For years I have been with our local phone company which WAS SNET and which now is a national phone company SBC. I was offered a package with the same service and options and a savings of $35 per month for switching to COX which is our cable service provider. Has anyone made this switch and have they been satisfied. I have switched long distance several times to get "miles" but I have exhausted that option so now I am into saving money.

I was going to switch to phone service through our cable provider, but after speaking to them I found out that if the power went out I would not have the use of the phone. I would have had to keep a regular phone company service to avoid the problem so in the long run I don't think I would have saved much.
I'm trying to figure out the best way to go now. Looking at AT&T for local and long distance but I am still undecided. Also trying to get info on IDT.

I just called Cox Cable and they assured me that the phone does not go out if the electricity is interupted unless of course you only have cordless phones. If you have a corded phone, it should never be a problem. I am glad you brought this up because I wouldn't have thought to ask.

I have my phone service through my cable company, and absolutely love it. I've saved a ton of money with it, and have been in more frequent contact with friends and family because of it. (I'm assuming your cable company is offering the same deal, all LD charges included in the monthly fee). I would be hard-pressed to go back to a service that charged per minute for long distance. I love not having to think about it.

Dawn, I've switched long distance carriers several times as well for the miles, but never heard of exhausting this option. How many times did you switch before they said enough is enough?

Yup, that's the plan and it is significantly cheaper than the phone company that I have had forever.

I could still switch back and forth but no one is offering the 1000 miles per month for five months anymore which is attractive. Otherwise, 5 miles per dollar isn't worth the extra money that I could save going cable.

I don't know which miles you collect, but AT&T still offers 5,000 Delta miles for switching.
