I'm going crazy with split stay reservations BUT trying to maximize the character meals and kid-size this vacation up. My little 4yo boy and almost 3yo girl I think will like this....they are just now learning about dinosaurs.

How is food? Should we make this a must -do when we are in DTD???

I am likely in the minority, but I thought T Rex was chaotic, touristy, and served mediocre food.

I started taking my kids to Raglan Road -- right next to T-Rex -- when they were 3 and 5, and they insist we go there twice on every trip (they are now 7 and 9). The live dancing and music keeps my kids slapping the table for hours each trip.

T-Rex isn't even on our radar anymore. It's in our bottom 10 Disney Restaurants. If you want to see it just walk in and look around for 2 minutes.

So I'd recommend you consider RR over TR. I don't know anything about your tastes, but IMO, RR is far superior.

We did go to raglan road last trip (nov 13) and did love that place!!! I just thought it might be nice to try a cool dinosaur place with the kids..,,.,,,I hate for us to be disappointed though

Thanks for sharing your opinion!

We like the food at T-Rex. It isn't anything amazing, but it is good, plentiful and yummy. The atmosphere is the draw. If your kids like dinosaurs and aren't afraid of loud noises then I would give it a try. Just be aware that the portions are huge and easily shared. We usually share or bring leftovers back to our villa and eat them for dinner on another night of the trip.

No need in repeating basically exactly what I was going to post.

It's a cool place but loud and hectic. We've gone a few times but I'm done.

Learning about dinosaurs and being in a room full of loud growling dinosaurs is completely different. We tried it last trip and my 4 year old was terrified and did not enjoy it at all. If I could do it again, I would wait until he was 8 or so. The food was ok, think Applebees or TGI Fridays quality.

Great review everyone- exactly what I needed! Any other DTD favs other than RR? We might like to try a new DTD place this next trip!

I would have to give T-rex a so-so review. We were there last summer and had an ADR. We still had to wait about 50 minutes to get a table even after repeatedly asking about our table. It is loud and overpriced. Food is good though; our DS did enjoy the dinosaurs.

You know? I think the food is pretty good, actually. The bar's been set pretty darn low on-property lately, IMO, and given that as a standard, I don't know of anywhere much better for the same money.

Go out on 192 and go to Outback for 1/2 the money and get twice as good food. If we throw that bar out there, everything on-property suddenly got the bar raised to a level they can't possibly touch.

Let's face it folks. On-property food stinks generally speaking. There aren't 3 good restaurants left on-property and the ones that are have priced themselves so outrageously that they aren't even affordable anymore. That's what happens when you have an audience that's 90%+ captive.

Just like eating at the Rainforest, same people own it, except it's REAL LOUD!!! There's no "tree" like Rainforest to absorb all that sound so it's all hard surfaces bouncing sound.

LOL! Yes that gives me a really great picture of what it's like now, haha

DS has some sensory issues so I DON'T think that t-Rex with all the LOUDness will be a good option.

Four year old grandson loves dinosaurs. We couldn't even get him to go into the restaurant. He was terrified.

We've eaten there and Rainforest multiple times. But my advice is "save yourselves!" We vowed never to return to either. As mentioned, very loud and chaotic, uninspired food, most table locations are sub-par for the attractions. There's certainly much better offerings at DTD. If you INSIST, ask for booths, aquariums or other such prime seating.

We must be the minority because my kids love T-Rex. My DD8, DS5 and DD2 have been a few times since my oldest DD was 5 and have always enjoyed the dinosaurs, giant bugs and sea animals. They are kids who love science and creatures and this place does not disappoint. My 2yo wasn't frightened at all last August but we heard several crying children when the meteor shower was going on. The food is IMO better than Rainforest (ew, had a yuck experience there) but nothing to write home about. Portions are huge. My kids like the pasta and if they don't complain and behave at a restaurant we see that as a WIN :thumbsup2

I have seen TREX with a very long line at night and it is certainly not worth that wait. We have gone for lunch on DTD/pool days and it has been a good choice (and easily walked in!) I haven't tried RR yet but that is on the list for our August trip!

I was trying to think of somewhere I'd recommend at DTD that's not Raglan Road, but I can't. Maybe Earl of Sandwich?

Earl of Sandwich is my new cheap breakfast place to go. They have good breakfast sandwiches and give an AP/DVC discount. (Either or both, I forget which)

We like Splitsville and House of Blues at DTD, never had problems getting to eat at either and both take TIW so they are in rotation as well.

They're all chain type places, none has an old lady back there rolling biscuits, or making pasta. They all have large portions too.
