SWW, BCR & Technically, we were literally on Mars! New - 8/31 - Final Update

Great character pics! Oh man good for you for biting your tongue. I'm with you on thinking that was completely wrong! :furious:

Loving your TR and the stories of your Mom. I definitely believe that our loved ones are still here with us after physically leaving this world and I love hearing stories like yours. We check into Yacht Club on Saturday-we are SO excited to swim in SAB!

:welcome: I hope you are having a good time. Can't wait to hear about it when you get back.

I love everything so far!!!! Great pictures. :) The Beach Club is BEAUTIFUL. Oh my goodness.

I cannot believe that mom gave the card and the mother mom just took it. That drives me bonkers.

:welcome: I agree about the GAC. It was very hard for me to keep my mouth shut. Are you doing a TR for your trip?

Your son is adorable. Looking forward to reading more about your trip. :)

:welcome: Thanks. I will be updating frequently so stay tuned:)

Great update!!!

Glad you could see some of the Illuminations fireworks from your room. We have stayed at the BC twice. The second room we had was standard view- we could see some of the Illuminations fireworks, but we had an awesome view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks (Nightastic)!
Wow I would have never thought there was anywhere you could see the MK fireworks. Thats awesome. Exactly where was the room?

Sounds like you had a really effective, productive, fun morning at SWW! Great pictures!

Stay tuned the afternoon gets even better:banana:

That's nice that you struck up a friendship with the people in the JTA line. We did that once in the TSM queue- my son Ben 9 at the time, and I talked with Paul, a 4 year old boy, the whole time. It is such a nice memory for us and it was a great way to pass the time.

I love meeting new people when we are there. I especially love when I can help someone by offer some of the great tips I have learned from the DIS.

Less impressed with the other family using a GAC pass when not needed!

Shocking is all I can say.

Love the pictures with the band members.

Ruh-roh with an unexpected surprise!

Those guys are a hoot:rotfl:.

Sounds like you got off to a great start on those character photos! Love the face paint. I've seen Star Wars, but I'm not a huge fan, so I have to ask, is the face paint a particular character? It looks a bit like Darth Maul (sp?), but different too...
Yikes on the GAC sharing. That's just crazy/sad/shocking. Hard to believe that people are completely okay with doing that. :crazy2:
Can't wait to hear about the rest of your day. But, an unpleasant surprise? Uh oh.

The face paint was not an official SW character as they did not have those (which kind of surprised me). It was just a generic character.

I agree about the GAC. You must not believe in Karma at all to do that.

Day 3 SWW @ DHS Part 2

When I left off last we has just finished lunch at the ABC Commissary and were headed to Jedi Training. On our walk over we picked up some FPs for Star Tours.

They take about 40 kids per class for Jedi Training when it is SWW so the place was much more crowded than usual. Gabriel had gotten a Jedi robe earlier in the day and was very excited when the CM told him he could wear it instead of one of theirs for his training. While we were waiting, the mother of one of the families we had chatted with while waiting to sign up for Jedi training came over and gave me three FPs for TSM that they would not be able to use to thank me for the information I had given her. So we got another sprinkle of pixiedust:

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

They broke the kids into two different groups. This is because they have half the kids on the regular stage and half on the floor by the regular stage. This is how they get additional kids into the classes. In the past Gabriel has always ended up on the regular stage where the kids fight Darth Vader. This time he was hoping to get the lower stage where the kids fight Ventress :goodvibes.

It was not long before we were being ushered over to the training area and Gabriel was very excited when he realized he was in the lower area pixiedust:

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

It was really hot at that point so I stood in some shade where I could still see Gabriel while Kenny stood right at the rope where Gabriel could see him. Here is a video of his battle with Ventress.

Jedi Training Video

After we finished Jedi training, Gabriel and Kenny decided to ride Star Tours again since the line said 10 minutes. That is one line that I really do not get. It will go from 40 minutes to 15 minutes to 30 minutes to 5 minutes? I decided to skip Star Tours and head up front to complete two important things I had forgotten to take care of. 1) Get my Photopass+ card and 2) Purchase a Tables in Wonderland card. I figured I would also get the pictures from Gabriels Jedi Training added to our card while I was up there so kill two birds with one stone.

