Swimming question for males

I am just back from a great long weekend in DLP, staying at Hotel New York which I can highly recommend. During my trip, I meant to get a chance to swim but didn't quite fit it in. Looking at another non-disney website/forum I was reading that it is not permitted for guys to wear boardshorts/long swim shorts in public pools in France(?). Is this really correct?? I ask because these are the only kind of swimming shorts I would wear. I am not confident enough to wear the speedo briefs, or really short legged trunks.
I have boardshorts with lining, so it's not as if I'd be wearing shorts without this; and even in the US, when guys do wear liner-less boardpants they commonly wear a pair of boxers underneath.
:upsidedow

DBF wore swim shorts to the Hotel New York Hotel and nobody said anything to him, so I would assume it is okay.:confused3

My DH wore swim shorts when we were there and nothing got said. I think they should put a stop to speedos - unless it's Colin Jackson :rotfl2:

My DH wore his board shorts in The Explorers and Holiday Inn. I think there would be more chance of him being thrown out if he was in speedos:rotfl2:

My dad and brother in law have both worn swim shorts rather then speedos and the hotel was fine with that. We were staying in the HNY at the time too. Lots of guys were wearing them too.

General municipal pools in France DO have a no loose shorts type swimwear rule. I guess the holiday resort pools round Disney are not counted in this.

We regularly go to the area round Angouleme (further south) and this rule is STRICTLY enforced there - speedos or those tight shorts (like Daniel Craig wore as Bond - mmmmm!) are the only types allowed. You can usually buy or (yeeuuuuggghhhhhh :crazy2: ) borrow!?! a pair if needed. I haven't heard of this rule being for privately run pools though, just municipal ones.

Cheers,
Tessa

I do know that when we stopped at the Newport Bay that the hotel information in the room did say that swim shorts could not be worn in the hotel pool. But we did not go swimming so the problem did not arise.

But it sounds that even if this rule is written down it is not fully enforced.....

I agree with the majoraty, there should be a rule against wearing speedo's (unless you are Daniel Craig):rotfl:
Now i know that men have to wear them in public swimming pools in france,i would seriously consider not going swimming in france:laughing:
At least it sounds like all the Disney swimming pools are free from this crazy rule!;)

My DH wore swim shorts at the Explorers.

I can't imagine him wearing speedos! :scared1: :scared1:

so..... does anyone find it interesting that the thread title is 'question for the males' and only females have replied? :rolleyes1

another 'no speedo' vote here

I swam at both Sequoia Lodge and Newport Bay Club with short style swimsuit and nobody said anything.

speedos should be illegal! unless covered by board shorts up to the knee! :rotfl:

I've worn shorts every time I've swam at the Sequoia and never had any problems.

I think I'd look mighty fine in a pair of speedos thank you very much, if by mighty fine you mean terrible and a crime against nature :chewy:

OK here is a male reply! ;)

I have been in the pools of SL, NPBC and DLH and I always have worn Speedos! And I never had a problem! :rotfl:

But I have to say I am German. And until 8 years ago no one had worn shorts at a swimming pool or at an open air bath (lido) here in Germany. Every male and every boy (even a three-year-old!) was using Speedos! But then we took over the American way and almost every male used shorts. But since last summer this trend is changing backwards.(maybe because of Daniel Craig?) More and more men (and boys) are using Speedos again! I could never imagine going to a (Disney)swimming pool with shorts! Or even more worse – Shorts with boxers underneath!
And by the way: Three years ago I bought myself a very sexy DLRP Speedo at the NPBC shop! And I have never worn anything else again since then. It is black and on the right front side is Mickey!

Mickey speedos:rotfl:
:lmao: :rotfl2:
that's fantastic!

I'm thinking perhaps, some photographic evidence might be in order here to help me decide.:lmao:

I've yet to visit the pool - it's definatley on my list of todo's and I shall report back my findings (if I don't get arrested that is).:rotfl2:
