Today we changed our dates from 10/31 to 9/26 for 7 nights. I see on other threads that there a suggestions to swim at WL. R we allow to use other properties pools? Also any ideas on the pool refurb completion time.

It is not allowed. However it is done by many.

Last I heard was mid March for pool opening.

so we did it last week but the pool will be done by the time you are there and nope, you aren't supposed to.

Thanks hopefully pool will be done, if March is intended date i am sure it will done by late Sept. I think about taking a chance over at WL :)

Also, heard Space Mountain is closed til late Sept. bummer :sad2:

Did they just close it recently? It was opened on Valentine's Day. We're going back next month and we have to ride all three mountains..it's now a tradition :) so guess I need to do a little research before we go.

AllEarsNet states Space Mountain is closed for refurb til late Sept. 2009. Hopefully open but 9/26, this is the first year my sons will be able to ride, it would suck to have them miss this attraction.

Any other news, feel free to add

From what I'm hearing they are completely revamping the ride route, doubtless to make it faster and more thrilling. Expect a whole new mountain when done. And to add in-car audio systems (ala RRC) and the tracks should be glassy smooth using modern urethane wheels.

Space Mountain is still open. It is not supposed to close until April (I'll bet it will be after Easter), then it is going down for a long refurb. There is an article about it in the latest Mickey Monitor (passholders' newsletter).

Hmm... other sources I've seen are saying SM will be closed from mid-April until "late 2009". I saw a date of 11/21 somewhere, but not can't remember where.

TTA is also said to be closing at the same time, but supposedly is going to reopen in the fall, before SM does.

From AllEars.net

Space Mountain will be closed from April 19, 2009 until November 21, 2009 for refurbishment.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority will be closed from April 19 through August 24, 2009.

My CM friend said they are not changing the layout. There are just adding some safety requirements to the track/cars. He said something about a third wheel has to be under the cars because as of now there are only 2? I don't know if that makes sense. Like, 2 wheels hold the car on the track but all modern rides have 3 wheels (1 under, 2 sides) so they have to add the 3rd one.

He also said and the loading zone they will be putting up gates because as of right now a kid could get away and literally run onto the track. Think how Thunder Mt. and all other rides have those loading zones with the gates the open automatically, that is what they are adding.

My friend was an engineering intern from UF

Thanks every one. I will avoid the Space mountain attraction when we go. There r many others my kids can ride. That is a bummer :sad2: though. We missed it last trip and DH was looking forward to it too. Oh well, just an excused to rebook next year....Right:laughing:

How I wish we are also going as early as anyone here. But we are not yet decided if when we will go, hopefully before the month ends we can all finalized.:)

I'm going to have to save a bribe of mickey bars or something because I KNOW my kids are going to flip out when they find out this is closed. Maybe I should warn them- but I'd really rather not prolong the whining about it before we even get there. I'll act like I had no idea it was closed then bring out the old hey who wants mickey bars? Get their minds off it. LOL
My youngest was FINALLY just barely big enough to ride this last time we were there- and we were only there at MK for 1.5 days in 2006 and we were pretty soaked (from heavy rains) the entire time and staying at GF for the first time- so we didn't spend a huge amount of time in MK. It was just a quickie trip before cruise. And my son has always loved it- I know my youngest two are going to be bummed that this is closed.

IDK- how tall they have to be for RNR. If they are all tall enough now- that should placate them too. LOL

Youngest was talking sooo much about IASW on our last trip (DL) and it was closed while we were there! We have such bad luck with that lately. And we've never rode EE yet and I've heard there is a problem with the yeti? I hope it's not closed down while we're there!

(I do have to say I don't understand doing these major long improvements over all the summer months! What is that about? Isn't that like probably their busiest time?)
