What can you tell me about this? I just read the blurb on the disneyland website; just wondering if anyone here can tell me more....

(I'm trying to decide what things we should do on our last day, in case you're wondering why all the questions on specifics.) :smickey:

The Sword in the Stone is a five minute show next to the carousel in Fantasyland. The sword display has a walkway that circles it. Merlin comes out and stands on the inside of the walkway against the carousel. He tells the story of King Arthur and then choses from the audience to find a king for the day. The king is given a paper crown, but that is the only benefit of being the king. Merlin always picks an adult to come up first to try to remove the sword from the stone. He then chooses a child who will be able to remove it. It's cute and quick and not usually very crowded. I've never seen people waiting for the show. The crowd usually gathers from the people following Merlin out from the castle.

To illustrate what others have said, this is from a couple of years ago. First an adult was chosen, then a child who was successful at lifting the sword.

Actually, the Crown is "real" (as you can see in the photos)... but they don't get to keep it. There is an actual keepsake that's really pretty cool. If you see a kid walking around the park with a bronze medallion on a purple ribbon around their neck, they were chosen to be the "Temporary Ruler of the Realm."

Very cute. Thanks all for the info. I think we will make sure to pop over to this.

WE had to go FOUR times to this once when my middle DS was little and ALL he wanted to do at DL was pull that sword out of the stone. He finally got picked (after I had a little heart to heart with Merlin about what a big fan he was, etc., etc.). It was WONDERFUL! The medallion they get brings a lot of CM attention for the rest of the day; they all act as though the KING were getting on their ride, and you also get a keepsake certificate to frame and hang that proclaims the child the true king of England.

My son will never forget it...

If the kid pulls it out, can he use that sword over at Jedi ? :cool2:

How do you get picked as a child to pull the sword out of the stone? I have a little girl that is 7 that would love to do this

And another picture..........

My daughter got picked on a visit at well, but I dont have those pictures on the computer. It was a highlight of the trip for both kids. As for how to get your child picked- they need to look interested- jump up and down, wave, etc. My dd got picked when the first child that was picked chickened out and wouldnt go up. Ds got picked because we talked to Merlin for a minute or two before the show and mentioned that big sister had done it before.

Love all the pictures- seems like it might not be too hard to get picked. DD would never get up in front of all those people, though, so we will just have to stand on the sidelines and watch. ;)

All those pics are great. I can only imagine what it would be like to see your child pull that sword out of the stone. What a highlight to the trip.

Thanks for sharing all the pics - they are really cute! :cutie:

I really want to see this show because in all my visits to WDW, I'd never seen it and they don't do the show there anymore. :sad1: If DD6 were picked, well that would just be the icing on the sword!
