Swimming at the Grand Floridian

My children are going on the Pirate Cruise and my DH and I will have a few hours to kill. Is it possible to swim at the Grand Floridian pool during that time? We are staying at a different Disney hotel.

Unfortunately, you are not supposed to use pools of resorts other than your own...Maybe you could walk around the hotel, get a drink or lunch, or get a spa treatment.

Well actually that depends. Are you DVC owners staying at a DVC resort while you are there? We (DVC owners staying at a DVC resort) are allowed to pool hop to other resort pools (except Stormalong Bay).

Pack your suits, and ask at the front desk. The answer may surprise you. Be sure to ask, so you won't be embarressed if the lifeguard asks if you are a guest. You may find that Disney is very accomodating. If it is very crowded, have other plans, so as not to be upset, if the answer is no.

By all means, ask. But each pool does have a sign that states that the pool is for the exclusive use of the guests of the Grand Floridian.

But a spa treatment for the two of you would be wonderful. You'd probably even forget that you have children.

I realize the sign is there..but they will most often give the OK if you ask and they are not busy..or if you have a child doing one of their programs. Disney owns the place and has been very generous "stratching" or changing their rules.

Calling before you go won't do any good. It all depends on how busy the pool is, and they won't know until you are there.

If it's anything like it was this past week, forget it. As DVC members we called one day and were told no, as both GF pools were at capacity, same with the Polynesian pools!

I agree with the other poster, have a leisurely breakfast at the GF Cafe or get a spa treatment. You could also rent watermice.

As an FYI--if the front desk says yes the lifeguards can still say no, becuase safety is their responsibility, and they have the ultimate say. So instead of calling the front desk, my advice is to ask to be transferred to the lifeguard stand and ask them.

Well, I was there a few weeks ago and my kids did the Grand Adventures in Cooking. I did ask at the front desk and was happily obliged I stayed at the quiet pool with my book and had a drink. It really was very relaxing. However, I would not just assume to do this without permission. The day before the kids did the Tea Party and I was all shopped out so just relaxing by the pool was a real treat. OK people I just put on my flame retardent suit, so let the flaming begin

When we were there during the first week in August the hotel was booked solid on several days but the pool was empty - me & dh & ds had it practically to ourselves!!!

The lifeguards check WDW resort I.D.'s at the pool -- and they can tell which WDW resort you are staying at by the numbers encoded on the I.D. card.
