Swine Flu - General Discussion and how it affects Disney

That's not necessarily the case.

The various reports I've read indicated the vaccine being ready in 3-6 months. But even if it wasn't ready, someone pushing their trip out to November will certainly know more about this situation than we do now.

The extra cleaning does make me FEEL better. Like I am actually DOING something rather than just watching the news and becoming worried. ALL of the moms hear KNOW what I am talking about

I agree my spring cleaning at least makes me feel better & that is worth something :rotfl2:I think clorox clean up is the best invention out there for moms.

I hope everyone has a safe trip & just be extra cautious!

I'm going slightly off topic here, but there seem to be a LOT of people going to WDW. So, I must ask, what happened to the so-called bad economy? WE have made dozens of day trips since the first of the year, and there people, people, people, everywhere on property. I guess the economy is better............:sad2::confused3

It does make you feel better! Its being proactive ~ doing something instead of sitting there worrying.

I am one of those when I am good and ticked off you know it as my house sparkles :rotfl2:

When the house is extra clean when DH comes home he is usually REALLY quiet and doesn't make any sudden moves :rotfl2:

i spoke with disney as well. think it might depend on who you talk to. i was told yes we can cancel and rebook for a later time as long as the 4/3 deal was available for the time we wanted to reschedule for and available rooms if you already booked the deal and no cancellation fees.
i did not speak with a manager/supervisor but i'm pretty sure it will probably come to that for some people to get the right answer.

I was calling to add the DDP and asked I dont know if it was wrong or right. But the lady sounded surprised when she asked why and I told her about my worries of the swine flu.Her words were "Theres no need to worry there has been no reported cases here or in florida for that matter"Either way I would think Disney would send everybody that works for them a memo about canceling or rebooking during this time because obviously theres going to be calls.

I think the 4/3 promotion has been the draw and made affordable.

Personally, I plan on wearing a meat helmet made of nothing but 1" thick pork chops, not washing my hands for the entire duration of the trip. . .

just to cheat death. . .

I'm going to lick the sword and the stone statue. . . especially the handle!!!

Then I will taunt death, announce my room number and scream "COME AND GET ME, IF YOU DARE!!!!" :rotfl:

*the following message was a pun. I do not endorse pork chop helmets, crusty hands or the licking of iconic statues in Walt Disney World*

Well, I went to Publix tonight to pick up a few things. While there, I took a look at the Purell area. Not a single bottle available. They said on the local news last night that Walgreens was totally out and also out of the N95 masks. So, I guess hand washing will have to do for me.

But, I'm a rebel. I went to subway and ordered a ham sandwich for dinner. I'm not letting any pig get the better of me! :goodvibes

There will probably be a vaccine available by then.

It's not a vaccine I'd be willing to take anytime soon. Vaccines need long periods of testing before being approved for use. There is no way I'd be willing to take a vaccine that only took a few months to create and approve.

I'm not a non-vaxer either. My kids are vaxed on schedule. They get seasonal flu shots. I'm not willing to give them any vaxes that haven't been properly tested though--it just can't be done in a matter of months, IMO.

I'd hate to see a repeat of 1976 when they thought the swine flu was going to be a pandemic. The vaccine that they whipped up ended up causing more damage than the swine flu did!

The reports I have been seeing on CNN and Fox News have seemed more positive compared to the last 24 hours....I don't know what to think anymore, I guess I am just going to take it day by day and see what happens

Dr. Gupta said he would still go on planes and vacations....

I read of people asking mousekeeping to not service their rooms, has anyone done this, is this even possible?

Also what precautions will you do as far as sanitizing your hotel room? Will you bring anything special?

<GASP>
Peggy I didn't know you had it in you~ You are a true rebel :rotfl2:

We are planning on arriving at WDW on May 25th. It would be ok if those that are worried would stay home, especially if you are planning on going on or around May 25th. We would not think less of you. Thanks

Hehehe!!! We arrive the 22nd! Too funny!

Maroo reminded me of something in a PM and I wanted to share.

You trust the govenment? You think they will help/notify you when you need to worry?

NOT ME... I went through Katrina first hand. After that I have lost all faith in EOC's and the likes.

DO not EVER wait for the country to come in and save you or your family or protect you. That is the biggest lesson I learned. Sure years later we got help BUT had you been here that first month ~~~~ OMG it was BAD.

I swear, this whole thing is really p***ing me off! Not to be a broken record here, but this hysteria is assinine. The ignorance people are showing buying into the media hype over this makes me realise how the subprime mortgage crisis happened: clueless people will believe anything people tell them.
Sure, you make $54,000 a year, you can afford a $450,000 house! Swine flu is coming! Get your Purell and facemasks!

People...you literally have a better chance of getting in a car accident than you do of contracting swine flu. Plus, you don't live in Mexico. Even in our most lax states, our air quality, nutrition and medical care are like 300% better than the best parts of Mexico. This is NOT 1778....calm down! Unless you're living in a dirty house with 6 other families and eating crappy food, you have a 98% chance of staying healthy.

Ohh...I also don't care if I get flamed for my comments on Mexico. Remember the tainted tomatoes of 2008? Who gave them to us? Mexico! Salmonella spinach? Mexico! Thank you to all the greedy companies who fled to get cheap labor in Mexico and China...what did we get in addition to unemployment? Tainted food, tainted pet food, tainted baby formula, lead-filled toys. Everybody is so worried about being "politically correct" (the Dems) or offending voters (Dems and Republicans) or using hysteria to divide the masses (Republicans) that nobody is doing anything to protect Americans from this sub-par crap that is making our babies, pets and elderly sick. Look how long it took to name Mexico as the source of tainted tomatoes! Mattel actually APOLOGIZED to China when Mattel found lead in their toys. People, instead of being worried about if you're going to get sick at WDW or if the gay guy will win on Idol, lets start putting our religious and political differences aside and stand together against these corporations that are sacrificing OUR HEALTH to wring out more profit!:headache:

Oh, thank you. But no thanks. We like to live life on the edge and will be there as scheduled May 24 - 31. :lmao::rolleyes:;)
