Switching ADRs from 5 to 6 people

Ok, I have booked the perfect ADR times for our family of 5 months ago. It now turns out that we may be taking a niece which would bump it to 6.

Here are my questions:

1. Will going from 5 to 6 people cause my present ADRs for 5 people to be cancelled. In other words, can 6 people fit at a 5 person table, or will I have to obtain new ADRs? (I would assume that it would be a problem going from a 4 person table to 5 people, but I am hoping that going from a 5 person table to a 6 people is not a problem)

2. Is it better not to call and mess with changing a week worth of ADRs, and just tell the hostess when we show up at the restaurant that we are 6 instead of 5?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Jenn

My understanding, and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, is that adding an extra person will demand a new reservation. You might just need to be flexible and make some changes.

My advice...call WDW dining and be upfront with your situation. The last thing I would do is show up at restaurants with an extra person and take the gamble of being turned away. Besides upsetting their system, it will cause you undue stress during what is suppose to be a happy vacation.

This also just happened to me- a party of 9 turned into 10. We had to cancel 2 ADRs and get new numbers, one we just changed the number of people and one we could not change at all!! And of course it is the Coral Reef, where everyone wnats to eat. I guess my dad can eat somewhere alone in Epcot that night. I have been calling everyday to see if there has been a cancellation- I guess not since free dining. I think we may just show up and try to get 10 seated.

I think they should just be able to add her to your existing reservation. I think it will be easy going from 5 to 6, because most tables hold even numbers. Your reservations are probably already for tables of 6, so it shouldn't be too hard just to add the additional name on.

I would call and change the ADR's. A ressie for five people might be actually sitting at a table technically designed for four with an extra charge pulled up. Seating might be cozier but still doable. Adding two extra seats to a table designed for four can become a problem. If you show up with an extra person and they sit you at a differently designed table you could be causing another diner to have to delay their mealtime. Just my two cents.