I headed first to Guest Services to get the TiW card as we would need that for dinner. I was shocked to see a line way out the door for Guest Services. There must have been 30+ people out the door and who knows how many in. So that was not an option for me as I suspect I would be in line for at least an hour or if it went the way my last GS went 30 hours:rotfl: . I briefly contemplated leaving the park and using GS on the outside but a very nice CM went out and looked and said that line was pretty long too. So I abandoned my TiW card and headed across the street to the photopass store where I realized that I had left my voucher for Photopass+ in the room:headache:. I then attempted to get the Jedi Training pictures loaded to the regular photopass card I had gotten earlier and was told that the pictures had not been uploaded yet. So, I headed back over to meet Kenny and Gabriel at Star Tours stopping to get a Bloody Mary at 50s prime time along the way (I was determined to get something out of that trip ;)).

By the time Kenny and Gabriel came off the ride it was time for us to head over to TSM to use the bonus FPs we had gotten from our new friend at Jedi training. We boarded and were about half way through the ride when it broke down. At first I thought it was the typical pause that is somewhat common to get on TSM but eventually the lights came on and we lost our scores. I was so bummed because I was thinking this might be the ride I finally beat Kenny since I was doing so good! We sat for about 10 minutes and I realized that we were probably not getting off the ride using the normal exit process. Sure enough about 10 minutes later cast members started coming out to beginning letting people of the ride.

I thought this was awesome. I mean how many people get to walk through the TSM ride?? The poor autistic boy behind us did not think it was so awesome and needed a lot of reassurance about what had happened. The CMs were great with him and answered all his questions with a lot of patience. I tried to video tape and take pictures of the process but was told pretty quickly that video or picture taking was not allowed so I reluctantly put my stuff away. As is typical, when we exited the ride we each received a FP to ride it again any time before 5/31.

Our FPs for Star Tours had just opened when we finished TSM so we headed back there. Believe it or not Gabriel was picked as the Rebel Spy again pixiedust: Maybe he did know a secret:confused3 . When we got off the ride Gabriel decided to build a light saber (because the 4 he has are just not enough). The cast member that helped him was great. He gave Gabriel just enough direction to keep him moving along but really let him do everything on his own. Gabriel decided this time he needed a double bladed light saber.

It was now almost time for our dinner reservations (5:50pm) which were at Sci Fi so we headed there.

I did not take a single picture but will say that my dinner was delicious. I got a pasta with scrimp dish. The portion size was just perfect and I was able to finish it all which is really unusual for me.

We were done with dinner by 6:30pm so with light saber in hand we headed over so Gabriel could battle Darth Maul. His line was surprisingly short (him, Darth Vador, Queen Amidala and Chewy (with the occasional Ewok) are the only characters that have a line to themselves).

This is the point where we received our unpleasant surprise. I took one picture and the camera battery went completely dead. I swear there was no warning. Thank goodness for camera phones or we would not have had a backup plan and most of the roaming characters do not have a photopass person.

We saw these roamers next:

Photo0087FourBySix by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

She is my absolute favorite character.

Photo0089FourBySix by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

This guy was really hard to get to stop to take a picture. I guess they do it on purpose since they are bad guys but you have to throw yourself in front of them to get them to stop.

After that, it was a very short walk to see Boba Fett.

photo4 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

Gabriel was pretty much done by this point as it was a little after 7pm and we had been at the park with no break since 7:30am so we started heading to the front to catch a boat. We did encounter a couple of roamers along the way:

Gabriel does not like getting his picture with the bad guys.

We also got some Magic Shots throughout the day:

As we headed back to the room Kenny and I chalked this day up as a success. We had gotten more character meets out of the way than I had anticipated we would and we did it with little to no irritation. I have to give a shout out to http://kennythepirate.com/ whose website made our success possible. The information he provided about the character meet and greets at SWW was 100% accurate. This is information that is not released freely by Disney yet critical to have.

We were back in the room by 8pm. Then Gabriel got a second wind and decided he wanted to see the movie on the beach. So I quickly washed the paint off his face and we headed down there. We arrived in time to roast a couple of marshmallows:

DSC03259 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

But not in time to get a seat to watch the movie. The place was packed. I was actually secretly glad because we really needed an early night after the early morning. Gabriel also took it in stride when I reminded him that we would be there for 2 weeks and he would get plenty of opportunity to watch the movie on the beach. However, there were lots of guests that were not so glad and I think the CMs heard a lot of complaining that night. I did take a picture of what the setup looks like for the movie:

We were all in bed and asleep by 10pm again.

