wish you could have seen the look of confusion on the CM's face when I tried to order this ice cream at Disneyland.

"I want the cone with jimmies." Eventually, I resorted to pointing. This kid and I did not speak the same language.:)

Hi everyone, sorry to post something personal, but- I'm going to have to take a few days off from here, even though posting pictures with witty comments would maybe take my mind off of things. I'll be back next week, I just didn't want anyone who obsessively checks for updates (like I do) to think I was AWOL.

After posting yesterday's mini review I got a call from my Mom letting my know my Nana had passed away. She was almost 90. She's the fine lady who taught me how to cook, what to look for in a good wine, and just about every other domestic goddess trick that I know. She was hilarious to boot and I only hope I can someday be half of the badass she is. was. I took one trip to WDW with her, when she was 78 and it's one of the best memories I have. You wouldn't believe the way she flirted with Chip and Dale, and I think she rode BTMR twenty times if she rode it once.

Thanks to everyone for reading so far:hug: and I'll be back next week.
