Swap magic bands for occasional FP+ ride?

In the past, the whole family (6) would all get the paper FP's to a certain thrill ride (Space Mountain, Tower of Terror, etc) but Mom, Dad, and baby wouldn't go on... those 3 paper FP's would go to the middle 3 children who would immediately ride again using those FP's.

Even with the new magicband FP+ 's, there are still some situations of rides that Mom, Dad, & baby** don't want to go on, and there aren't really any other rides we care for at the same time.

(** not really a baby anymore, but still very young)

Can the middle 3 children just swap out magic bands for those rides, just like before with the old paper FP's ??? Is anyone doing that?

You should be able to. Magic bands just turn the Mickey head green when they work and give no indication of who they belong too.

That's not quite true. On the Cast Member console at the Fastpass return areas, they have a computer which displays the name attached to the MyMagic+ account linked to your band or ticket. So, in theory, if a Betty walked up and swiped Jim's band, the Cast Member could have a red flag raised. In practice, I doubt they would care too much.

This is true but there have not been any reports of CMs turning anyone away.

I'm so relieved to see this - it was one of my 47 questions regarding our upcoming trip (they change things every year and I can't keep up!).

We, too, have older parents and a little one (toddler) we used to do the same thing for - everyone gets the FP and they're distributed among those who want to go. Methinks we'll be switching bands, too. :thumbsup2

Yeah, I think the CMs have other more important things they are focusing on rather than laying down the law on simple things like this.

I also think they know this is going to happen and really what's the difference if it's me or my wife going on? We still would take the same amount of time through the line.

Thanks for the replies - this is good to hear!

Does anyone know if the cast member sees the real name assigned to the band, or the 9-character nickname we choose on the MDE website? Our nicknames are fairly gender-neutral (I almost chose "Seabean")

edit: they probably see the real name *and* the age - so there's plenty of opportunity to disallow people based on name and age - but since there isn't a lot of people in these forums saying they've been disallowed, I'm guessing it's not being enforced. (really - it's no different than what we were doing with the paper tickets)

I believe it shows the real name but thats it. I say a screen on our last trip and it pulled up Charles for DH, but his band said Chuck. No age or anything, just had our names.

We often go with another couple, and I've left the guy take my band and use a FP+ for ToT before. He didn't have any problems.

Thanks for the correction, guess In our two trips using FP no one ever looked or interacted with it so didn't even know it existed.

When we went over Mother's day weekend. I was getting overheated and decided it was time for me to go. It was DD, DGD, DGS, and me (gma). I live an hour south of Disney and DD lives in Ft Laud (3 hours away). She decided she was coming back to my house that night (we stayed 1 night at Disney, I live close but still stay at a resort) DHD5 decided she wanted to go home with me. We left our MBs with my DD. We had gotten FPs for RnR (none available for TSM) she had no problem using our MBs. It was DGS8 first time and he loved it. They rode twice. He used mine because I had red. He refused to wear pink. lol Boys!

I'll mention the obvious.. the main place where magicband swapping will NOT be tolerated is at Park Entrance -- which is why they have the finger scan.

But within reason, it seems once inside we can swap magicbands all we want, and the CM's will never question that a face and name don't quite intuitively match up (gender/ethnicity) Why? WDW is extremely PC. Think about it.

OP- yes. My mom and brother aren't thrill riders so they give me their MB's. never gotten noticed for this by a cm. You might get a weird look if you are a girl and the name says John on their screen, but there shouldn't be a problem.
