Ok, what is with the skimpy bathing suit bottoms this year?! I have been searching high and low for skirted bottoms like DD9 likes with very little success. She (and I) like skirted bottoms for a couple of reasons. One is modesty. She just doesn't like hanging out in a bottom smaller than her undies. Two is that skirted bottoms tend to be cut a little fuller, hence fewer wedgies. (Our street is 7 boys ages 8-10 and DD, so she doesn't want her backside hanging out in the pool!)

Can anyone help me? I've exhausted Target and WalMart (got one sorkable suit at each), have looked online at Gap, Old Navy, Children's Place. Found nice bottoms at Land's End, but $40+ for a bathing suit for a quickly growing girl isn't in my budget.

We live in FL, so a wardrobe of suits is a necessity. We had tons of 7/8/Mediums, but she wore them out last year and we're moving into the 10s anyway.

Any help would be sooooooooo appreciated!!

TIA!

We got one at Kohls for DD, it is a one piece with a separate skirt. (brown and aqua) She is the same way this year, very modest. She wanted a skirted suit, DH hates them!! I bought the Chaps one at Kohls, pink tankini top and skirt bottom, I guess he'll get over it.

Last year the Disney Store had so many cute suits that were two pieces with the skirt bottoms. This year, it is very hard to find. My DD, 8, no longer wants characters, so I got her some nice suits from Lands End. They are made really well, and cover a lot.

I agree with Gymboree. They do run a little big but you can return it to the store if it doesn't fit. Also Landsend overstock is good as well but they run small. You can return those at Sears.

I don't know if you have a JC Penny around you, but I would try there. I won't let my DD 13 wear those skippy bottoms either and Penny's is the only place I have found either the skirts ot the boy type bottoms.

I recently got my dd (9) a one piece. She LOVES it. Her belly's covered and she doesn't feel so exposed anymore.

She also surfs & likes to wear boardshorts.

Boy short swim suit might be good too, covers the behind pretty good.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies. I just went to Kohl's website and ordered five suits--two with swim skirts, three boy short-type bottoms. Have to do two-piece. Forgot to mention that DD is very tall, but evenly spaced--long legs and long torso. One pieces often cause the dreaded wedgie.

I had to laugh at coolbeans. My DH would put DD in a dress down to her ankles to swim in given his wishes. Luckily, she's not into the true bikini bottoms--DH would have a fit!

I hear you Tink. Those Disney store bathing suits from last year and the year before were AWESOME! We got so many compliments on them~! I think DD would resist princesses or Tink now though... Wish they would make more subtle clothing for the "tween" set.

Thanks again--can't wait til they arrive!!

Kohls had a lot of suits for the bigger girls, not so much for the little ones (mine is a size 4). It's good you found some nice things!

My DD is going through a stage where she only wants to wear handsome clothes, so I will let her wear board shorts, and boy suit bottoms with girl tops. I hope she will want to wear the adorable Disney suits I got on clearance last year, but I'm not going to push it.

We found our 9 year olds at SEARS...... it was a little more than I would have liked ($26 or so on sale) but she really liked how it fit and looked........ It is a tank style top and has reg. bottems that fit her like her panties, it also has a pair of shorts which is what she really liked about it! She can't wait to wear it at DISNEY!!

my DD is 10 and this is the first year we have ever had problems finding her a suit.

My DM took her to Marshalls today and found 2 really cute ones. They are one piece with a little skirt and the best part is that they were marked Last Years so they were only $6.00 each!
