HELP! I have been endlessly debating switching to a mod. Any thoughts on this?

Thanks,

Joanne

We just did. Since they released more rooms to the free dining plan package, we were able to change from Pop Century to POFQ. The difference was only $381 for a 6-night stay. :)

we wanted to stay at POP since we had never been there before so we stayed there then we transferred to Coronado and we loved it there too. if you don't mind packing up it's a great way to get to see two resorts! Disney transferred our luggage for us while we were at the parks and it was in our room when we checked in that afternoon!

DMM-I know they are both different, but which would you say you liked more POP or Coronado?

Joanne

If youre going to be spending time at the resort and the resort pool i would highly reccomend switching to a mod. Value pools dont have slides etc and mods do!

We were originally booked at POP then decided to switch to CSR, I am so excited to stay Moderate. I figured we will be staying value in the future with the free dining why not splurge for Moderate :sunny:

Joanne>> How many of you will be staying in the room? Honestly, with only two of us I think we preferred POP knowing we were saving a lot of money and it was just too darn cute! We did enjoy CSR, but that was two adults, one giant kid. DS and I regretted one of our mod stays this year, wishing we'd stayed at Pop.

Good luck in your decision!
Debbie

JMCROSS: We loved both for different reasons, we are going back to POP in October because we have an infant that would LOVE the giant sculptures and we love the food court there. Didn't like the food selection too much at Coronado. BUTTTTT we spent a HUUUGE amount of time in the MAYAN Temple pool it has a great slide! i liked that it had a marina for boat rentals and we rented a surrey bike there too! we really had a blast! we like the gift shop better at POP too.

If you go during a low convention time i would easily choose coronado just for the ambiance we also spent many hours in a shared hammock counting the stars (wow, that was soooo before our DD and baby to be!!) and it was great having a SPA onsite.

POP was sooo much fun though!
and we leared how to do the hustle! hahaha...

so i'm divided! :)

I think it comes down to how much time you will be at the room/pool. We don't spend a lot of time there so the last few times we stayed at a mod and I feel like we could have saved a lot of money. The room was nice and all but we didn't use the pool and spent most of our time at the parks, DTD, eating at other resorts. It wasn't worth it to us to spend that extra this year. We are going to Pop for the first time and I can't wait - only 2 more days!!! :cool1:

I've stayed at all levels. I believe that if you are going to be using the resort amenities stay at the highest level you can afford. If you are going to use the pool a bit, but really do parks a bunch the budget are best because they really meet your needs. This last vacation for example I had booked POR for two weekends-DVC during the week-POR switched me one weekend to PORFQ since they were over booked ( I booked back in March). We drove so we decided to stay one extra night and ASSp was the only thing available--we had a better bus, food court and friendlier CM's than at the mods. Mod pools are much nicer since they have the slides and better theming, but if your not going to use them much why pay extra. You can get extra pool towels at values just by stopping at the front desk and asking.

It comes down to what your vacation budget can handle and what are you looking for from your resort. If you can afford to stay at a Mod without having to cut things elswhere then go for it. If not you need to figure out what is important to your traveling party and then take it from there.

We just got back. We stayed for 18 days with the first two nights being at POP. I must stay I DID NOT like it there and will not go back. We have been going to disney for 11 years so we are disney freaks and I will tell you as a disney freak I would forego a trip to disney before I went back there... thats how much I didnt like it. You can hear a sneeze through the walls. We stayed in the 90's bldg. We were close to buses and food court but I wouldnt go back. We heard toilets flushing all the time and I must say they were like industrial toilets that if you didnt hold on you'd be sucked in and flushed away. So imagine hearing that all the time. It was way crowded and the food court needs to be about double its size to hold everyone.. We spent the rest of the vaca at CBR and we just loved it. We stayed in Jamaica bldg 44. Great location. HTH

Wow! Thanks for all of the replies!

I really want to switch to either POR or POFQ. My only concern here is the amount of time it takes for transportation to the parks. The UG lists 12 minutes give or take to AKL & MGM and 16 minutes to MK. We usually take afternoon breaks so this seems like a lot of time in transportation daily.

Any thoughts on this new twist to my issue?

Thanks,

Joanne

We have stayed at Pop and POR and much preferred POR. Not that we didn't love Pop and wouldn't stay there again, but for us POR felt like a more relaxed place to hang out. We loved the grounds especially and enjoyed the pool. We stayed at Pop in a very off season and it felt immensely crowded. I know that during the week we were there they were no where near sold out but the place felt packed. Food court was a nightmare. POR was 98% sold out our entire 6 night stay but you would have never known it. It is so spread out. Also due to the closeness and boat to DTD a lot of people eat over there instead of the food court. We enjoyed having several meals in the POR food court and did not ever find it crowded. As far as buses, I didn't notice any difference in bus service between POR and Pop. I know POR shares a bus sometimes with POFQ but it was never a problem with us. For us if we can save a bunch of money we go with a value. If it isn't go to be that big of a difference the moderate is so worth it. Both resorts are a lot of fun and you can't go wrong! Go with what your instinct and your budget tells you to do!

A & D~Thanks for the info!

Did the bus ride from POR to the parks take a long time?

Thanks,

Joanne

I thought the bus ride from POR to the parks was fine. I would say it took maybe 15 minutes at most to get from POR to MK. We always drove to AK and it was maybe 10 minutes to Epcot and MGM (although we almost always drove to those parks as well). I found the bus ride times about the same at Pop. POR and Pop are both in good central locations which is nice. We generally find ourselves taking our car to most of the parks but never to MK. It is easier to take the bus because then you skip the step of parking at the TTC and then taking the monorail or boat to MK.
