I checked in today at exactly my 24hr mark and got B08 for me and B10 for DH. I don't know how that happened. We only did early bird check in for the way home as we didn't really care where we were on the plane going down. Figured the $20 saving was better spent on a cocktail at Disney. I was wondering what number the A group stops at? Looks like more and more people are using the early bird check in.

I've noticed this more and more.

Here is what SW says on their website:

"Customers are assigned a boarding group (A, B, or C) and position (1-60) when they check in. "

MOST OF THE TIME, there are not a whole lot of people A1-15 because that's reserved for Business Class (automatically). SOOOOoooo, there will be 45ish people in the A group and 7ish people in the B group ahead of you. You'll still be fine finding seats together-- they just might be a little further down the isle.

There may be people joining your flight from connecting flights. When they checked in for their first flight at the 24-hr window, they automatically got boarding passes for the second leg of their trip as well, even tho it was more than 24 hours out. If that's the case, those passengers also pushed your boarding number back.

I would agree. We have gotten boarding in that B range just a couple of times. We have had no problems find 2 sets of 2 seats for both my husband and I and then our 2 kids as well.

Although I have read of others who have problems or get higher B numbers when not doing EBC, but we have never had that issue. In fact we were on on a sold out flight in June, I had a free ticket so my confirm number was different the my husband and kids. So I did EBC for just myself so I wouldn't have to worry about getting on line with two confirms numbers at the 24 hour mark. I received A10 an and my family was in the A20s. Again as a previous poster said I am sure it depends on many factors but my one and only experience with EBC didn't make it seem all the necessary but maybe we have just been lucky.

A1-15 are held for business travelers and those paying fully refundable fares. To get anything lower than an A16 would be very unlikely.
I have been on many full flights where those in the C group were still able to get seats together. Maybe not the entire family of 4 or 5, but each person got to sit with someone in their family.
It was when you got to the middle of the C group that a problem started...mostly middle seats throughout the plane were available. So, parties had to split up.
