we are going on a SWDAS Star Wars cruise in January. While we like SW well enough, really the first 3 movies, it's really nothing any of us go Gaga over. Just read that they plan on showing all 7 SW movies during the cruise and even more on the funnel vision. It scares me a bit is the whole 7 nights in the Buena vista theater gonna be Star Wars, Star Wars, and more Star Wars?? My girls could care less about SW, and my wife and I have ZERO interest in 4th through 6th movies , maybe see the newest one once. Don't mind the extra show on deck or menu on ththe actual Star Wars day , but is anything going to be taken away from normal programming to make room for Star Wars the other 6 days??? Thanks

Here's a link to the Navigators from a SWDAS cruise:

The movies are a little heavy on the Star Wars, but there are other movies being shown. I haven't been on one of these, but my understanding is that they have the fireworks on the SWDAS and not on Pirate Night. Overall, what I've read from people on these cruises is that it isn't "all Star Wars, all the time" and if you aren't a fan, there is still lots to keep you occupied.

There is a new article here that may provide some information for you: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/201...017-star-wars-days-sea-aboard-disney-fantasy/

We are on a SWDAS cruise in January, too, and are not huge SW fans. My husband loves all the movies, etc and our eldest DD is now into it but overall, we aren't huge fans. I'm looking forward to seeing Rouge One aboard and participating in the activities on the actual day but for the rest of the cruise I'm planning on ignoring the Star Wars stuff :rotfl2:

We had originally booked a SWDAS cruise in February '17, the week of a school holiday. When a family member wasn't able to make that due to his work schedule, I couldn't have been happier when I changed the booking to a Merritime Cruise last month. Like you, I have no particular interest in Star Wars, but I really enjoyed the X-Mas decorations as well as catching up on many other movies. I'd love to go on any Disney cruise and there's no shortage of other things to do, but, having said that, I would definitely pick a non-SW cruise if given the choice, in particular a Merritime one.

While I'm not looking to get flamed for this comment, I have to wonder who would pay the premium to sail DCL and then sit to watch 7 Star wars movies. The new one I can see but the time it would take away from your vacation to sit and watch what you can see any day at home, well, it baffles my mind. Then again, I'm not a star wars fan. :darth:

We booked ours when it was just a regular cruise. When they announced the SWDAS for our cruise, our category went up by $1000. At least we enjoy the movies.

I have to say, one of the things I like most is the same thing I like about Disney. Lucas was a pioneer in the animation industry, just as Walt Disney was. Walt changed and pushed the film industry in his time, which is what Lucas did in the 70s. We might all look at it now as cheesy or not up to present-day standards, but watch Fantasia or Snow White or Mary Poppins, all ground breakers in their time, and try to compare them with the animation of Toy Story or Inside/Out. But we wouldn't have Toy Story without having Snow White. And we wouldn't have Xmen without first having Star Wars.

I too booked this when it was a regular cruise, and now it's Star Wars. I don't really watch a ton ofmovies. but i love funnel vision. as long as FV is not SW all week. the one day i can handle. And after 5 Pirate party nights, i'm ok having a Star Wars Day instead!

I find Star Wars to be okay (have seen all the movies), but I am definitely not a super fan. We were on a SWDAS cruise last April (booked before it was a SWDAS cruise) and I did find all the Star Wars movies to be a bummer. It was pretty much all SW in the BV theater from boarding through Wednesday (our SWDAS). Yes, they played other movies, but they really weren't at times when we would choose to see a movie - they were mainly at 6:00pm & 8:00pm (times we would normally be eating dinner & watching the show in The Walt Disney Theater) or when we were out enjoying the ports. It wasn't until after SWDAS that the Star Wars movies stopped dominating the schedule.

It's not like I booked a cruise to go to the movies, but I thought it would be a nice entertainment option during our 3 sea days (no Jamaica).

Other than SWDAS and the movie schedule, it was pretty much a normal Disney cruise.

Funnel Vision was only Star Wars stuff on the day of SWDAS during our cruise - it was normal Disney stuff (and the NCAA final four one night) during the rest of the cruise.

We're going on the Jan. 7 SW cruise. My 8 yr old dd and I are not SW fans, I don't really care for any sci-fi movies. My dh likes the movies and will probably see the movie on board, but we don't plan on doing anything else that is SW related. I'm actually disappointed that the pirate day is scaled back. I'm a huge football fan, so I'm much more concerned about missing games on Sunday.

I agree. I am a Star Wars fan but I'm not going on a Disney cruise for Star Wars, I am going for the assumed experience. It was not a SWDAS when we booked. I was looking forward to the big pirate day and Disney movies (not Star Wars movies).

We won't let this define our trip but I don't feel like this is going to be a highlight for us.

I'm not inclined to do SWDAS, but as a movie buff I'll say that seeing films at a theater is a totally different experience than watching them at home on tv. For those who love the entire SW series (I only like the original 3), getting to see all 7 films in the theater in one week, along with other fans, is an experience that can't be replicated stateside.

Some people on DCL like going to the live theater shows each day to relax, but for others, it's the movie theater. To each his own.

LOL! I'm not going to flame you but my husband has a 16-foot inflatable Darth Vader in our yard right now. He's the one who paid the premium and did as many Star Wars activities as possible. He LOVED the cruise and I did, too, even though, like you, I'm not a fan. :)

LOL!!! I am totally with you on this. I am a HUGE Harry Potter nut but I couldn't imagine paying for a cruise and just sitting and watching all the movies. It would be much cheaper to go to your local theater and pay to watch the marathon there. I am not criticizing anyone who this is their thing, I'm just saying that I would be somewhere else on the ship. Then again, my coworkers all think I'm nuts for going to Disney World so much. :sunny:

Eight films! "Rogue One" kicks ***!

LOL! We went to the movies on Tuesday, and in the lobby there was an inflated Darth Vader and Stormtrooper, each holding giant candy canes.:rotfl2:
