We will be going to Disney world in september and would like to go to the Trex restaurant. I will have a 7,9 and 3 year old. My 3 year old hates loud noises. We went to Rainforest Cafe once and once we were sat down, we had to leave because once the rain, thunder and animal noises started my 3 year old DD started to freak and wouldn't calm down because of the noise. So how is the noise at the Trex? Are there the background sounds like the rain or dinosaurs or anything like htat?

I believe there is a "Meteor Shower" depicted similar to the thunder storm at Rainforest. For the life of me I can't remember how loud it was. I know it didn't bother my DD but she is older (9).

Maybe someone else can post the sound level. Sorry I can't remember. Geez, I was just there in January. :sad2:

There is a meteor shower with loud noises every 15 minutes.
We had dinner there a few weeks ago and it is a loud restaurant, the dinos roar at times too. We found that the back room is much less noisy, the closer you are to the front of the restaurant the louder it gets. Request a seat in the back room if you can!
It is a cool restaurant though!

Definitely louder than Rainforest Cafe. We were just there on Sunday and it took my older son a while to get used to it (he is 6...my 3 yr old was fine...go figure!). Even so, he had his ears plugged during the meteor shower each time it started. In between the meteor showers, it is just music and the occasional roar of the dinosaurs etc but the noise level is HIGH! I would say that if your 3yr old was freaked by the RFC, definitely avoid t-rex because it is significantly louder and way more stimulation (lights change colors, explosions etc).
Maybe they will let you walk through to see how your kids react? Oddly enough...my 6 yr old now can't wait to go back. His quote "it is loud, but COOL!"

Maybe your DD could wear some sort of ear plugs, I am hoping to take my DGC there in Sept because I think they would love it just for the atomsphere alone.:goodvibes

It's very noisy. Much louder than Rainforest. And the noises that the dino's make can be pretty scary to some young ones since they aren't making typical "animal" noises.

Agree with others...way louder than RFC and the noises are more frequent. It is absolutely obnoxious in there.

It is very loud. Very cool, but if she had problems at Rainforest Cafe then Trex will be just ugly.

Yeah, the meteor shower every 20 minutes is definitely loud and startling. The dinosaurs all go nuts! I wouldn't recommend it for you this trip. :sad1:

If your little one couldn't handle RFC, she won't last 10 minutes in T-Rex. It's much noisier than RFC, and when the meteor shower starts, every dino in the place starts roaring. Loudly. And that's in addition to the pounding, rumbling, flashing meteor shower effects.

If you request a table in the "ice room" it is the best place for a young child. There are NO dinosaurs in there (just a huge fossil in the wall) There are some smaller dinosaurs bordering the area, but nothing inside. It is much less noisy in there also as the meteor shower takes place outside there. I hardly ever knew the meteor shower was happening because we couldn't really see much from in there. My son (2.5) was very scared upon entering the restaurant, I requested the ice room and he was fine once inside there. The food was excellent and a good time was had by all. FYI, the bathrooms are located right off of the ice room so you don't need to walk through the dinosaurs to get there which is good. It is not quiet in the ice room, just sheltered by the noise and dinosaurs around, so there it is still noisy, just not as loud as the other areas.

T-res is extremely loud!!!!!! My wife and I were literally yelling at each other so we could hear each other. We were seated in front right by the bar so I guess it true, the closer you sit to the front the louder it is.

We live about 20 minutes from the original TRex in Kansas City. The meteor shower is every 30 minutes, and it is loud. My ds (who is four now) was nearly in tears the first time we went--he was 3.5 then. The entire place is loud, but the meteor shower is not only loud, but the lights flash and change colors. After about 5 visits, my ds is better with the meteor shower. If your dd really hates loud noises, I'd say stay away!

I think that if Rainforest is too loud, then T-Rex may be worth skipping this trip.

You could always take your DS3 to the restaurant and give him a little trial run standing just outside by the check in podium. He may get a good feel for his fear factor doing that.

Though T-Rex takes reservations, it's still easy to walk in there virtually any time of the day since it's such a huge restaurant.

(If your DS tolerates the noise well and you do dine there, ask to be seated in the ice room.)

I definitely agree with the other posters who are not recommending T-Rex. I've been the Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex and T-Rex is by far louder and scarier. I would be wary of bringing in any 3 year old, let alone one who has already had difficulty in a similar situation. Why frighten the child? You can always visit this restaurant in the future.
