Switch rooms 1st or last night?

have a 4 night stay booked at BLT studio with my wife and 2 kids (almost 3 and just over 1). My wife wants to add a day, but there are no standard view studios available (and not holding my breath that my waitlist will come through). I'm thinking 3 options

1. Book lake view room to extend 1 day
2. Book value resort 1st night, then do 4 nights at BLT
3. Book value for extended night at end

I was thinking that going to a value last night might be the best option for the fact I should be able to check in to a room by 1pm so the kids can nap.


I am unable to change resorts for the whole trip because my in laws are staying at BLT for 3 nights, they rented points from Davids and my understanding is they can't modify it in anyway

We've done split stays, and I prefer booking the single night at the beginning. You can pack a small bag with what you'll need for the first night only, leaving most of your luggage packed for the rest of the stay. When you tack on that night at the end, you have to pack everything (things tend to spread around when you're there for more than a day) and move for only 1 night and then pack everything all over again.

Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip!

ETA: If you don't have move resorts, all the better. If you do need to move resorts, bell services will transfer your luggage from one resort to the next.

I agree with pklein09, packing what you need for that first night will be easier.! Then you can get settled.

I agree with the previous posters. It's less disruptive to have that extra night at the start of the trip. When we've done one night at a different resort, I pack the things I need for that first night on top so I don't have to go digging in my suitcase for anything. It makes it very easy to pack up again the next morning. When we get to the next resort, we fully unpack and settle in.

Agree with above posters. Different reservation the first night (BLT different view if you can swing it), then settle into your confirmed BLT reservation for the rest of your trip.

I've found that when I've tacked on a room to the end of a stay, that when the time comes, I don't want to stay anymore because it suddenly becomes a load of work!

Start with a night in the beginning if possible.

Another vote for doing your one night at the beginning, especially if you are going to book a value for that one night. We added on to a trip last November just to see Osbourne lights one last time and went from WL to POFQ, and it seemed like a huge downgrade to us (and we really Love POFQ). Either way I hope you have a great trip !

We have split stay many times and have always done so at start of trip. Most times we stay at a value, every once in a while we stay at Coronado Springs if they have a good AP rate. Pack a small bag with just the things you need for that night/next day. Then when you head to your permanent stay resort, get there early so you have a better chance of getting a room you want. This way at end of trip, you aren't dreading the move.

I'd do same resort different room type and wait list the standard to replace the other reservation ending 7 days out. Then stalk the website. You'll end up with a few holding account points but that's better than changing villas IMO.

You can do the checkin process for any onsite resort after about 6am. But you are unlikely to get a room until after official checkin time (3 for normal resorts, 4 for dvc I believe) anywhere. I would NOT count on that nap time.

I've checked in as early as 4:30 am, once they've changed the computer over for the day, you're all set. That normally happens by or before 5:30 from what I've been told.

I do split stays often, and the first day is the best one to stand alone. I sometimes do a Value and then head over to my DVC room the next morning.

Always the beginning! We add the qs dining to that one night stay then use the mugs for the second resort too.

I would look for 2 nights in a different DVC unit maybe an EPCOT resort or AK, split stay of 2 + 3 might not be so bad. Also look at WL, a short boat ride to MK.
