This is going to sound like such a newbie question but here we go.

Next year going on a trip with the family. Going to book the whole thing at my home resort SSR 11 months out and hoping to switch the first half of my trip to AKV at the 7 month mark. Should I separate the SSR part I hope to cancel from the part I hope to keep or will I be able to remove the beginning days of my reservation, essentially modifying my reservation without canceling the whole thing?

I know, I should know this but I just want to be sure I don't screw it up! :)

They allow you to remove days from the beginning or end of reservation and still keep remainder, so you can reserve SSR as one reservation at 11 months out and switch part at beginning at 7.

I am a newbie DVC member (still waiting take our first DVC trip) and I had not ever thought about doing this. Thanks for the idea.

As pp said you can make the entire reservation and then just drop the selected days. You will have to contact MS for assistance. If however, you make two reservations with one having the days you want to switch and the other the days you want to keep then you will be able to make the change online without having to call MS. Simply cancel the reservation with the days to switch and create a new one at AKV.

If for some reason AKV isn't available then just keep the two reservations but remember to link them so that you don't potentially have to change rooms at SSR mid-trip.

I was going to say the same thing as OldGrizzly. You have the advantage if you book online with two reservations. You can get ahead of those needing to call MS by an hour by doing this online. Griz is a smart old bear.

Thanks all! Since I am looking at booking more than one room, I will probably call MS but the idea of doing it on line with two separate reservations is appealing...Gonna have to chew on that one!

Again, appreciate the input, I had a freak out moment and wanted confirmation from folks wiser than I that I was thinking clearly!!

I thought if you made two adjoining reservations at the same resort / room type / view, that the two reservations would be merged. This was implemented to prevent segmenting your stay in order to have seperate dining plans.

If they do merge the two reservations into one, you can still call in at the 7 month mark and have the begining part of the stay moved to another resort. (or at least waitlist for it)
