Just wondering...
Anyone have an idea how much a fairly small sized pool (inground) costs?? I have seen the 'Florida type' that are pre-formed with a spa at the end abd am toying with the idea!

My uncle just had a small teardrop shaped pool put in that was 15 feet by 10 feet and it cost them 25K to do it and it is by no means a great pool or very large at that.

If you are truly considering the installation of a pool at home (and who wouldn't, in this heat?) don't forget to take into consideration the possibility of an increase in your insurance premiums. A pool is considered a significant liability issue by insurance companies.

Hi,
Last year we had an inground swimming pool put in- 16X32. There were tons of extras that you could get to add on a lot of money- but we just wanted a basic 16 X32. We did have stairs put in the shallow end as an "extra" and a slide. Other than that- no real extras. Ours was about $27,000. The gas pool heater was on top of that- my husband is in that business so he ran his own gas line and bought the heater. We love our pool- but if you are considering it, I would difinitely pay the extra for a heater. Then you can enjoy the pool for more weeks! We opened ours in early May- and last year we had a family gathering in October on Thanksgiving and the kids were in the pool. We closed it after Thanksgiving. The heater helps for summers like last summer where it was not so hot.
But, we had quotes from $25,000 right up to $60,000 depending on if you want a concrete pool or fiberglass- then there are salt water pools and zillions of real options....I guess it really just depends on what you want.
By the way, the other poster was correct about checking your insurance rates. Our monthly home insurance rates more than doubled and we were informed that had we put in a diving board the rates would have been even higher!

We priced a pool upon returning home from our vacation in Florida at a pool home. We loved it so much, as did our oldest dd (the youngest was too sick to care). We were told an average of $35,000 is what people spend around here to put in an "average" pool. I was shocked at the price actually. This ended my dream of a pool in the near future!!! Other things to pay off first and then we need to finish the basement. I will be retired before it happens !!

If that price range is too high (it is for me--3 months use per year!) you should consider an above ground pool. We put one in five years ago and it is fabulous! It is oval shaped, 18 x 33 feet, and 52" deep (great for us) and we put a deck around half. The price is considerably less, around $6000 for the pool, and whatever you want to spend on the deck. It is soooo convenient on the hot days and it didn't take too much from the Disney World budget!

I second the above ground pool. I almost bought a very basic model last summer - round, 24 inches, filter and accessoried included for $2,400. I think you can also buy a heater for the above ground pools.

Actually, when we purchased this house....it already had an above ground pool! We removed it....cannot put another in it's place now, hubby would kill me!

I guess we'll just have to go to Disney more!!

As Laurajean said above, in the NE area, pools are hugely expensive so these blowup pools have become very popular. LOL, we've had ours for 4 years and I just want to report it's not a big deal to put it away - just let the air out of the ring, empty the water, fold it, tie it up and put it away. (Set up's even easier).

I also understand that the annual operating costs of an inground pool, including the cost of heating it, can run thousands or dollars per year. Can anyone post their annual operating costs?

My best friend just put in a 18x40 inground and told me the price with concrete, fencing, gas heater, shed, and new patio furniture (necessary!)
was $47,000 and we live in southern ontario. That does not include the cost of removing trees and other landscaping. Uggh! I can go to WDW about 10-15 times for that money!

We have an easy set pool also. I think we paid $250 for it. it is 15' round and 42" deep. it is a Godsend, especially with all the humidity.

We had a standard 20X40 inground vinyl installed 2 years ago for 20k. My electric bill went up about $40.00 with no heater, just the pump. We had a well dug for irrigation and filling the pool. I think it was 1200. We start using our pool last week of April (water is still cold) and use it until sometime in September. DH keeps pool swim ready year round though, we do not cover it, I will not have a science experiment growing in the backyard with my allergies!
