I know you can get special rates at the Swan/Dolphin if you are a teacher or a gov. employee -anyone know if this only applies to americans? My dh works for the local council so we are wondering if we could get these rates.

I got it as a teacher - I just had to take my ID and a pay slip. It would be worth the phone call to check - they are great hotels.

The teacher rate/ govt rate for a standard room is $129 plus tax. If you go to the resort board check for the Swan/Dolphin FAQ thread - it has all the details. Also make sure you sign up for the free Starwood Card - it got us great free upgrades both times.

Hi Bev

I have always assumed that the government rate was for US only, as DH and I are previous DSS employees, but I think it may be worth checking out! If you can't get that rate, you can get half price rates with a Disney Club card if you have one.

Hi Rob - yes the Starwood Preferred Guest card will get you points on your stay - and also you stand more chance of getting an upgrade if you are a member of the scheme.

I stayed in the Dolphin in 99, visiting again at Xmas, if anyone needs any help, I will do my best to answer your questions! :D

I am also interested in the Government rates where do I find if I am eligible as I am having no luck with the search facility and there are so many pages to look through for the FAQ thread!
Thanks
Claire:D

Just to let everyone know, UK Government employees ARE eligible for the Government Rate, so good news! You need to show some form of ID at checkin. :D

Wasn't any good for myself though, as DH and I no longer work for the DSS (DH did 25 years there), and you have to be a CURRENT employee, not retired.

I think we got quite a good rate though on our DC card, as I booked last January when visitors to Orlando were in the doldrums. If I tried to book the same room now I would be paying $500 more over the 15 nights so I still feel as though I have a bargain! :D

Hope someone can take advantage of this information and save a few dollars! :D