Up next; Breakfast with some characters and a down day with a special surprise at the end.

Wow, some seriously great pictures, even though your camera unexpectedly uncharged/discharged/petered out!

Love the magic shot with the Storm Troopers!

The Jedi Training video was cool. My son Ben did the JTA once but I didn't get to see it :( I was back at the resort with my older son who was not feeling well.

That was really nice of the family to give you TSM FP- too bad the ride broke down, but at least you would be able to come back at your convenience.

Were you able to get your TiW card before the Sci Fi dinner? I can certainly understand your reluctance after your first Guest Services experience.

Great picture of the marshmallow roast.

Great photos!!! I love the one where he is using the force on the storm troopers. You really did meet lots of characters!!

Too bad about the TIW card. I hope you were able to get it before dinner.

We did the campfire one night too but I didn't have my camera because we had been swimming so maybe I'll steal your pictures.... :rotfl2: Just kidding!

Loving your trip report so far!

Wow, some seriously great pictures, even though your camera unexpectedly uncharged/discharged/petered out!

We got this camera right before our trip last September and I seriously need to take some time and read the manual. I am sure there was some kind of warning but I just did not see it. After that, priority 1 when we got back to the room was to put the camera battery on the charger.

Love the magic shot with the Storm Troopers!
Magic shots are so awesome. We got so many great ones this trip that will be in my furture updates.

This was the 8th or 9th time my DS has done Jedi Training. He never gets tired of it.

I was really ok with the breakdown. We had alot of fun cutting up with the other guests as we were escorted out of the ride.

Were you able to get your TiW card before the Sci Fi dinner? I can certainly understand your reluctance after your first Guest Services experience.

Nope, we had to eat dinner that night without a discount :sad1: .

Great picture of the marshmallow roast.

I love the marshmallow roast even though no one in our family eats marshmallows. We usually get one pack of marshmallows and bring it back with us each night we come of the trip so we do not waste. I think they give you 5 or 6 per pack and that lasted us the whole 2 weeks.

Great photos!!! I love the one where he is using the force on the storm troopers. You really did meet lots of characters!!

And that is not all of them yet. We still have two more SWW days to go!

Too bad about the TIW card. I hope you were able to get it before dinner.

Nope, dinner that night was discountless;)

Feel free to use any pictures I have that you might need:thumbsup2

Day 4 Memorial Day
Even though I would have loved to sleep in this morning I was determined to get my TiW card before we ate breakfast as I was not going to miss out on a discount for another meal. I was up and ready to head to GS at EPCOT by 7:45am. Our breakfast reservations were for 8:55am but the restaurant was right in our lobby and it was just a 5 minute walk to GS so I felt confident that I could run over, get a TiW card and get back in plenty of time to get Gabriel ready and get to breakfast on time. So, I left Kenny and Gabriel sleeping and headed out the door.

I arrived at GS at 7:55am and was happy to see it was open. I was not sure it would be since the park did not open until 9am. Once again there was only one person in line and they were already being taken care of so I was second in line. At 8:20am I called Kenny to let him know I was still in line and he needed to get Gabriel up and get him ready without me. At 8:40 I called Kenny to tell him I was still in line and would need to meet him at the restaurant. At 8:45am I was ready to give up and leave when it finally became my turn. I will admit I was not a happy camper by this point and it did not get better when it became my turn and the CM did not even mention the wait :furious:. This was the second time this trip that I had waited way too long at GS. The first time 1hr and the second time 50 minutes. Both times there was just one person in front of me. I honesty considered calling this TR Please, please dont make me go to Guest Services! I did tell the CM that I felt like there needed to be some kind of plan when a single guest had a problem that was going to take over 10 minutes to resolve. Perhaps call a manager and have them come over to help? Or call another CM and have them open the other window? Really anything besides making someone wait an hour to get helped. The CM could have cared less so I got my TiW and took off running for Cape May.

We all made it to breakfast on time. Wow does that area get busy. There were people everywhere. We checked in, got a pager and were called up after waiting about 10 minutes. Our waiter came right away and got our drink orders (a mimosa for me) and told us we should wait for Goofy and then head to the buffet so we would be back by the time the next character came.

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

I did manage to remember to take a few pictures of our food. I could not get any pictures of the actual buffet because it was just too packed.

