Swan or POR? What would you do?

OK so I said we definitely weren't going back to Disney next year ... then I started looking again :cool1:.

Anyway have found a surprisingly good deal on the Swan and love the idea of the location of it and being in a deluxe but then we have also found a decent deal on POR and have stayed there before and loved it. The difference in the cost of the two is pretty much the cost of our 3 park tickets.

Just wondering is the Swan worth the extra when we know we'd be very happy at POR?? Every holiday we kind of mean to go to Boardwalk at night but have only ever made it during the day. Also are there any "cheap" ie counter service places to eat round about the Swan? We won't have dining plan.

Thanks

I haven't stayed at the Swan, but I have stayed at the Boardwalk and Beach Club and POR. I say if the money is not a stretch, then splurge and enjoy staying in the Boardwalk area.

If money is tight (which it sounds like it might be, since you are asking about inexpensive places to eat), then I would go with POR. It has that great eating area there, and you know that you really like it.

Either way, you will have a wonderful time, I am sure!

Best wishes!

Never stayed at the Swan. Like you we love POR. I know that the Swan has extra fees. Have you calculated those to be sure of what the savings will be? I am not sure what they are but I am sure someone here can help you with that.

Also, will you need they Magical Express or will you have a car. The Swan does not offer the ME.

Subscribing! We are kicking around the same ideas... :surfweb:

I would pick the Swan just for location!! We've stayed there 3 times and never any problems. Also if you choose the Swan make sure you are adding in the daily resort fee and if you have your own car, the 10.00 a day to park.
I've also stayed at POR & POFQ and like both, but for the location I'd pick Swan if prices are same.

If the base cost is the same and the only difference is the resort fee, I would go with the Swan.

The pluses are (1) heavenly beds, (2) superb location, (3) really fun pool, (4) free in-room internet access.

The minuses are (1) resort fee & parking, (2) no DME, (3) no package delivery and (4) no DDP.

We love the boardwalk area! As far as the food goes, the only options I know of are the disney ones. Don't know what is at the swan. There is the boardwalk bakery, sandwiches and treats.

The beachclub has hurricane hannas by the pool with typical burgers/hotdogs/wraps. And then there is the marketplace inside the beachclub with more sandwiches and a few other options. We typically choose Hannas during good weather and adequate seating (not too crowded) or the marketplace during poor weather or crowded pool area. There is a lovely solarium room inside the beachclub where you can sit down and enjoy your lunch in some relative calm. I'm sure yacht club has something but I'm not familiar with it. Check out allears.net for menus.

The other thing about this area is the back entrance to epcot is handy and you can eat anywhere around the world for counter service. We usually take advantage of morocco and USA (more mundane, but kid friendly) and of course France for desserts!

We always have a good stay at good ol POR and their food court is one of the best on the property. But after dinner, unless you are going to DTD there is not much to do if you're not going to a park. Our kids are too little for us to leave and go to the piano bar. So we really enjoy strolling the boardwalk area and watching the magicians and jugglers, listening to the music from the clubs and generally feeling like we're "in the mix" of things even though we aren't!
