SWW, BCR & Technically, we were literally on Mars! New - 8/31 - Final Update

Great updates there!! Whew we are zooming right along through your trip!

I feel like we learned so much on this trip about the right way for us to tour the parks. I want to implement those lessons learned into our September trip but it means major changes to the current plans. I feel like I can not even look at September until I get this TR behind me. So I will continue to power through. Hopefully I do not overwhelm anyone with my updates:goodvibes.

Wow, two really wonderful days! Well, other than the card problems (again). Yikes! I feel like maybe I should get lanyards to carry all that stuff out in the open after reading about the problems you kept experiencing. :scared1: And the cell phone too! I think it's time for your lost/forgotten belongings run of bad luck to stop on this trip!

I loved the video of the Hero of Fantasyland! How cool! I bet he loved that experience.

It sounds like you had pretty good luck with fast passes - even with the enforced return times. I'm glad to hear it. I was kind of worried it would be an issue and would result in fewer FPs overall, but it sounds like you were cruising right through ride lines on these days, and were able to FP several attractions. That's great!

The movie looked like a nice relaxing evening. I'm thinking about hitting one of the movie nights at Ft. Wilderness. I'll have to remember to throw a light sweater in our bags, just in case. I can't stand to be cold. That's just miserable. I would have to call it a night also.

Can't wait to read more. I know you've had your share of issues, but it still sounds like an amazing and fun trip!

I agree. I am rethinking how I carry my stuff for our september trip to avoid some of the issues.

I loved the video of the Hero of Fantasyland! How cool! I bet he loved that experience.

He was thrilled. :cloud9:

I think this is where having a touring plan and an app that gives you the FP windows really pays off. Plus having someone (me in our case) who is willing to run back and forth across the park to get FPS. We used them to our full advantage and although the parks were more crowded then I had ever seen them we did not have to pass anything by because of the wait. We actually never waited more than 15 minutes in line for anything our entire trip.

I think I am just used to going in September when it stays pretty warm well into the night. I have learned my lesson May is still definitely sweater weather even in Florida. Having said that I will still be bringing a light jacket for our September trip just in case.

This was our best trip ever:cool1: All the issues we had added together do not over shadow even just one of our pixiedust: moments. It was such a truely amazing trip.

Day 7 – A little bit of EPCOT

This was the first day since our trip started that I was going to be able to sleep in. Normally sleeping in for me means I do not get up until 7:30am. However, on this morning we all managed to sleep until 10am. I cannot tell you the last time I did that but think it may have been before my DS25 was born.

We all woke up hungry so I ran down to the market place to grab us some breakfast. I got Kenny and I the breakfast platter which came with scrambled eggs, hashbrown casserole, bacon or sausage (we both got bacon) and a biscuit. I just got Gabriel an order of scrambled eggs and gave him my biscuit. The breakfast was good but the hashbrowns were a little overwhelming for us.

By the time everyone was fed, showered and dressed it was after noon and neither Kenny nor Gabriel had any desire to leave the room. However, I was determined to ride Soarin that day (honestly how I had already gone 5 days into our trip without riding it was a mystery to me) and had been watching the FP time and knew if we did not head over there soon we would not get them.

So, I talked the boys into walking with me as far as the entry gate. We ticketed through then the boys just gave me their tickets and headed back to the room. I ran over and got FP. When I got to the FP machines the sign said they would be from 5:50-6:50pm which was cutting it kind of close since we had dinner reservations in Japan at 6:30pm. However, I went ahead and got them. There was a little wait so when I finally got my FPs the actual time I got was 6:10pm – 7:10pm which I knew would not work. I asked a CM if there was anything I could do and they told me to ask at the desk where you enter Soarin. I explained my situation to the CM at the desk and she was nice enough to let me trade my FPs for FPs that had a 4:50-5:50pm window pixiedust: .

I headed back to the room then and managed to talk the lazy boys into heading back into EPCOT with me so we could do a few things before our FPs opened. As we were walking over they pointed out the spot where you can go through the small gate and enter BC at the earliest point possible when coming back from EPCOT and told me that they saw a good size snake there when they were walking back earlier  .

I have no memory of what we did for lunch that day but once we were back in EPCOT we worked our way to Mexico and rode something we have never been on before – the Grand Fiesta Tour:

We loved the ride so it has now been added to the must do list. Then Gabriel got a picture with two of our favorites:

Next we rode Journey into Imagination which I love.

DSC03677 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

We always have to spend some time in the imagination area after we see Figment:

Then we went to ride the Seas with Nemo and Friends:

DSC03683 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

After that we explored the aquariums for a while. We lucked out and were up by the dolphins when they started an experiment pixiedust: . I guess they do these a lot but we had never seen one so I was super excited. The experiment consisted of a trainer showing a dolphin a shape then the dolphin had to go to the next window and find the same shape out of three choices that were hanging on that window. If they got it correctly then everyone was allowed to cheer. If they did not guess correctly then you were not supposed to cheer. However, the dolphin got rewarded with food for every try regardless of whether they got it correct or not. They moved the shapes around on the second window after each try to make sure the dolphin did not memorize where each shape was.

DSC03714 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

. by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

Sometimes the shape looked exactly like a shape hanging on the next window and sometimes it was a shape from the next window but at a different angle. I’ll be honest there were several times when the dolphin guessed and I was not sure if he got it correct or not because I could not tell from the original shape which one he was supposed to choose :worried: . However, the dolphin was so smart and got a lot more correct then they were expecting.

Below is a quick video of one of his tries:

This was the Dolphin saying goodbye at the end of the experiment.

After the experiment was complete we went down to spend some time with one of our favorite fellows – Crush. It was not very crowded and Gabriel got selected to talk directly with Crush:

Crush Video

After that we took a few pictures in the picture area right outside of Turtle Talk with Crush:

Then we made our way over to ride my favorite ride in the whole world:

soarin fp by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr
Photo borrowed from the internet

When we got in the FP line the family in front of us asked us if there were three in our party and we said yes. They said then come with us and we walked through the line with them. It turned out that they had a FP for 18 people but only had 15 in their party so they took us through with them pixiedust: So we got to ride my favorite ride twice :cool1:. I explained to the family that included us in their FPs that we referred to their gesture as Pixie Dust and I think it made them feel good to learn that.

By the time we finished our second ride on Soarin it was time to head over to Tappen Edo for our dinner reservations but first we got a couple of Photopass pictures:

I was glad we got this Magic Shot redone without all the face paint.

We arrived for dinner and because we were three we were seated at a table with two other families. One a family of three and the other a family of two.

Dinner was very nice and the chef was entertaining. Gabriel who is a very picky eater(seriously he eats like 5 things) fell in love with the noodles they serve. He ate his, mine and Kennys. I have tried to find them at the local Japaneese Steak houses (we have 4 close to our house) since getting home but no one makes them :( .

The chef did not waste a single part of the onion when he made his volcano:

DSC03765 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

After dinner we headed back to the room for an early night because the next day would be another early morning.
Up next; Our second SWW, a mad dash to sign up for Padawan Mind Challenge, and a major meltdown (and sadly it was not Gabriel).

After that we headed back to the room for a little R&R. Gabriel really wanted to see the movie on the beach that night so we wanted to rest up so we could be down there in time to get a seat. When we got to the room I realized my “Disney” rash was back.

This first appeared during our May 2011 trip after a long day at SWW. I read up on it at that time and it is referred to as Golfers Vasculitis because it is the results of walking long distances. It kind of tingles but does not itch. There is no treatment for it and it is not dangerous. I had it on and off for the rest of the trip but it went away immediately after we got home.

The "Disney Rash"!! I also get this every year. Shows up about 2 days into a trip and last about about a day or two.

Oh....and HI Neighbor! :wave2:

:welcome: Awesome to see someone from my neck of the woods following along.

When I read up on the rash it also said that it typically starts occuring in your 50's. Although I am marching quickly in that direction I am not 50. So I was bummed to find out this was something I was "advanced" at;) .

