t shirt sizes question

I have a stupid - "I am not the Momma and I have no idea about this" question....


If someone says their child wears a 5/6 shirt...is that a Youth XS? S?

I can't seem to find this answer anywhere. It keeps giving me inches and I don't know how many inches the child is... Does that make any sense??

Ok this is coming from a Disney Dad so who knows if it is correct If I remember correctly an XS is a 4-5 a small 5-6

A Disney Dad can still buy clothes! My friend always takes her Dad with her shopping...she says he buys her more stuff!

I was thinking:

5-6 XS
7-8 S
9-10 M
11-12 L
12-14 XL

??? Is that right??

It all depends...Is this a Disney shirt?

I just went and found my 6 yo DS's favorite WDW shirt that I bought him 3 years ago, and it still fits! It's an XS (no size range indicated) and has been laundered to death, so it's a little bit smaller...He has lots of shirts in a size small 5-6 range that fit a little more loosely. (I held them up next to the disney shirt in question, I'm such a dork!) All manufacturers are different though. So it's not an easy question.

Better to buy too big--as evidenced by the ratty (and much loved) Disney shirt that DS just can't bear to give up. (3 years? really!)

BTW, I'm a big fan of your TRs.

The problem is that the answer varies, depending on the company/manufacturer. And whether it's a boy or girl. It can be frustrating, even for a mom who buys clothes for DDs way too often!

If you want to tell me where you're buying the shirt, I might be able to help. I have a size 5/6 DD, and she's usually a Small. Some brands break up girl sizes 4/5 and 6/6X, which makes it hard when the child is in-between. And boy sizes seem run bigger than girls. My older DD is a medium, but I bought plain white turtlenecks (for her school uniform-- $2 cheaper in the boy section, but that's a rant for another day ) and a small was plenty big.

My DS is 4 and wears a 4-5 or XS.
My DS who is 2 wears a 2T and I bought him an XXS (but it's a bit big about a 3T).

Depends on the manufacturer...XS is generally 4/5 S- 5/6 M 7/8
