OK, Now I'm starting to rethink my resort choices...AGAIN!

Currently booked:
April - 5 nights ASMo and 2 nights WL
December - 5 nights POFQ and 2 nights Contemporary

We are a family of 4. ds is 5 & dd 2 for April, will be 6 & turning 3 for Dec.

We've stayed at ASMO before and the kids LOVE Toy Story and swimming w/ Fantasia Mickey. So that's why I have a split stay booked there for April, and we were going to avoid the values in Dec. due to Pop Warner.

Now I'm starting to question if we'll be able to swim at POFQ in Dec. And it has such a GREAT slide for the kids. I'm thinking maybe we should book it for Apr. and ASMo for Dec.

I'm not as concerned about PW now as we'll be checking out Sun 12/4 (the 1st day of PW) We may see a bunch of them checking in on Sat....but it will only be for the 1 night. Then we go offsite for a conference for a week...and return for 2 nights at the Contemporary before flying home.

SO.....it really comes down to what is swimming like in Dec??? I know you can get unseasonably cold days....and warmer ones, but on avg...do people (adults) find it pleasant swimming in Dec?????????

Thanks!
Janet

Hi there!

We found if the outside temp was high 60s / low 70s it was OK - just - to swim. The water is lovely and warm but getting out is another matter when it's cold!!

It was pretty cold in December when we visited and they actually shut the pool at ASMo for one day - which I gather only happens when it is very much colder than the norm.

remember that the resort pools are heated. Well they were at WL...We went in December. It was great... but the weather can change..

Pools are heated to 82. We went swimming many times in December when we lived up north. If you are from a cold climate you won't have any problems with swimming. It might be a little cold when you get out but it never bothered my kids.

That's what I was hoping! We're from New England. I originally thought as long as it wasn't unseasonably cold in FL (40's) we'd have no problem. Then recently I read some posts that led me to believe it may be more of an issue. So I thought I'd post a specific topic about it and see what people had to say. :goodvibes

Guessing I can keep reservations as planned and do POFQ and CR in Dec. But I look forward to hearing any other opinions on this too!! :flower:

We are from way up North on the shores of Lake Superior where summer is never really hot and the water is never warm and it has been too cold for us to swim the last 3 years we were there.

oh dear, that's not good to hear. Well, I guess I'll call the CRO to see if POFQ for our dates in April is even a possibility at this late date. I really do want to stay there this year....just a matter of when. And I don't want to be hopping 3 x in a week. That's just too much.

Anyone else have input on swimming in Dec?????

We're two "50-something" adults. We've been there the last three years in the beginning of December. In 2002 it was too cold to be outside without a coat and hat and gloves. We never even considered swimming! In 2003, we swam every day while we were there. It was lovely. This past December, we swam on the first day we were there (12/6) because it was hot. We were too busy the rest of the week, and by Saturday, the air was warm but it was too chilly to swim. We left for our cruise and came back four nights later to warm weather again...we swam all three days that we were there. When we got up on our last day, it was actually cold again (cold enough to see your breath, which is just way too cold for us to swim).

I you can see from my tag, I swam in Dec. :flower: We went the second week of Dec. 2001 and it was in the 80's every day :sunny:

2003 was warm then a little chilly on our down day - but it was our first time at BCV and there was no way I wasn't going to go into Storm Along Bay.

Yes - it was chilly running to get up the slide - but it was fun too!

other years its been warm enough to swim - here's wishing us 75* and sunny for Dec 2005!

We're from Connecticut too and the two previous times we went in December we went swimming. It was a little cold but not too bad. We even swam at night. We are going again this December and plan on swimming again (we even have a 1/2 day planned for Typhoon Lagoon this year!
