Swimming in December?

Hi--if we go to Disneyworld third week of December, will we be using the pool or will it be too cold? Thanks.

The pools are temp controled. So they are always the same temp. You will be able to swim comfortably (we did last December, even with people looking at us like we were freaks) Its the getting out of the water in 50 degree weather that was a bit rough.

I agree that the pool is always nice since it is heated. Sometimes the outside temp in Dec. is very warm, sometimes it isn't. We always went swimming anyway. If you are from a cold climate you will have no problems.

...and sometimes it is not heated enough and I am coming from the north! I just like my water nice and warm. And that's why I wouldn't do value resort during winter cause they don't have hot tubs and I would hate to chance it whether the weather will allow me to swim or not.

We were in WDW last Dec (12/3-12/11) and had beautiful weather (mid/high 70s-low 80s), but we're also from New York State, so even if it had been in the 60s, we would have been swimming (kids will swim in anything...my girls have gone swimming in May in an Adirondack lake and also in early June in Maine   ).

We have been twice in December - one time the weather was great for swimming (at least most days) the other time it was cold and windy every afternoon when we usually swim. We always take our swimsuits and then just roll with it.
Here's hoping you get warm and sun :sunny:

Like others have said, I've been there in December when it was very warm and beautiful weather for swimming - and I've been there when you actually needed winter coats and gloves. Sometimes we've experienced both on the same trip!

Yes, the pools are heated - but there have still been lots of times in December it was just way too cold for us to swim. It's just kind of the luck of the draw as to what sort of weather you end up with. When we go in December, we always take everything from swimsuits to sweatsuits.

It's really a hit or miss thing. We have gone the 3rd week in Dec. The first 2 days were great about 75-80. We were swimming at night. But after that our suits didn't come out. One night it dropped down to about 50.

I've only gone to Disney only once in December and that was last year. Let me tell you about cold.

We arrived on a Saturday windy and cold. Went to MK that night wore my winter coat and gloves and Yes! it was cold.

Next few days were not that bad, cold but bearable. On Tuesday night we went to MVMCP. I wore my flannel PJ under my clothing, my boots, my leather coat under my winter coat and my gloves. Was I warn No!

Next night we went to Epcot. If I thought Tuesday was cold, Wednesday was freezing. The wind had picked up and it wasn't a warm wind.

Next few day were bearable during the day only had to wear my leather, at night wore my winter coat over my leather and gloves.

We came home on Sunday evening, spent the day at DTD Christmas Shopping. it was the warmest day we were there. Actually took both my coats off for a while. They were predicting colder weather to arrive the next day. Time to go home to Mass where the weather is cold, but a dry cold. Not a bone chilling, damp, windy cold.

Advantages: Parks were empty at night.

As cold as it was we had a wonderful week full of magic, just cold magic.

We are going the first week in December & we aren't planning on using the pool at WL- but will bring our bathing suits just in case ;)

I bet we were there at the same time last year! We've hit cold days before during December and January, but that was the most cold trip, overall. There were a few days and nights when it was just freezing! We had to huddle together under a blanket during the Candlelight Processional. Forget about swimsuits - we never even got to wear shorts or t-shirts! We had on long underwear, jeans, sweatshirts, jackets, scarves, hats, gloves - and we had those hand warmer things stuffed in our pockets - and we were still COLD! In fact, one night they were sprinkling rock salt around the exit for Splash Mountain because the water dripping on the ground there was actually freezing solid - and yes, a few very brave souls were still riding it! We were there a week and never saw a single person in any of the pools - not even kids. In fact, the only livng things in the Wilderness Lodge pools that week were the ducks. It wasn't just cold "for Florida" - it was plain old COLD! We still had a great time, though! And, we're going back the same time this year. To me, the low crowds and great Christmas decorations and festivities make it worth the risk of cold weather.

Hi, "Anne" - you must be from the same Canadian province as me!

Our family almost exclusively travels to WDW in December, and we've braved the swimming pools no matter what the weather - I agree with a previous poster who says it's the "getting out of the pool" that's the difficult part sometimes!

While we have encountered very cold temperatures in December, we've also run into days warm enough to take in the water parks, or stroll through the Parks with tank tops and shorts on!

You will have a wonderful vacation, no matter what the temperatures! :flower:

We were at WL the first week of Dec 2003. It was very cold most of the time, we had to buy gloves at AK! Our first day was warm 70's and the last day was 60's-70's. Bring things that you can layer just in case. I saw people in the pool but no way for me! I am sure that kids would have no problem with it! Have a good trip.

When we went in December a few years back it was in 30's and even the water was freezing. I have never been so cold. Good luck if you plan on swimming.

Last year the 3rd week in December was the coldest weather I can ever remember here in Florida during the same time frame. We went to EPCOT one night even with layers of clothing, coats, hats and gloves we started shivering so bad we couldn't stop.

Yes thats the week. We went with a group of adults. Told my friend I had checked weather com and they were saying cold. He laugh! Said it Florida how cold could it be? "He who laughs last, always gets the best laugh"

I packed long sleeves shirts and sweaters, long pants, boots, gloves, ear muffs, flannel PJ and 2 winter coats for DH and myself.

Everyone laughed, until they needed to go shopping for winter clothing. Just try to find warm clothing in Florida.

Check weather com before leaving, even though it may be 60's it can feel like 30's if there's a strong north wind. If their saying windy and 60's you can bet you be cold. 60's up north in December you sweat, 60's in Florida you can freeze if it's windy.

We went last year the 3rd week of December and it was too cold to swim. It dropped into the 30s at night. It was comfortable during the day...we wore sweatshirts but we didn't try the pools even though they are heated. I hear it pretty much hit or miss with the weather in December/January in FL. The day we were leaving it was warm again though.

and it was cold, but we did still use the hot tubs almost daily, and we did SAB one day and WP one day.

We just took cover ups and didnt dawdle once we were out of the water. We had a blast and no one was there most of the time.

We love to swim at night and the water was really warm!

Christmas Day 2004, it rained all day and was cold.
