Hi,

SW listed their new flights and some new rates on old flights were posted. I have never re-booked until yesterday our November trip and saved $380 dollars out of BDL. So excited, even if I do not get the cash back I'll apply it to our May trip.

Good for you !
Can I ask if the cancelling/re-booking was easy for you (I'm very wary about the time it takes in between opening the cancelling window and the rebooking window....about losing it).

First check out and see if the flights/times/prices are what you want as if you were booking a new flight. When you find them this is what you do.

The SW CS rep walked me through the steps, I was very nervous also...about canceling one and then missing/messing up the other reservation. It isn't like that.

You go to the Home page (with the people pictures on it) click travel center..Under Air travel tools, click Change Air reservation (7th line down), then input your information. It will show your flight information/ identical to when you booked on the reservation page, make no changes (unless you are changing something) then hit continue, it will come up with the new selection page and you re-select your flights/times, then continue. It will show you the new prices and flights, click confirm and it's all set. You don't risk losing the other flights.

Hope this helps if you ever need it in the future.

Can you cancel and rebook on any SW flight? My sister is flying from Albany to Orlando in January and the lowest rate is $145 each way. That seems high to me but we want certain flight because I will be traveling out of Baltimore and want to hook up with her at that airport. If she books at the $145 rate and something cheaper comes out then I can cancel and rebook without penalty? :confused3 We usually fly US Air but their rates are twice as much.

Yes, I was able to re-book with no penalty. The SW agent told me you could even change airports and times without any penalty fees. You just need to make sure the cost is lower for credit, if it isn't than you pay the price difference. The best thing is to watch the flights everyday to see if anything has come down.

Good luck...

Thanks very much! :thumbsup2
Does this mean that the folk who are using the "2 window method" are risking their already booked flights for nothing and they should be doing it this way (with no risk)?
Can I also assume that ,if you book an identical flight (with a lower price)then the balance goes into your SWA Credit File ?
I also wonder if i booked the original flights using Ticketless Travel Funds, will the expiry date of the new credit be the same as the original credit expiry.....or does the 1 year clock start again?
(sorry to bombard you with so many questions)
Edit: I just did a test run and when I enter my Conf# I see a check box for "change",then below I see "change selected trip" but I cannot see continue ?

Sometimes to get the Ding! fare, you have to use the "two window method." I just changed our Feb vacation flights from PVD to BDL (Hartford) because I could only book two of us on the same flight and there are 3 people flying! BDL isn't quite as convenient for us, but it's certainly better than Logan. The "Change Itinerary" button worked well, and I was done in a snap!

Thank you, thank you, thank you, DISBoards! I have been waiting for a DING! for our November return flight for several weeks. After a busy day, and I'm battling the annual change-of-seasons head cold, I visited the DISBoards tonight and saw the note at the top about the SW Systemwide Sale. Woo hoo, finally! Another $160 in our ticketless funds account for next year! I'm suddenly feeling much better. :cool1:

I just booked SW internet rate and am hoping for a Ding.

Could you please explain step-by-step what this "2 window" method is? I know Ding fares are only good for a few hours and I want to be ready to try to get it if/when it comes out.

Do I go on and click through the "ding" window? Then what?

I'm so scared I will mess up my existing reservation, but really want to save if possible.

Please excuse my lack of experience with this. Thanks! :sunny:

Congratulations to all those who saved!!!
I now have $470 saved with Southwest to use on our trip next April

I checked out the latest Ding (which was also a regular fare, I found out) and it had my flight, which was originally $92, for $61..
That's excellent considering fuel nowadays.

Anyway, I brought up the Ding window with my newly reserved price on the same flight.
I clicked, Purchase Airfare.
It then comes up to the next screen which prompts you to enter all your personal information (names, etc.)
But before you do that, go down to the next section where it says,
Apply Travel Funds.
There is a button right under that and to the right that says,
Apply Electronic Travel Funds.
Click that.
You'll see a screen that looks the same as the last, only this time it
prompts you to enter your Ticketless Travel Funds information

it says, Confirmation Number and Credit Card Holder name

Your Current Confirmation Number will be the number you need to use to acces your Travel Funds.
Once you cancel your reservation, that number is the number that needs to be referenced.
Place your current Confirmation number into that box,
and put the name that is listed on the credit card you used
to make that initial purchase.
Then go up to the section above which says,
Who is Traveling?
List everyone in your party who will be flying.
Get all the information you need on that page completed
Before Cancelling your flight
Enter your Purchaser Information, Contact Number, EMail, etc.
Make Sure That Page Is Totally Complete Before Cancelling!

Before Pressing Purchase, Bring Up Another Window

I usually go to the top of the page and Right Click one of the links to
Open Link In New Window.

Then I go to the Travel Center

You go down the page until you find the Cancel Air Reservation link;
Click it;
It then prompts you to enter your Confirmation number
for the flight you want to change/cancel which is the same number
that you have already entered into the Apply Electronic Travel Funds spot.

Place the name of the credit card holder into the next box
and then press Retrieve Flight Information button.

THe screen will then ask you if you're sure you want to cancel it,
Click Yes
That Flight is Now Cancelled and then
you immediately go back to your first screen and then press
I Want To Purchase This Air Travel.

Then you should be all booked.
The Time spent between cancelling the flight and rebooking at the lower fare
should be about five seconds, that's why you complete all the needed info
BEFORE cancelling.
If you're only using travel funds and you're anticipating a SW credit, then don't enter any credit card information in the Credit Card Payment area

I learned this here on the DIS and like I said,
I've saved $470 just on this trip alone.
I was very scared to do it, but I figured that I would just give it a chance.

Please, Do Not Blame Me if you get shut out of a flight.
So far I have not, but I think there were a few people here on the DIS
that were. You're really taking a chance when you do this,
but I figured it would be worth the shot.

I hope this helped,
Any other questions, just ask
Good Luck

I'd love to know the answer to this!!!

No, the expiration date is from the time of the Original Purchase.
Example: I originally booked this flight as soon as it came out on May 23. Even though I've had 3 Dings since then, the Expiration Date is still the original date of purchase, May 23.

THANK YOU very much!!!!!

I have printed this out and will stand by waiting *hoping* there is a Ding fare before my Jan flight.

Thanks again for being such a big help! :thumbsup2

Hi,

Just a note..the SW agent said to only click change reservation, not cancel. This way you do not risk your previous tickets/price until you confirm everything is all set.

Bonnie :wizard:

Thanks Bonnie!!!
Man, when I'm busy doing the whole DING Thing, I feel like I'm walking a tightrope! Those ten seconds between the time that you click Cancel to the time you click I want to purchase this air travel feel like forever!
I'm glad you posted that....I'll never press cancel again!

Am I the only one who hates SW doing this to us? If you book early and are unaware of Ding or any other savings, you are basically penalized for booking early if they drop fares. I hate thinking about how much I probably overpaid in the past for SW flights, not knowing about this system.

But do you not have to click on CANCEL to retrieve the ticketless travel funds (TTFs) to pay for the new flight (to rebook for a DING fare)?

Hi,

I clicked change air reservation and it showed me my credit before confirming the new flight/price change.

Hope this helps

Bonnie,

WHat new rates did you get in November! ?? I've been checking twice a day and not seen anything cheaper! The lowest I've seen is $109 for midweek IOW and what I really want is the $59 that they're offereing for OCtober right now. Did I miss a sale? WHat are your travel dates?

Thanks
Anne

We've also taken many trips with SW........but I'm not angry; oh, well, you know? But now that you know all about Ding! you will never pay full price again. Don't even think about previous trips with SW...Just think how much you'll save in the future