Sadly we are not adventurous eaters when it comes to breakfast. Our next character was Minnie:

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

And last but not least Donald (he wanted to make it clear that he was #1 ::yes:: )

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

When it came time to pay I realized that I did not have my KTTWC. I retraced my steps and realized I had left it in the folio at Sci Fi when I used it to pay the night before. I was really glad for the new pin process they added to the KTTWC so I did not have to worry about someone else using my key. We gave the waiter Kennys key to pay and the minute he brought the check back for us to add the tip I realized I had not given him the TiW card :headache:. Thankfully when I told the waiter he said it would be no problem for him to reprocess the check using the TiW card pixiedust: . If he had not been able to do that I think I might have cried. The minute we finished I ran over to the front desk to get a new key because we were heading straight to the pool after breakfast. I had my new key within minutes. Since it was already 10am we headed out to the pool to grab some chairs. There had not been one single available chair when we had been at the pool on Saturday.

We put our stuff on a chair and were about to head to the rest room to change into our suits we had brought down with us when a CM came up and informed us that we could not save chairs. I explained to her that we were just going to the restroom to change into our suits and her response was if we were not back in 10 minutes then she would remove our stuff from the chairs. So, we decided to change in shifts. Gabriel and I went first and then Kenny went.

We stayed at the pool until lunch time when we grabbed some food from Hannahs and headed back up to the room. We all got cleaned up and decided to just relax in the room for a while. We really needed a break after the last couple of days so doing nothing really felt good. After a while I started to get a little stir crazy so decided to head down to lobby. I had two things I wanted to take care of. 1) get my Photopass+ card because I learned at the photopass place at DHS that you could get one in the BC lobby and 2) meet this lovely lady:

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

Yep, I got to meet the infamous Teena! I was still feeling a little down about our choice of resorts. I will be honest I was not loving the Beach Club and missing the Boardwalk terribly. Teena asked me if I was enjoying my stay and I decided to be honest with her and tell her how I was feeling. She was so sweet and told me a story (which I hope I repeat correctly) about how her family had gone to Cape May every year for a 2 week vacation. They always stayed at the same place. The place was eventually sold and completely changed to the point that it was just too fancy for them. So they had to find another place to stay. The new place was very nice and she said if it been the first place they had ever stayed they probably would have loved it but because of their feelings toward the old place it took them several vacations to get to the point where they really enjoyed the new place. This made me feel better so I decided to try to relax more and just give Beach Club a chance.

After a very nice chat with Teena she showed me where to go to get my Photopass+ card. Sadly they were closed (it was 4pm) so I could not get it. For everyones reference I took a picture of the desk and the card that gives their hours (which are a bit odd IMO):

DSC04450 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

Next I went outside to cut through the pool area in an effort to get over to Beaches and Cream. I wanted to bring a milk shake back to the room for Gabriel. I entered by Hurricane Hannahs and was very surprised that they did not ask to see my key or give me a wrist band. I did not want to be ejected on my way across the pool for not having the band so I asked a CM where I needed to go to get one. They told me they were not checking keys that night and were just letting people enter on the honor system  . I headed back up to the room after getting the milkshake and waited for the photopass booth to open. Kennys brother and sister in law who live right in Kissimmee were meeting us at 6:30pm for dinner at my favorite restaurant:

BigRiver_exterior by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr
Photo borrowed from the internet

At 5pm we all headed down to the photopass desk. The process to get my card was very quick and painless so we were done by 5:10pm. Since we still had about an hour and ½ before we needed to meet Kennys family we decided to head over and spend some time at Boardwalk.

I just love that area (but for some reason took no pictures). First, I let Big River know that we would need a table outside for 5 at 6:30pm. Regardless of how hot it is I have to sit outside at this restaurant. They went ahead and put us on the list so we could get sat right away when Kennys family arrived. Then we spent some time watching a few of the performers and before we knew it it was time to get our table. Kennys brother and SIL were not there yet but they went ahead and sat us and got our drink orders. One of my favorite drinks is a Mojito and they make a really good one. Within minutes after our drinks arrived Kennys brother and SIL showed up. We had a really nice dinner which I took absolutely no pictures of. I do remember that I got the salmon and Kenny got the ribs. We thought both were delicious.

