Swine flu jab question-post 13

does it? What if the virus were to mutate? Everyone I have spoken to regarding this has said that you would need to have a new jab every year?

My understanding was that it is life long for this strain but if it mutates then you will need another vaccine

Yes, I would have thought so, that is true of all flu strains I suppose.

I think it will probably mutate though.

Must say that both of our kids were called for it while we were in WDW, they missed their appointments and I won't be rebooking them, I don't feel that anyone is able to give us enough information about it, and I don't feel, in my heart of hearts that I want them to have it.

From what i've read the swine flu vaccine has not been tested on under 3's, most trials have been on children that its been given to in the past few months so any results/complications will be ongoing.

We haven't decided yet what to do. We don't want to vaccinate our 2 year old but our doctor scared us last week saying a healthy 2 year old in Sussex had died a couple of weeks ago. We felt a lot of pressure to sign her up for it but won't' make a final decision until we research it more.

I do think however that this swine flu 'pandemic' has been blown out of proportion and that many many people have been prescribed tamiflu which is a terrible drug - even my doctor agreed to that - from just a phone call to a call centre. I saw what it did to my sister last year So I guess my mistrust and hesitation over this vaccine is somewhat coloured by what we've experienced over the last year.

DD has hers on Friday and was poorly on the Saturday with a high temp and sore arm and slept most of the day. She is now fine, so I was worried about nothing really.

I'm glad she's had hers now as shes covered till the virus mutates, me on the other hand.....
