Switch Rapid Antigen travel to US question

For those interested in the Switch RT-LAMP test, they are back in stock this morning. Just ordered 5. Max per order is 4, but I was able to do multiple orders (we are a family of 5).

I was on their mailing list too, but after reading all those stories about the tests not working, I'm on the fence :confused3

thank you. Just ordered ours

I’m on the fence too. But maybe I will have a backup in place in case they don’t work? Then go after them to get my money back?

Just ordered the antigen and the lamp tests to use for our trip. I’m nervous by some of the reports of defective tests, but I will have a backup plan in case we run into that.

It will be so much easier not having to go anywhere.

We debated the tests this morning but ultimately decided to try the free options first. I was more on the “let’s buy” side but as you all know, it’s still a lot of money for five of us.

If CVS or Walgreens don’t pan out there are quite a few paid options in the area that do them as well ( walk in clinics mostly ). We have a car and we are comfortable driving in the area.

On the subject of antigen tests, all the kids in Ontario are supposed to be able to bring five home to use over the Xmas break . I don’t think they are proctored but I think we will definitely bring them along and use them for peace of mind part way trough the trip.

Can you share the link to the stories about the tests not working? I hadn’t heard that before, and now I’m worried.

Yeah they can’t be used for travel. But we plan on using them after we get home from our trip (unless they mandate arrival testing for the US).

We took the plunge and bought them, but I plan on trying the free options first as well, and then having these as a fallback if they don’t pan out (as results are supposedly provided in 45 minutes, we can try the pharmacies first and then test close to departure if they don’t come through). We also have a Plan C as rapid PCR testing is available across the street from Aulani with results in 15 minutes (for a price).

I’m also concerned that the US might move from antigen to PCR (zero basis, just me being paranoid) so I like the idea of having them on hand.

I bought them because they are cheaper then the paid options in Orlando. And I just don’t feel like dealing with the stress of the free options (either BeeperMD not showing up, or the hassle of getting an appointment at Walgreens and needing to Uber etc). Figured just so much easier to do it at the resort.

If we have bad luck and the tests don’t work we will go to one of the rapid test places that you pay for. Then I will just work at getting my money back for these.

Also with these tests we have more flexibility with when we do the tests. So it’s not a big deal if requirements change.

Same, we'll probably order the tests and book Walgreens as a backup

Do we know if the tests have any expiry date? I seem to remember reading about that somewhere, maybe on the Facebook page?

I read that they are good for a year? But I don’t remember where I read that.

They do and some on Twitter were very angry that they were sent tests from the last batch that expire Jan 2022….

Thanks, we'll take our chances and wait to order them then...

Hopefully they'll be in stock in Jan/Feb before our departure! 🤞

What are the free options near Aulani for return to Canada? Just CVS and Walgreens? And what about the plan C rapid testing across the street from Aulani from Aulani - what is the location/company and what is the price? Thanks!

Just CVS and Walgreens, and I have no idea if they work. The place across the street is called Urgent Care Hawaii. Tiny operation tucked in behind the Tommy Bahama shop in the same mall as Monkeypod, Starbucks etc. . Walk-ins only. When I was there in October, their computer system went down the morning I went for testing. Rather than wait for them to sort it out, I went to Diagnostic Labs kn Kapolei and had it done there.

re: Switch Health tests not working, I can only speak from our experience and all went off without a hitch. A wonderful, easy, stress-free, in-home/hotel, speedy option. I see the posted Twitter thread about test kits with expiry dates in early 2022 but, that doesn't mean they don't work. Are there truly a lot of reports of them not working? That would be worrisome, for sure but, as I said, speak as I found - they were perfect for us.