After dinner it was time for the special surprise I had planned for the evening. We were all going on an illuminations cruise :dance3: . I had never been on one of these (we did do the Pirates and Pals Wishes cruise last September). We checked in for our boat at the Yacht club dock. For the life of me I cannot remember our Captains name but will say he was excellent! He encouraged everyone to take a restroom break before we set sail so we ran into the Yacht club and used their restrooms. While we were in the rest room I realized that I had forgotten to use my TiW card when I paid at Big River Grill. Since I had paid for everyones dinner and the discount would have been about $30 I was very frustrated with myself . At the rate I was going I was not going to get enough benefit to pay for the $100 card.

When we got back to the dock the captain gave Gabriel a life jacket which is mandatory for everyone under the age of 12 and we were off. The cruise starts with a drive over to DHS. During the trip the captain shares some fun facts about landmarks we pass. I honestly do not remember much of what he told us but do remember it was interesting. After our little cruise we headed over to EPCOT and docked right under the bridge that connects France to the UK. Ours was the first boat so we tied up to the wall and then all the other boats tie up to each other.

Kenny's Brother and SIL (the people behind them are from the next boat so it gives you an idea of how the boats tie up to each other.

DSC03286 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr
The people behind us were in a reserved section to watch the show.

DSC03290 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

At that point our Captain gave us the history of illuminations and how it was created. Again, I do not remember much about what he said but it was fascinating. It was very windy that night and sadly the wind was blowing right towards us. So when the show started the captain gave us all safety glasses to wear and warned us that we should expect some gifts from the show. The show started soon after and all I can say is that it was the most amazing show I have ever watched in my life. I have seen illuminations many times but never felt before the way I felt about that it that night. Honestly, it was almost a spiritual feeling. I would highly recommend it to anyone and we plan to make it an annual event for us. We did end up needing the safety glasses and the gifts the captain was talking about were ashes from the show :rotfl2:. When the cruise was complete, we tipped our captain (he really fought us on accepting the tip which I thought was unusual but finally took it ) then we walked Kennys family back to the boardwalk where they had parked their car and then headed back to our room.

Up next; another early start to make rope drop at AK

Crazy that you had ANOTHER bad experience at Guest Services!!! I would have definitely said something like you did. Too bad you didn't have time to ask for a manager or someone else to explain what was happening.

We tried Big River Grille on this trip too!

Oh what a neat surprise!! An Illuminations cruise would be a great way to end the evening! The night we watched it we stood right next to Rose and Crown in UK with the wind blowing towards us of course. :confused3 We also received "surprises" of big chunks of blown out fireworks. It was kinda crazy! I can't imagine being on a boat for that!

I'm loving your TR and all your pictures!

I debated about sending an email or trying to contact a manager later in the week but just never found the time. One of the biggest points of stress for me was knowing that Kenny was going to pick out Gabriel's cloths for the day and we were going to a character breakfast that included lots of pictures  . As you can see by the pictures he ended up doing just fine.

This has become a tradition for us. We usually do it on our first night and I just love to sit outside with the view of the Boardwalk. That is usually the first spot that I start to feel the stress slip away and realize we are actually on vacation. Plus they make a great Mojito something that is not true anywhere else I have found in Disney.

It was bad but did not really take away from the experience. Every one of us were speachless when the show ended.

I'm loving your TR and all your pictures!

Thanks:thumbsup2. I will probably do an update everyday to get this finished by the end of the month. I am making major changes to our September trip and need to get back on that.

I read somewhere on here or someone's TR a neat little idea about clothes that I "stole" for our trip. I packaged each day's clothes in a gallon ziploc with the day/date clearly marked on the outside (as well as the child's name since I have two boys). Each morning the boys would dig through the drawers of the dresser in our room to find their clothes for the day. This way, I could take an early morning walk or sleep in a little and they still wore the correct clothes!!

Glad to see that dad did a great job dressing him though. My DH probably would not have done as well! :rolleyes1

I have read that before also and am thinking about using it for our next trip:thumbsup2

Sheesh, Guest Services! What's up with that?? Completely ridiculous. I would think they would have a policy in place for times when one customer takes so much attention! :confused3
You are much more patient than I would be.

Other than those fiascos, it sounds like the trip is going pretty well. :thumbsup2 I hope you can find a little Beach Club Magic by the end of your trip even if you never stay there again :rotfl:.

I wonder if the magic wrist bands (I've forgotten the name, ha ha) will eventually include EVERYTHING (like the TIW card and the pool access?). I can see how all the cards and bands get forgotten and that would certainly simplify things.

Can't wait to read more!!
