swan room requests

I'm staying at the Swan marathon weekend (teacher rate!!) and having never been there I don't know what to request in terms of rooms. Is there a side or view that's better in the standard rooms? I joined the starwood guest thing to get the points and perhaps a complimentary upgrade , but beyond that what should I ask for?

I can't wait for that heavenly bed after 26.2 miles of running!! WooHoo!!

I just emailed them asking for a beautiful view, and I got upgraded to a king with balcony overlooking the lagoon where the boats pull in. It was a beautiful view although too hot to use the balcony. I did mention my starwood #

I emailed at the swandolphin.com web site. I then went to the spg.com site under my reservation and found that I had been upgraded to a king with some kind of view I think it said resort view. Before it had said standard room with obstructed view I think. I was also told at check in that we had been upgraded.

How soon before your arrival did you email them? Was this a complimentary upgrade, and what time of year was this? Also, did you have any Starwood points at the time you made the request for a beautiful view?

About 2 weeks before arrival I emailed them. We had originally gotten the nurses rate. Then cash and points came out from starwood and eventually (I had to check several times) they added the Swan for our dates. They just transfered our reservation for the $60. and 3000 points a night. Most of my points had been accumulated by either using AE or staying at conferences. This pretty much consumed all my points just for that and it only guareented a standard room and view. So I had maybe a couple thousand points in the bank so to speak. So I didn't have points for the upgrade. We were there in May 15-22. The hotel wasn't too busy the first couple of days but then got very busy. This is the 2nd time I have only requested a "beautiful view" with no other requests and gotten an upgrade to a king bed with a beautiful view. The other time we were in Vancouver and were at a Westin ( Swan is also a Westin) that I had gotten on priceline. We had a beautiful view of the harbour.Both times the check in person noted that they were upgrading us to a "beautiful view" without mentioning that we had requested it or that we were starwood members.
