SWEET TEA: Can I get this anywhere in the world?

You have shown your northern roots ;) . I'm sorry, but it's not the same. Your suggestion would have weak lukewarm tea because of the melted ice. PROPER sweet tea has to have the sugar added when the tea is still hot. Adding the sugar to the tea after it has cooled is just not the same.

i understand the adding of the sugar when the tea is hot... it's basic science... what's the difference between making the tea, adding the sugar and then adding a gallon of water (which is one recipe a "southerner" gave) then making a cup of two-teabag tea, adding sugar (WHILE HOT) and then pour the strong tea over the ice, and adding additional ice if it's still "lukewarm?" (jftr, i do this all the time and it is reminiscent of the sweet tea my friend from texas has made me)

That's not a bad idea. I love sweet tea. Can't get enough of it. I make a gallon of it at home at least every other day.

Now while in Disney I can never get sweet tea at any of the restaurants. I drink hot tea in the morning and night and never with a dinner, but now I think I'll try this the next time I want sweet tea at a restaurant. It's worth a shot.

I love how the McDonald's in the south offer sweet tea, which I love, because I am a tea lover AND a sugar fiend, so what's not to like?

Unfortunately, I can not tolerate caffeine. Last time I indulged in the sweet tea I had an anxiety attack! The darn caffeine makes my heart race... I am not used to it. I know, I am a weinie... But at home I can make my OWN version with half-Splenda/half sugar and decaf teac bags... Luzianne is good even in the decaf version.

I often bring some Luzianne decaf tea bags and make my OWN sweet tea to enjoy in our villa :)

Another Georgian sweet tea lover here. I could not find fresh brewed sweet tea anywhere adn I really tried. All they told me was that Disney is tied in with the beverage company that distributes Nestea. That is all they have at all the Disney places in Orlando it seems. Cantina de San Angel was the only place where the tea actually tasted brewed and nearly correct.

Columbia Harbor House in MK had real, live, brewed sweet tea when we were there last time - it's not on the menu, you have to ask! :goodvibes

When I asked about it the cashier teased me by saying , "Sure thing hon, do y'all want le-mon with that sweeeeet tea?"

I love sweet tea. I make it the same way - simple syrup, then add the tea, let it steep, then add ice and cool water. I use about half the sugar, though! I don't like it too sweet - and I use the splenda for baking that's half sugar half splenda, so it tastes like real sugar, but it's actually 1/4 the calories of regular sweet tea. When fresh and cool, it is delicious!

Anyway, just wanted to share that you can make your own simple splenda syrup. You do need a little sugar to get it going, thats why the half splenda half sugar thing works so well.

I love to add a little fresh mint from the garden, too. Mmmm.

Looks like you have found out the secret of Fort Wilderness Campground. "They serve REAL sweet tea there!" It is available at both Trails End and HDDR (shared kitchen). :cool1: :cool1:

Now where to find a decent cup of coffee....oops wrong thread:eek:

If you order the press pot 100% Kona coffee at the Kona cafe in the Poly you will stop your hunt. :coffee: It is the only place to get 100% Kona coffe from Hawaii and it is only served by press pot.

As for sweet tea. I think I saw that Good Eats one. The key was to use a sugar syrup and not just granulated sugar. The sugar syrup melted better and combines into the tea better. From what I've seen and read the sweeter the better.

Its funny there are debates about iced tea and sweet tea. Most northern's (I'm born and bred in Boston) assume it is a real sweet ice tea. I have also read debates over what is ice coffee and the best way to make it. Most southern's aren't familiar with the drink. I was in a Dunkin Dounut's in Montreal Canada and ordered an ice coffee they looked at me like I had three heads:dance3: . I have lived off of DD ice coffee for at least 15 years and could not believe they had never heard of ice coffee. I drink it all year round.

Is this just a coffee cooled down and iced? Not frozen :scared: but with ice in it? I dunno...I've been drinking iced coffee since I started drinking coffee  Especially in the summer when it's too hot for hot drinks. I'm not from Ga but was born and raised in Hawthorne Fl which is about as southern a town as you can find in N Central Fl.

I like sweet tea a lot, but I won't go out of my way in WDW (or anywhere else) to find it.

I make it at home with all the modern convenience of the auto drip coffee maker. 8 cups of water in the reservoir for a full pot. Put six or eight tea bags in the basket. A cup of sugar in the pot. Hit the on button. As the tea brews and goes into the pot it dissolves the sugar. After the coffee maker is finished I will take the tea bags and let them steep in the pot of tea for a bit longer to get a stonger flavor. Fill a 2 and a 1/4 quart pitcher with ice and pour in the tea. Add more ice to fill the pitcher.

I've spent enough time walkin in Memphis and working in the Georgia to know that my concoction is pretty darn good ;) and pretty darn easy.

MickeyD's now offers Sweet Tea here in the North. It's really good too. They can't keep up with the demand though. Twice now I've wanted sweet tea from McD's and they were brewing a fresh batch. I had to wait a whole 10 minutes for my sweet tea fix but it was worth the wait.:cloud9:

I don't remember sweet tea being available anywhere except for maybe Whispering Canyon and Trails End

Thanks for this thread. Now I know where to get my "fix". The sweeter the better! Stick a straw in and hope it stands up. Mickey D's sweet tea is almost good enough to start an IV with! :thumbsup2

We recently ate at Trail's End and they had it, but not at the Hoop-Dee-Do (which is right next door).

Yes, but other threads I have read people thought it was the frozen stuff. :scared1: They also advised people to just order a coffee and pour over ice to make ice coffee.:sad2: I explained that this would be a very watered down ice coffee and would taste very bad.

Kind of the same thing about just getting tea adding ice and sugar. This will not be a very good tasting sweet tea.

The McD's here is Mass have not gotten sweet tea yet. I will keep my eye out:thumbsup2

This is how I make my sweet tea: Boil water to fill 2 qt. pitcher. Put 1 1/2 C sugar in pithcer. Add boiling water. Put in 6 regular size Luzianne tea bags (or 2 family size) and let seep. Stir, then chill. Serve over ice. You can not sweeten tea after it gets cold, you have to dissolve the sugar in boiling water; and yes, I use one and one half cups sugar. I said sweet tea, didn't I;)

1 1/2 cups of sugar? :scared1: :scared: My dental fillings hurt just thinking about it! :lmao:

Well I am definately a southern guy. Sweet tea and Dr Pepper...Cheerwine and RC cola and moonpies.....Taco Bell believe it or not makes the best sweet tea in my area. its almost sugar water but dang its good...KFC a close 2nd

My wife puts 2 cups in a gallon....she also just puts water in a old butter bowl and adds 4 or 5 tea bags put in microwave on high for about 6 minutes, let it sit about an hour then pour into pitcher and stir it well and fill it up with cold water. Sweet tea is always better if someone else makes it. I make it exactly the way she does and I dont like it. weird stuff
