IME, any recipe for cornbread that is sized to make a 9" skillet of it can be made sweet by adding a 1/4 cp of granulated sugar to the batter.
I make sweet onion cornbread; I add sugar and a handful of finely-chopped green onion to the batter. For some unknown reason, the onion tops seem to intensify the sweetness.