I think I will. From my experience it is the International gateway EPCOT GS that really needs so help and that is the main one we use.

I'm glad to hear it. Definitely mention the length of time that you spent away from the magic of your vacation and that you hope when you return in September you won't endure similar problems. Time is precious in Disney!

ETA- you should also mention the glitch in your TiW card. If you are the type of person who saves your receipts (and I think you are!), I would scan and attach the receipt for Flame Tree since you should have gotten the discount there, tried, but didn't. $5 is $5. That's a Dole Whip float right there.

That was some great Magic in the MK! Love the Sword and the Stone video and pictures of the Hero!

Yes, we have the Zurg exit picture with my boys when they were 6 and 3, and maybe some others throughout the years. Maybe I will try to recreate next month with the boys 15 and 12! I'll see if the teen will cooperate.

I'm not a fan of Astro Orbitor either. Rode once and felt ill- spinning, heat, insufficient caffeine did not make a good mix. But my DH wants to ride at night, so maybe I will go up with them and snap some pictures. I love the views.

Great pictures from the Little Mermaid ride!

Glad you had a ride on the People Mover. One of our favorites!

Fantastic picture of the 3 of you in front of the castle. I love that vantage point.

I see that you spent some time on the classics- Small World, Peter Pan and Dumbo. Hooray!

Able-bodied people who sit while families or older people are standing bug me too! It amazes me to think how oblivious some people are. Some of it is rudeness, but I actually think that some people don't look beyond their own little bubble. Sad! :sad2:

I agree with your DH- the picture of you and the slushie in front of the French artwork is Tres Chic!

Glad that you were able to get not one but two rides on Soarin! :woohoo: for being in the right place at the right time and for the nice family to include you.

I think I'll keep the info about the snake sentry at the secret entrance/exit to myself. No need to incite panic over on the FAQ thread.

The Monsters Inc topiaries are awesome!

Love the dolphins!

Great pictures in the Seas aquarium space.

I pixie dusted a british couple with FP's for Soarin back in April. I had three but my mother and DD just rode TT with me and my DD was feeling a little nauseous so I had 2 FP's for soarin to give away. The British couple were so happy to get those fast passes. It ended up that we were seated next to each other on the ride and when we looked down at our feet the lady and I both had the exact same pedicure (red polish with white dots). She said "see we were meant to meet and admire each other's perfect toes!".

You probably mentioned it, but what app did you use?

I have a subscription to Touring Plans so I use the lines app. I found it very accurate this past trip.

Having a DS25 and DD21 also I found that they were much more willing to do things at Disney in their teenage years then they were will to do at home. Our rule was always everyone including my DH and I were a kid again the minute we went through the entrance.

I have also only rode once and felt ill so have never had the nerve to try again(same is true for me and the tea cups). I love the idea of riding at night. I bet the pictures from that view would be amazing. I think we are going to have to try that for our September trip.

Great pictures from the Little Mermaid ride!

Glad you had a ride on the People Mover. One of our favorites!

We actually made up for lost time this past trip because we rode it several times. It is a nice was to relax and cool off. I do wish they would make the part where you go through Space Mountain a little more entertaining.

Fantastic picture of the 3 of you in front of the castle. I love that vantage point.

My favorite pictures of us this trip:)

I see that you spent some time on the classics- Small World, Peter Pan and Dumbo. Hooray!

These will always hold a special place in our heart.

I think you are SO right. I even told my DH the same thing. Some people truely don't see past the end of their nose. I do not think there is any place on earth where that is more obvious than Disney.

I agree with your DH- the picture of you and the slushie in front of the French artwork is Tres Chic!

Glad that you were able to get not one but two rides on Soarin! :woohoo: for being in the right place at the right time and for the nice family to include you.

They were alot of fun and it was the first time riding for all of them. I love to ride with first timers because their reaction when the ride is done is always amazement.

I think I'll keep the info about the snake sentry at the secret entrance/exit to myself. No need to incite panic over on the FAQ thread.

