Other than the names, what are the differences between the Swan and Dolphin. I am considering one of these or a moderate for my Dec trip. I am a nurse, so may be able to get a good discount at the Swan or Dolphin, but am also an AP holder, so should also be able to get a discount at one of the moderates. Which would you choose?

Definitely not Swan/Dolphin for me-- they're not Disney enough!

My favorite mods are CBR and POFQ

We've never stayed at the Swan or Dolphin and just have never had a desire to do so--they just don't do anything for us. And you can't get the dining plan, you have to pay for parking every day, etc. I chose moderate and our favorite (and the only one we've stayed at) is the CSR which has queen beds now. Our second and only other choice in a moderate would be the POFQ. I suggest you pull up pictures of the Swan & Dolphin and the moderates and see which one appeals to you as far as theme and things they offer and go from there.

I'm very interested in this one. I've picked the Swan for Our upcoming Jersey Week trip. Im thinking the Epcot Resort area will be awesome. That in itself will provide enough Disney for Me. popcorn::

We tried Dolphin last June since I get a teacher rate that is amazing. When we first returned, I posted (and still feel) that the Swan and Dolphin are missing that Disney feel and it made me miss CSR and CBR my favorite moderates.
However, looking back on the amazing rate and the deluxe amenities you get staying at S/D, it really makes more sense to stay there when you get a great rate instead of a moderate. Do I still miss the resort Disney touches and magic? YES! But in terms of location, comfort, and deluxe amenities, S/D can't be beat by a mod.

The location is what was causing me to consider the Swan or Dolphin, that along with the fact that I have never stayed at either. I have stayed at all four moderates. In fact, I have stayed several times at POFQ and will be there May 9th-16th. I love POFQ, but would like to try something different. The things I don't like about the Swan and Dolphin though are the $10.00/day resort fee, no DDP, and no DME:mad: . I spend most of my time in Epcot though and love the location of the Swan and Dolphin, but wonder if the location is enough to make up for their drawbacks though. A moderate would probably be a little cheaper, even using an AP discount there, instead of the Nurse's discount at the S/D (especially with the daily resort fee, no DME, and no DDP), but the location of the S/D keeps making me consider them.:confused3 As much as I love POFQ, I think I'd like to try something different. I had a couple of bad situations at CSR a few years ago, but am also considering giving them another try. We were at PORS this past Sept and enjoyed it also though. I just can't decide!

Nobody has answered my question yet though about 'what is the difference between the Swan and the Dolphin, other than the names?'

Let's see...

Swan Dolphin - Interior corridors Disney Moderate - Exterior
Swan Dolphin - Heavenly Beds Queen at Swan Disney Moderate- Basic bedding. Doubles at most mod
Swan Dolphin Walk to Epcot and DHS Moderate Bus to all parks
Swan Dolphin - Earn Starwood Rewards for future stays. Moderate. If Disney likes you MAYBE they will send you a pin, but being a loyal guest actually seems to work against that!
Theme- Well...

If the pricing is close which it often is with the discount OP has go for the Swan/Dolphin. They are really just dramatically much nicer.

You do give up Magical Express, room charging and the chance to purchase the meal plan so that may be a consideration (I would still go with the Swan but...)

The "Disney touch" I think you are missing. The one in your wallet where Disney charges more for "cute, but lower quality" How much is "cute" worth? IMHO not as much as Disney thinks it is LOL!

I voted moderate - CBR.

We stayed at the Dolphin once. UGH! Never again! CBR is great IMO.

as much as i LOVE the disney resorts, anytime you can stay deluxe, go for it!

the swan and dolphin are totally worth if you can get a good rate.

If you have young kids, I'd say Mod. Have a little more to keep kids interested. If you are adults only or older children, definitely Swan! You just can't beat the location and pleasant accomodations for the price.

At the moment I'm going solo, but hoping I can talk my elderly mom into going with me.

Then I would definitely pick either Swan or Dolphin or if you go with moderate I'd pick the POFQ because it is smaller and compact (the other moderates are much larger and very spread out).

Pro's to the mods:

ME
Can add dining plan
No added resort fees
refrigerator (that you don't have to pay to empty)

Pro's to the dolphin:

Excellent location, location, location
Walking to Epcot

That's the way I see it as I am trying to decide between the d/s or a mod for 2 nights this June. Right now the nurses rate is comparable to rack rate at the mods. I've actually never stayed at the d/s, but this is how it is stacking up for me.

The only difference between Swan/Dolphin I know of for sure is the Swan has queen beds and sleeps 4, Dolphin has double beds and sleeps 5. Which stinks for us - we're 5 people but prefer to sleep together instead of getting a rollaway.

I *think* I either read or imagined that one is quieter than the other, but can't remember for sure which. Is Swan the quieter of the two?

I go solo... Swan/Dolphin hands down. As a solo the DDP has never been a good value so that "con" is out. Plus as a Solo I really like Epcot and the location can't be beat!