With the exception of this TR my lips are sealed;)

The Monsters Inc topiaries are awesome!

I want to go during Flower and Garden so bad but it would require pulling Gabriel out of school just 2 weeks before the school year ends which will never work. I will get there some day.

Love the dolphins!

Great pictures in the Seas aquarium space.

I think watching the Dolphin experiment was one of the highlights of my trip. He did so much better than they expected and it was so amazing to watch.

I love when things work out like that. It makes you realize that those experiences are not random and there is a reason for everything. We always make sure that any FPs that we do not plan to use go to someone else. People are always so appreciative.

Today = Friday May 31st

Day 8– 2nd SWW Day – Part 1

We were up bright and early again today because we wanted to be at DHS by 7:30am. The ride over was uneventful and we got there before they started letting people ticket through. While we waiting, I reminded Kenny of our game plan. I would take Gabriel and head to sign up for Padawan Mind Challenge, he would go get FPs to TSM and we would meet up and ride Star Tours.

I was a little nervous about the mind challenge sign up. They only allow 20 or so kids into each show and there are only two shows per day so that is a total of 40 kids for the whole day. When we ran to sign up for Jedi training earlier in the week we were about 200 people back in the line. So I warned Gabriel that we would try our best but no guarantees. He was fine with that.

We were eventually let through the ticket scanners and again stopped at a rope while they did the SW show. Today they dropped the rope at 7:45am. The minute it dropped Gabriel and I were off. Sign-up for the Padawan Mind challenge was in front of Sounds Dangerous but we had to follow the Jedi training signup crowd to get there. The whole time CMs kept trying to navigate Gabriel and I into the Jedi sign up line and I kept telling them I was going to sign up for Padawan Mind challenge. One CM even told me I was going the wrong way and that they were signing up for Jedi training and Mind Challenge in the same line. I knew he was wrong thank goodness so just ignored him.

When we got to the sign up desk there were already about 30 or so people in line so I started to think we probably would not make it. Then they made an announcement to the line that anyone in line for Jedi training sign up was in the wrong line and needed to head over to Indiana Jones. Everyone but one family left and we were second in line pixiedust: . Gabriel got signed up and we even got to pick which show we wanted to be in. We chose 1:30pm.

We met up with Kenny and rode Star Tours with no wait.

Right after that, we went to get in line for Chewy. It was just 8:10am by that time and Chewy was supposed to come out between 8:15 – 8:30am. We had a nice time chatting with the family in front of us while we waited and Chewy ended up coming out about 8:20am. He did not have an Ewok with him which was a little bit of a bummer to me but we did get a nice picture which Chewy.

Next we headed over to see the Fab 4 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald and Goofy) dressed in their Star Wars costumes. Gabriel and I got in line first and then Kenny waited until he estimated that a 20 minute line had built up behind us and he got in line. We did this to improve our chances of seeing at least 2 of the four. Donald was out when Gabriel and I got up so he got a picture with him:

Photo0129FourBySix by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr

Then Gabriel went to stand in line with Kenny. Donald had just come out right before Gabriel and I got to the front so I started to worry that Kenny was not back far enough in line to have a character change. Sure enough as Kenny got closer it looked more like he was going to get Donald again. So, Kenny started letting people in front of him. There was already one other couple doing that. Kenny let two families ahead of him and then he and the other couple were told they could not move back in line again. Kenny obeyed but the other couple just ignored the CM. When Kenny got to the front and Donald was still out Him and Gabriel just got out of line since we did not need another picture with Donald.

I continued to watch what was going to happen with the other couple that continued to move back in the line. The CM called a manager over to report them and the manager went over to talk to them. The couple continued to move back in the line. At that point, I went over and politely asked the Manager what his advice would be if I wanted to see Mickey. He said I just need to keep getting in line until I was lucky enough to have Mickey out when I got to the front and that although I could not move back in the line I was always welcome to go to the end and start over.

By that point another manager had been called over to talk to the couple that was continuing to move back in the line and they were still refusing to budge. They were going to see Mickey and were not getting out of line. When the second manager came over I explained that we had politely stopped moving back in the line when we were told to but in hindsight I wished I had behaved like the couple that refused to get out of line because it was clear that they were going to get what they wanted by refusing to obey the rules and I was not because I did obey the rules. The manager said there was nothing he could do.

I was really upset at this point and trying to hold it together so I went off to the side to cool off a little. As I was sitting there, I asked Kenny what time our TSM FPs were and he gave me a completely blank stare. He finally admitted that he had gotten Star Tours FPs not TSM FPs first thing that morning and then he handed them to me. Not only had he gotten the wrong FPs but they were already expired! This is when the melt down occurred. We have been going to Disney regularly since 2006 and we have had the exact same plan every morning that we have entered DHS since TSM opened. I take Gabriel to sign up for Jedi Training and Kenny runs to get the TSM FPs. Heck we had already rode Star Tours a ton of times this trip and had never even needed the FPs because the standby line was never long. Let’s just say all this information was communicated to Kenny in a way that I regretted later because it upset Gabriel. Kenny’s response was to grab our APs and run over to TSM to try to get FPs.

At that point the manager that I had been taking to about seeing Mickey came over to me and told me to come with him. At first, I wondered if I was in trouble for screaming at my husband in the middle of Disney :worried:. Thankfully, that was not the case. They were actually taking us back for a private meeting with Mickey and Minnie before they came out to replace Donald pixiedust: . We got our picture and I thanked the manger profusely. He said he understood the point I made about being punished for following the rules which is why he did it.

DSC03776 by Disneyalwaysn4ever, on Flickr
I do not know if Minnie is standing so far away from me because she is striking a Jedi pose or because she was warned about my earlier fit?

After that I remembered that we had the FPs we got when TSM broke down with us on it that were good anytime so I suggested that we walk over to ride that. Gabriel needed a change of subject after mommy’s blow up so I knew that character meet and greets were not the best choice right then. We rode without incident and then decided we needed to find a spot to watch the parade.

We had skipped the parade on our first SWW day because the park was just so packed (it was the day before Memorial Day) so today seemed like our best option. It was about 45 minutes before the scheduled start but already there were very few placed left. Luckily we were able to find one big enough for the three of us but it was directly in the sun so it was a long hot 45 minute wait. This parade only goes from the entrance to the hat so you have no choice but to sit on the main street to see it.

Gabriel loved the parade and got as close and he was going to get to a Ewok that this trip:

This guy was staying at our resort (the Beach Club) along with three other little people. When we first saw them heading to the pool I noticed Gabriel was staring. He had never seen little people before and I worried that he might say something inappropriate so I quickly whispered to him not to say anything at all until we got to the pool. Once we were there I sat him down and explained everything I knew about little people. When my diatribe was complete, Gabriel just looked at me blankly so I asked him if he had any questions I had not answered. His response; Do you think the lady will let me use her scooter?

What I had failed to take into account was the fact that one of the little people was riding what was obviously a custom made scooter. It looked just like the scooters you see adults riding around on at the parks only it was little – Gabriel size to be exact. Gabriel could have cared less that the people were little and honestly did not see them any different than all the other people at the pool with the exception of one very important fact – one of them had a really awesome scooter!

After the parade we headed over to have some lunch at Pizza Planet. Of course I have no pictures but Gabriel and Kenny got pizza and I got a meatball sub. It was all very good. After lunch we decided to brave the character meet and greets again. We got lucky and saw Captain Rex before it was time for us to check in for the Padawan Mind Challenge.

While we were waiting to check in we got to spend a little more time with the Band:

Then we were heading to the hat for the mind challenge. They let the parents of the kids in the show sit right up front so we had really nice seats.

Sadly about 5 minutes into the show it started raining so they wrapped up early. It actually rained for less than 5 minutes but by then they had already closed the show. The good news was that I do not think Gabriel realized he was in a short show and he said he had a lot of fun. He got a little star wars action figure for participating.

Up next; Some more characters, and awesome dinner, and a funny show.
